Looks like BioWare has finally added free character transfers to The Old Republic, a service they plan to continue for as long as its needed to "to help maintain population balance." If you're wondering whether you qualify for a free transfer, here is the very brief list of requirements:
- A player’s account cannot be in a banned status.
- The character being transferred cannot be a guild master; they must either resign as master or demote themselves to a lower guild rank to be transferred. (Guild rankings and status will not be transferred.)
Well, that was easy. Unfortunately, the second restriction does mean that guilds can't be transferred "as a whole" to a new server. Instead, you'll need to have everyone switch manually and then reform wherever your new home is. If you had a guild bank, contact Customer Service once you've found a new server, and they should (in theory) restore it.
How does one transfer, then? All you need to do is log into your account, then go to "My Account" where Character Transfers can be found in the left menu. From there, you can check your characters to see who is eligible for a transfer. Note that the process isn't actually immediately, and you may need to wait up to three hours for the transfer to take effect, during which time you will not be able to access any to-be-transferred toons.
