Leeds United Vs Scunthorpe United 20th August 2008 Paul Huntington,Man of the Match. 23,000 fans packed into Elland Road to see Leeds United play fellow promotion contenders Scunthorpe United in this mouthwatering fixture. But,the game turned out to produce a less exciting result than estimated.Andy Woolmer officiated the game,a less known referee, finally given his big chance. The 21,500 Leeds fans watched their team in the sun, with an opportunity to go 8 points clear of second place.Jake Crosbie was optimistic before the game, hoping to get the big games out of the way first.
Scunthorpe kicked off the game, attacking towards the kop.But Leeds started strongest, with Andy Robinson nearly breaking his duck for Leeds.A neat 1-2 between Fabian Delph and Robinson gave Robinson the chance, but Joe Murphy saved well. The next 20 minutes were for horrible viewing, with mainly long ball being played, but Crosbie changed the game by changing his tactics. This nearly paid off, with Bradley Johnson's effort just grazing the crossbar and ending up in the South Stand, much to the dismay of Crosbie and the Leeds fans.A goal nearly came courtesy of Luciano Becchio on 42 minutes, who fired over the bar from the right side of the area.Woolmer blew the whistle for half time, with Leeds having dominated the game and feeling hard done by.Surely the second half would show the fans a goal?
Half time saw 1 change,Becchio being replaced by Brett Ormerod, after Becchio not performing to the best of his ability.Leeds could have been 1-0 up on 62 minutes, with an Alan Sheehan free kick rattling the crossbar.United edged closer to an equaliser on 70 minutes, with Jermaine Beckford's attempt being tipped over the bar, much to the anger of Leeds fans.Leeds won a corner 11 minutes later, from Beckford's shot being deflected behind the net.The corner was swung in...and cleared out.The last opportunity of the game came from Scunthorpe on 83 minutes,Gary Hooper's finish not being successful as his run, firing the ball well wide of the goalmouth.Woolmer blew for the final whistle on 93 minutes, with neither side being able to produce a goal to please the fans.
quote Jake Crosbie
I'm disappointed we could only manage a draw today, but we dominated the game and that's the way football is sometimes.
Man of the Match-Paul Huntington Paul was a rock at the back today in defence for us,and the amount of shots they had proves this.

re: Marching on Together-A new chapter.Leeds Fulham Up.

Leeds United Vs Fulham 24th September 2008-Carling Cup 3rd Round Craven Cottage, the home of Leeds' opponents. Jake Crosbie's Leeds team travelled to London today hoping to cause an upset in the third round of the Carling Cup.Having already beaten Rochdale and Ipswich,Leeds had a decent chance at collecting another scalp.Roy Hodgson didn't choose to underestimate Leeds and picked a strong side for the tie.Premiership referee Andre Marriner was in charge of the game,in front of just under 13,000 fans for this mouthwatering cup game.
As expected,Fulham started brightest, with Andy Johnson being played on goal on 9 minutes.Johnson's shot was well saved by Casper Ankergren and applauded by fans of both clubs.Leeds followed this up by nearly scoring the first goal, but Alan Sheehans header towards the far post was headed off the line by Paul Konchesky, much to the disappointment of Leeds' loyal fans.Fulham reacted to this in the best way possible with Erik Nevland heading the ball past Ankergren to put Fulham 1 up with 18 minutes of the game gone.Fulham doubled their lead 2 minutes later with Johnson placing the ball through Ankergren's legs and into the net.Jake Crosbie changed his teams tactics to a more defensive approach after this setback.United nearly scored from the kick off with Jermaine Beckford's shot being tipped over the bar by Mark Schwarzer.Luciano Becchio also had an effort scrambled away from goal on 44 minutes, much to the dismay of Leeds' away following.Fulham went into half time 2-0 up,but could Crosbie change that?
Beckford nearly placed the ball into the goal 3 minutes after play resumed, but Schwarzer was their to stop his run.Leeds' best chance came on 54 minutes, courtesy of Keith Gillespie.Gillespie had a ball passed across the goal to him but fired wide after a brilliant opportunity.Fulham had a wonderful effort from Jimmy Bullard saved by Ankergren, who did well to get across his goal and palm the ball away at full stretch.Teenage wonder Fabian Delph had a 35 yard effort hit the crossbar on 63 minutes, bringing the Leeds fans to wonder if they'd ever score. When Andre Marriner blew for the final whistle, the Leeds team were applauded from their loyal fans after a good display which the result didn't exactly flatter Leeds' performance.
quote Jake Crosbie
I'm extremley pleased with the boys after that brilliant second half performance, and we were always going to be underdogs, but gave it a good shot.Well done to everyone.I'd like to concentrate on the league mainly and getting Leeds back to where they should be.
Man Of The Match- Everyone A real brilliant team effort and the result didn't flatter our performance.Well done to the lads.

