Looking for Weapon Opinion About... |
|
Murcury Winged Spear. Reluctantly I have been using the winged spear for my first play thorugh and it is ok, but it is still no halberd. I did some reading about the different upgrades and it appears the end result on highest damage per strike is the Murcury version. After upgrading, I felt a twinge of pain in my chest as I saw my damage dropped even though it added poison damage. At Murcury Winged Spear +1 it is E/D/-/- 96+9 physical damage with 120 poison damage.
Looking for general comments and thoughts about the Murcury line. (The one thing I am not looking for is "Why are you using that when 'X' is OMGWTFPWNED better) Thanks for your thoughts.

All weapons that that ad effects like poison, HP regen, MP regen always have lower damage than other equal weapon.
You must have misunderstood something if you thought adding poison would add direct damage. Mercury weapons might poison your target and slowly drain it of HP for a while. Good for a slow and methodical approach and to make it harder for opponents to heal properly. Can be a saviour at certain situations but it has limited general use imo. General on weapons: What's the best weapon for you depends ENTIRELY on your build and playing stile. Highly specialised characters do well with upgrades like Crushing (str), Sharp, Tearing & Sticky (dex), Moon & Crescent (magic), Blessed (faith). More balanced character do well with Quality and the basic upgrades (str & dex). A lot of the unique weapons that can be found or made can have a more varied mix of what damage they do and what stats they respond to. Many is just awesome for some players while completely useless for others. Its all about your build. Some people work best with the slower but high damage dealing big weapons while others do better with fast ones. Some like strong protective armour others like to roll freely. Only people who invest enormously in endurance can do both and that generally come at a the expense in damage dealing since endurance ads no damage to any weapon. If you tell me your build and preferences I can recommend you something. ------------------- Previously known as Master Ffamran.

quote DameronMaybe this confused you too? It doesn't actually deal 120 damage "poison type" or anything. That number is the probability your weapon has to inflict poison onto the enemy. When it does, [Poison Damage] / 60 = damage per second.

Yes it did confuse me. I though the 120 poison was added per strike ontop of the base damage it already did. With that in mind, I never would have went Murcury, I most likely would have went Fatal. It is what it is however and that is the wonderful thing about this game, there is no right or wrong way to finish the game. What I will most likely do is save it in my inventory for the right instances and begin upgrading another weapon. I can see the chance to poison a boss or other mob with tons of hp being invaluable to a pure melee character.
I appreciate you offering to recomend weapons for my build but I will pass. The weapon I would have really liked to use was the guillotine axe... but like an idiot I killed Miralda in WT instead of BT. Maybe next time around.

No kidding? The method to get PBT is help someone kill a boss, die again in the world you want PBT with and then help kill another boss right? Approx how many times does it take to get PBT?Thanks for everyone's help.

4-7 times. Just use Ephemereal Eyes instead of Blue Phantoming a boss. You should be able to get at least 30 eyes a run through so it should be no big deal to waste a few.

Question regarding this topic. I've been tinkering around with the upgrades and came across something that was confusing.
After upgrading to a level 3 weapon, I went to upgrade to level 4 and was presented with two options, the first was the streight up level four, the second was something called a 'quality' weapon. I compared the two and they had identical weight, durability, and over all were the same except for their damage, the level 4 did more damage than the quality. So my question is, why is it more expensive and takes more souls to forge a quality weapon when its not as good? Is there some other stat or effect I'm not aware of that makes it worth doing or something?

Good question RGZ Archer!!
Quality is a different branch or modifiers, at first when you get across all the different branch the base weapon will always be more stronger. Now when you get your Quality to +5 and your base weapon +10 still the base weapon will have more base damage. The different comes with the bonuses, and your build, if you have even souls points in both Str and Dex with the bonuses the Quality give you, you will do more damage than using your +10 weapon. ------------------- P/D: 2492 8428 2506

Base weapon are good until +3. After that if you don't know what build you going for leave it at that until you decided.
