Installing Red Alert 2 on Windows XP with SP2

Hi,

I'm trying to install Red Alert 2 on a Windows XP with SP2 but the setup crashes. I know RA2 is on the list of programs that "behave differently" on SP2 but couldn't find any suggestion.

Anubody can help?

Has anyone actually figured a way of fixing this yet, i have been playing c&c generals lately but want to go back on RA2, as it is just as brilliant.

I was trying to install Red Alert 2 on my new PC, a self build 3 Grand job ;-) So i nomally know what im doing.

I tried all the forums and the Westwood FAQ's etc as you normally would, but i couldn't find anything to fix my problem. I couldn't get past the setup.exe file to start the installation.
I tried compatibility modes for win 98,2000,NT,and 95. NT said "CD not found" insert correct CD, the rest of the modes gave a generic error message.

So i started my pc in safe mode at 640 x 480 resolution trying to get down to a minimum spec of drivers and software loaded thinking there was a conflict, the setup.exe file on the CD gave the following message "resolution not compatible". So thinking it was a long shot i booted the pc up as normal and set the resolution to a non-standard for my pc, which usually runs at 1600 x 1200.

I set it at 1024 x 768. And the setup.exe file worked.
Im now playing the game !! It took four hours to sort it out and the box says the game is XP compatible......hmmm maybe not.

Keep trying and you will probably get it working, just dont give up.

A word of warning, i did play around with the registry and put a wordpad value in as well (which i found in this forum)as well the rest so it may have been a combination of the two. I did find that the licencse document on the CD wouldnt open until i did the registry hack. You wouldnt find this if you had microsoft office or microsoft word installed on your pc.

A word of warning, DO NOT MESS WITH YOUR REGISTRY UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING !!!
If you dont know how to edit the registry and have run out of ideas, just take the game back to the store and buy Generals, it has no installation problems that i have found under XP lol

Just wondering, did you, Jack11111111111, ever get the game workng proper yet, i aint to hot with pc's and would rather not mess with the registry if i co9uld avoid especially if it aint gonna work anyway

Ok then Jack111111111111, have just got a load of new games will have to play them instead lol, and wait the the new C&C Tiberian Twilight (If the rumours are true that is) to come out instead, even if its gonna be a while