Leeds United Vs Milwall 27th September 2008-Coca Cola League One A fan is taken away after crowd trouble stopped the game. Leeds-Milwall has always been seen as a violent fixture in the football calendar and today was no different.Leeds travelled to London for the second time in a week after their Carling Cup defeat to Fulham, but it was the action off the pitch that made the headlines. Before the game started, the Leeds team bus arrived under heavy police presence and it was expected something was going to kick off today.Crosbie named a strong side again, with Milwall being a dangerous team.Andy D'Urso was in charge of keeping things in order on the pitch in front of an attendance of just under 9000.
The game started with a hostile tension that could be smelt from a mile off,but only a minority were there for fighting.Frazer Richardson nearly put Leeds ahead 2 minutes in,with his strike hitting the crossbar and bouncing back outwards.Milwall's first chance came on 17 minutes with Lewis Grabban firing wide of Casper Ankergren's goal.Leeds took the lead on 24 minutes with Ben Parker firing into an empty net after David Forde dropped a corner from Andy Robinson.Just 2 minutes later,Milwall were awarded a penalty after Jonathan Douglas brought down Grabban in the area.On loan Tresor Kandol stepped up to take the penalty but fired wide, keeping the score at 1-0 in Leeds' favour. This gave United a fantastic chance to extend their lead, and Jermaine Beckford did on 34 minutes.Parker crossed the ball in and Beckford turned one defender and fired past Forde. This clearly infuriated Milwalls support and a section of them tried to get into the Leeds fans area, before the police intervened.Chairs were thrown by the 2 minorities of fans and this caused some to be arrested, early on in the game.D'Urso blew for half time much to the relief of Kenny Jackett and Leeds went into the dressing rooms with a 2 goal advantage.
The second half kicked off and emotions were still running high off the pitch.Milwall scored their first on 53 minutes, with Neil Harris beating Casper Ankergren and Leeds' defence. This sent Milwall fans into pure elation, and a attempt by a few fans to run onto the pitch proved to be unsuccesful with many being arrested yet again.Beckford nearly put Leeds 3-1 up on 67 minutes, but his ferocious shot was well saved by Forde.Brett Ormerod went close in the 88th minute, but his volley was overhit and ended up over the bar.Leeds ended the game deserved winners but the game was overshadowed by crowd violence.
quote Jake Crosbie
I'm elated with the win but feel anger towards the idiots that reacted to Milwalls fans throwing chairs and felt they had to retaliate.Brilliant win by the lads and i'm very proud of them.
Man Of The Match- Ben Parker Ben was fantastic for us today supplying a goal and assist, and filling in perfectly for Alan Sheehan.

Leeds United Vs Bristol Rovers 4th October 2008-Coca Cola League One The 22,000 Leeds Fans Saw Their Team Win Emphatically
Before today's game against Bristol Rovers,Jake Crosbie picked up his 2nd Manager of the month award,to a round of applause from his teams fans. The September award came after his side remained unbeaten for the month beating Milwall,Northampton and Leyton Orient and drawing with Scunthorpe.Just under 22,500 fans turned up for the game at Elland Road against Bristol, with Dean Whitestone in charge. The Leeds fans were expecting an easy victory, but could Crosbie deliver yet again? Leeds kicked off the game while a roaring rendition of Marching On Together was sang out by the Leeds faithful, determined to cheer their team to victory.United started off brightest, winning a corner in the 8th minute, which Andy Robinson whipped into the centre of the goalmouth.Luckily for Bristol,Rickie Lambert was there to clear it out of the box.Robinson won a free kick on the edge of the area in the 12th minute, but the opportunity was wasted and Robinson fired over the bar. This proved to pave the way for the direction of the game, with Luciano Becchio firing into an open net 2 minutes later to put Leeds 1-0 ahead. The 20,000 Leeds fans were happy already with their team closing in on another win,but this was a bit complacent, expecting to have won the game already.Becchio had another chance 13 minutes later, this time his header being caught by Steve Phillips.Bristol's first real chance came on the half hour mark, with Lambert's fizzing shot ending up with the fans behind the goal.Just on the stroke of half time,United were 2 up with Jonathan Douglas scoring a screamer from 25 yards.Fabian Delph saw Douglas free, laid it back to him and Douglas unleashed a scorching shot into the bottom right-hand corner. The crowd went wild, going into a flurry of Leeds songs.Leeds went into half time with a 2 goal advantage and the result looking like a Leeds win. Leeds came out into the second half with Keith Gillespie replacing Andy Robinson and almost making an immediate impact on the game.A free kick from Bradley Johnson met the head of Gillespie, whose effort hit the crossbar, disappointing the Leeds fans.Rovers reacted well to this, with Darryl Duffy forcing Casper Ankergren to pull off an impressive save in the 60th minute.Johnson had another free kick in the 69th minute, this one just missing the target.5 minutes later, Jermaine Beckford composed himself brilliantly,to put Leeds 3-0 up in the 74th minute.Beckford was played through by Becchio, took the ball past Phillips and held off 4 challenges to roll the ball into an empty net. This ensured the Leeds fans would be going home after watching a perfect win, with Crosbie's popularity increasing by the minute.
quote Jake Crosbie
I was really impressed by my team today and this wonderful victory indicates how well this team is going.I can assure the fans that there will be many more games like this over the rest of the season.
Man Of The Match- Luciano Becchio Luciano was brilliant for us today creating a goal and scoring another, showing the potential he has.
