Microsoft bans up to 1 million

quote
Anywhere between an estimated 600,000 and 1 million players who use Microsoft's Xbox Live gaming service will be cut off from the service because they have modified their game consoles or played games that were illegally downloaded from file-sharing sites, according to the company.

"All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live," Microsoft said in a statement Wednesday.

Good, people should not be illegally downloading anyways.

Some of my brothers friends that have flashed xboxes have had their accounts stopped to but only the ones that installed sky for xbox, some others are still fine. I wonder if this is just a coincidence or not? Has anyone heard anything similar?

well thats why you shouldnt mod your xbox. i love when people get mad at MS for banning them when they are stealing games. they are lucky MS is only banning people and not pursuing it further. if you want a game bad enough, buy/rent/or borrow from a friend.

re: Microsoft bans up to 1 million

At the end of the day, would you rather pay £3 or £40 for a game?

I'm not saying its the right thing to do, but at ridiculous prices for games no wonder people do it.

Mine was flashed, recently got rid of it and bought a PS3, which IMO is more value for money. £250 for a slim with one game.

When I got a 360, it cost me £299 for an Elite, £15 for the controller charger, £60 for wireless adapter, spent £60+ on headsets, £40 for XBL, thats £474.00 without even buying a game.

I know prices for consoles have gone down alot now, but £40 a game can be too much, don't mind paying it for a game I know will be good, i.e. MW2, but for games like Batman, Red Faction etc. the one's im unsure about, I wouldn't fork out the money for when it can be used better elsewhere like a piss up, or go towards my holiday fund.

re: Microsoft bans up to 1 million

The games have always been that price tho.

I remember paying out 40 odd quid for Zelda on the nes.......

If people want to do it they can, but I refuse to feel sorry for anyone who gets caught.

By the way I don't have enough money for a bottle of vodka tonight do you think its ok to just steal it?

At the end of the day if you can't afford games, don't get a console!

re: Microsoft bans up to 1 million

Are you telling me you've never downloaded a song or anything from limewire or a similar site? Its all the same, I know the value differs, its still piracy.

And you dont have to feel sorry for them, i wouldnt, if mine got banned, I wouldnt have cared, I would have kept it, bought a new one and use the flashed one to see if I liked the game before paying full whack for it. People who moan if they got banned must be inbreads, that would be like stealing a car, getting arrested and then complaining about it.

As for the vodka, if your that desperate for a drink, go to a club and wait for people to leave their drinks outside the smoking rooms and take them like the scroats do at some clubs lol

Oh yea, what I cant seem to understand is that Sainsburys and Morrisons charge roughly £26 for MW2 and the RRP is £45. Now you cant say they would take a £19 loss of each copy sold, so obviously the consumer is being ripped off.

re: Microsoft bans up to 1 million

Actually many stores take a loss for the sake of publicity it's why the £26 deal only lasts until Saturday. After that they will probably be one of the only stores selling the game for it's £55 RRP to recoup losses. The stores did it to try and capitalise on a market that was claimed by GAME, Gamestation and HMV. Even if Sainsbury's and other places didn't make money, those that went there may think about Sainsbury's before slapping a pre-order down at GAME next time.

If the consumer is being ripped off (and im not saying we arn't) then its been happening for years and years because game prices have not changed.

Makes me laugh when I see people saying "games are so expensive now a days"

No they arn't anymore expensive than they were 20 years ago, its just now a days gaming is more mainstream and in your face than it was years ago and people are most pressured to buy the new big thing out now.

Also i'm not saying that I've downloaded a song or a movie but I won't be complaining if I got caught, its my own bloody fault.

Anywhere where were we.......

Oh yeah stay out of my booze!

re: Microsoft bans up to 1 million

Ah didnt know it was a limited time offer. And I suppose getting you to the store to buy the game, people will buy other things whilst picking it up, like me

Still think £40 is a tad too much (especially if you have/are a kid/s wanting the game etc) but with the way the economy is atm, everything is too damn expensive.
