Camping: The Ups and Downs |
|
How do you guys feel about camping? Do you do it yourself or do you hate it when you are continuously killed by a camper? I have no problem with campers. Sure it can be annyoing when they kill you but it is a useful tactic that I use myself from time to time.

I feel like we talked about this in the other thread with Camping on it.

It's funny how people feel about this in a particular game like MW2. In a war zone, you will have people who will sit at one position for a long period of time shooting at enemies. Essentially, camping. But when you do it on a video game, it is hated. Camping is just another way to play the game and there is a way to counter it, like everything else in the game or in real life.

I don't really mind campers, usually they're people who are actually pretty bad at the game so if you know they're there, you can stun/nade them and they won't know what to do.
It frustrates me when people say I'm camping if I'm looking out of the same window with my sniper for a while Campers don't look out windows. They hide themselves in corners. ------------------- ![]() quote vitadellajanlol

I do a bit of both, when I need to camp a choke-point because idiots feel like running into a crammed up hall, I will, when I need to move to another location to flank an enemy, I will. If you're running around dying by campers, stop running around in the open so much. Stick to cover when you move and be more alert of common "sit" spots.

I just hate it when some guy sits in one spot and is staring right down his iron sights waiting for someone to walk into it.
I usually play Domination and the good thing about that is that the only "camping" is essentially guarding the territory so you know there are going to be defenders. In teamdeath match though, you are just walking around and some guy is sitting in an unsuspecting corner, that is what ticks me off the most. ------------------- ![]()

I find that in MW2 camping is a lot less of an issue. I hated it on MW mainly cause Hardcore was my choice of mode, it probably will become my choice again when I reach that lvl (Ive only had the game for 2 days, first day was completing campaign on Hardened which BTW is a lot more challenging than the hardened in MW, feels like Hardened actually means Hardened this time round).
In MW2 the camping seems a lot more restricted, its a lot easier to find them and get them before they get you (Especially if you use Marathon), more so countering them is also easier due to the way the gameplay has changed. So far the only campers who have caused issues are ones which utilize staircases so that their guns are the only things out making it hard to kill em... (Especially since grenades cant reach the spot they are in). MW on the other hand made Camping way too hard to counter IMO, flashbangs and grenades where the only counters and whilst those are the obvious choices I like to keep my supply of grenades incase things go sour and I need them later, I therefore dont like randomly throwing them out to catch out campers... And even then when I could use my flashbangs the campers were usually in positions were even if you did get em with it they could still kill you as you enter due to their position. The only time I camp is when my health is real low and I am waiting for it to go back to normal, which is after almost every kill hehe. Im not sure if people consider that camping though...

I'm not bothered about it. I occasionally stay in the same area for a while when I feel like it. People who whinge about camping are far, far more annoying than those who actually do it.

Sometimes I camp if I'm looking after a killstreak and am one kill away from a Predator Missile or something. Apart from that, I don't do it because I don't think it's any fun. I'd rather run around experiencing what the game has to offer, getting caught up in all sorts of gun battles and crazy shenanagins, than quietly sitting in a corner behind a bin waiting for somebody to run past just to claim an easy kill. I paid £40 for this game, I want to have some fun with it.
I'm far from the greatest MW2 player, but I think consistant campers are amateurs who are fretting too much about their K/D ratio to actually try and enjoy the game.

re: Camping: The Ups and Downs |
quote KevinI agree with this most. It requires absolutely no skill whatsoever to sit in a corner with your sight trained on a single spot for minutes on end, especially if you're using a red-dotted FAMAS. One flick of a finger and whoever has walked into your sight is dead. A rather cowardly tactic. The good kind of camping is knowing good choke points and keeping them guarded; I mean come on, that's real world tactics here. Do you see real soldiers sitting in a corner for three hours? No. Do you see soldiers using windows to spot out hot zones, or remaining in cover to maintain suppression? Yes, you do. There is nothing wrong with keeping watch through a window. Sitting in an unsuspecting corner for half a match is what I see as a poor way to enjoy the game. ------------------- quote Ace Combat 4 Shattered SkiesThe Scapegoat of Neoseeker

TBH, I dont really camp cos I dont see the point as you have to sit there for ages for an enemy to walk by and whats the point in buying the game just to sit in a corner for most of the macth. I just go into battle and end up finishing top cos I got the most kills and sometimes the least deaths (On one macth I had 0 deaths). The M4A1 Carbine and the Vector are Immense.

When people just camp corridors, doorways or anything else, I normally don't get too frustrated, but when they're just sitting on a balcony for three quarters of the game staring down his sights, waiting for some unlucky player to wander into them before unloading his whole clip into him.
What I really hate is, when I'm playing Serach & Destory, or another type of "Attack/Defend" game mode, when we're defending. We're always accused of camping, I mean, what else are you going to do? Run around the map like a headless chicken, waiting for them to plant the bomb? If you're going to play a game like CoD, don't just crouch in a corner all game, actually play it. ------------------- What goes here? Is it a spider?

It annoys me when I get camped from behind, dont even get a chance to fight back, but thats me just being blind.
To be honest I dont mind if snipers camp cause they kinda have to but, when its someone sitting in a doorway with an LMG looking down iron sight, it annoys me. It also bugs me if I am on a decent kill streak and get killed by a camper. -------------------

I've pretty much figured out that it all depends on the circumstances of the game you are in. Sometimes, it actually calls for it. Other times, you better not camp at all or else you are wasting space and just being a target.
