Best mass unit

if you had to say, what do you think is the best mass unit to go with, if it is a unique (im sure it is) say what civ too for newbs. I know it is a bad strategy for massing one unit but i guess im just trying to bring back some life to this forum (if you have not noticed, your uhhh, special, err

Probably horsemen. Like conquestadors or something. Its good that you can zip along to the other side of the map if you're under attack.

If you combine two mass units you should do calvary massed with war elephants cuz those suckers are hard to take down fastly and they do wonders when it comes to razing fortifications.

You would need more halberdiers than you would need paladins or war elephants. 40 fully upgraded halberdiers lose to 40 fully upgraded paladins.
The best massed unit would truely depend on what you're facing. If you're facing a mass of paladins, mamelukes would be best, if you're facing archers, huskarls or skirmishers or paladins would rip through them...if you're facing infantry, a mass of archers would kill them. It really depends.
Someone earlier mentioned mangudai...if I had to choose, I'd definitely say elite mangudai. They just rock.

I just want to compliment lexxer on the best post I've ever seen of his yet. Very inciteful, thinking the whole situation through. Good Job! Good Job! Anyway, if the halberdiers came against my paladins and elephants I'd let the calvary die and send in my ranged bowman or gunman.
