Ok expanding on what I said here are my choices for units I would use:


Archers, why? Because you can do hit and run tactic.

Archers are particularly useful against melee fighters such as swordsmen and all that.

Also, if you place them ontop of hills they will get a bonus to damage (dunno if that works with aok, worked with aoe 1).

Place them ontop of hills, this will prove useful against melee fighters and cavalry, although the cavalry will get to you faster, you will still have enough time to kill them, especially if you have alot of them.

This would not work so well against cavalry archers or conquistadors or anything like that.

Also beware of Catapualts, as they can easily take down your archers, if you have your archers bunched together, usually you would have your archers bunched together if you were to do a hit and run tactic, so you will not have any archers left behind cos they are too slow or run into a tree or something stupid like that :-p

Elite Jannisary are pretty nice aswell, I usually use these instead of Archers, although these could classify as Archers, but they use gunpowder

Elite Conquistadors are like Jannisaries, only much stronger and faster cos they are on horses.

I definately choose these when playing single player or multiplayer.

Conquistador are the best they could take unit from afar dealing big damage if hit

If your civilisation is Aztecs then the ultimate unit would be a champion as their attack can reach 21 with full upgrades.

But otherwise Paladins or Mamelukes.

If I am able to mass 200 units, I would want to send in 200 hand-canoneers, they got a good range, and good power, and 200 of them would be awesome.

But, if my units wouldnt get attacked, I would send in 200 treubechs.

Yeah, massing one unit is a usualy beaten strategy.

When I mass in serious games, I mass elite Eagle Warriors, Hand Canooners, and probably 10 treubechs.
Weak combo, but since no one is online anymore, it works well against computer opponents, but is pathetcly beaten by scorpions and heavy scorpions.

I like sending in masses of Hand Cannoneers followed by Arablasts. The Hand Cannoneers deal with infantry, and the Arablasts pick off other archers and Horsemen.

Paladin + Elite Toutonic Knight + Halberdier + Hand Cannoner

Paladin Will Crush Heavy Infantry and cover Handcannoner

Elite Teutonic Knight Will Halp Paladin Stop The Halberdier Movement and Support to kill Heavy Invantry

Halberdier Marching along with Elite Teutonic Knight to preotect Paladin n' Elite Teutonic Knight from Heavy Cavalry , Light Cavalry , Elite Warelephant .

Hand Cannoner will support Elite Teutonic Knight movement from Ranged Invantry .
