I don't like the Bombard Towers. I'm more of a quick attacker than a Powerhouse. So the Bombard Towers are too easily evaded. However I agree that I like the LongBowMan. They are great for taking out Villagers, which leads to your enemies armies fall.

i think that to many people are ignoring the first half of the game... that is unless u continue to play maps with easily defended choke points.

I think that the game is designed to be balanced but the most powerful races occur when combined with others. I definitely agree that britons when combined with persians is very powerful.

1v1 is tedious as some races are simply stronger vs particular other races.

Also note- the cost of an army. Sometimes the weakness of an amy is its cost. For example halberders(?) cost food and wood which are both rewneable resources compared to an elephant which costs massive amounts and gold too.

Back when I used to play this game (will have to reload it on my new computer) I was always a fan of attacking in the castle age. In multiplayer this meant Vikings and Franks were my preferred Civs

I could usually get to Castle at about 16.45 if I remember correctly (using Vikes), with about 28 villagers and a good starting economy and forward base.

I also enjoyed using the Franks cheap castles to support mine or my team mates attacks. Nothing more pleasing than being able to build a castle right by somebodies TC on 22 mins to cover the Rams going in.

In the Imperial age though Champions were my fave, with the Champion flood being my favourite tactic. Nothing says lovin like 60 Champions + 10 pike charging into your enemies town. Loads more quicker and harder to stop than using siege weapons with Archer and cavalry support.

In this age, Goths were my favourite. Obviously not a great tech tree (the wooden fences were a thorn in my side), but boy could you have a lot of Champions ready to go in with, especially if you were left alone in the pocket of a 3v3 game.

Overall, my favourite unique unit was the Huskarl, looked great and annoyed the hell out of my gaming m8's who favoured Brits, Chinese and Mongs The Bezerker was also employed sometimes, send in 20 with the first wave of the flood then withdraw them to safety to recover.

Favoured 2v2 combo's using random maps was Vikings and Mongs. 3v3 it was Vikings, Mongs and maybe Persians or Chinese.

Don't think I ever saw gamers in our online group (100+ strong) using Teutons though.

I like the Mayans because I like doing hit and run tactics, I group the plummed archers and eagle warriors together and attack there fort and run before they even notice it was there.

What's all this about people saying Teuts are best? Mainly talking about some idiot at the beginning of this topic who insulted all the other civ's here... Teutonic Knights = siege? = good? Sure, they can hurt... if they can get to you. Hit-and-run!

My favorite civ would have to be Britons, no matter what I'm playing. Their range is so long that they can cancel out pretty much all their foils, except fully-upgraded Korean Siege Onagers. and teamed up with Saracens, they do 2 damage to buildings... You might think it's weak, but try having an army of 100+ longbowmen attacking... not too bad!

Second favorite civ would be Chinese. Those arrows are amazing, and the damage adds up very quickly. Chu Ko Nus + Scorpions = amazing damage. Then have a few camel meatwalls in front... Yeah, that's pretty good.

Third would have to be Huns. Sure, they lack some technology. Okay, a lot of technology. But on average, I can have the enemy's base locked up pretty tight within 15 minutes on a random-map game. The key is to use archers right away, till castle age, because any skilled players will "counter" your civ with spearmen.

Personally, I don't think Persians are so great. "Unstoppable force" not really... Send an army of Elephants into a skilled player's base and he'll laugh as his bombard towers and halberdiers knock down the Dumbos row by row.

My favorite civilization is the Teutons. My nickname for the Teutons is the Tutus. Why this is my purrfect civilization is because they have a really good technology which makes the Castle have +2 range making it 8+5 range and double the garrisoning in all towers including Bombards. I use 10 Hand Cannoneers inside the Bombard Towers so it can fire 3x as much cannons. I did that once. I nearly destroyed the Green team when I used 4 villagers to build a Town Center. I was attacked by a lot of Petards and I had to use the 'slower than hell' Elite Teutonic Knights to kill the Petards. I used my villagers to build 3 Bombars Towers while creating 30 Hand Cannoneers at the same time. I killed all the Petards and used the Trebuchets to destroy everything else (I had an army of 3 'slower than hell' Elite Teutonic Knights and 2 Trebuchets with 4 villagers at the start). After I build my defenses, I am merely impossible to defeat!

These are the teams I like. And I'll explain, too.

Britons- their Longbowman have a hell of a range of 6+6 total. I like them because I more like archers and siege weapons (not like I have an obsession of them) and I build a lot of Longbowmen and other archers.

Byzantines- I like the Byzantines (hey, Ispelled it correctly, too. Yahoo!) because I like to be really defensive and when I get attacked (usually constantly) I hardly get hurt because of the defenses. It sucks though that the gates don't have the same effect as the Stone and Fortified Walls. Then it would be merely impossible for a colossal force to penetrate it! Yay!

Koreans- Their unique technology makes my siege weapons +2 and, if all techs done correctly, the Oganer and Siege Oganer will have 8+4 range. The unique tech, the Team Bonus: and the regular tech at the university add up to 8+4 range. Their Turtle Ships are really good, but they fire and wait a 5-second delay which other ships (mostly galleys) wait a 1 1/2 delay for another shot

The civilization that SUCKS the most is the Goths because they have absolutely do damn defense at all. Only Palisades. Their Huskarls are kinda good nut that's it. They suck.

Yeah, realistically, the best defense is a good offense, but people don't play realistically online, eh?

An army of Huskarls will do nothing to an army of mangonels, scorpions, and cannons.
