That is true RVD1000 and he definitely should have got a penalty, but in this case it would appear to be a genuine mistake. The amount of fuel missing from his car would only have given him 1 tenth of a second of advantage around the lap, his time would likely still have been fast enough for pole.

Either way, break the rules get a penalty, not rocket science.

If he has less than the regulated amount of fuel that everybody else has to carry during qualifying then he gained an advantage and there's no way his time can be counted. Maybe a little harsh to put him all the way at the back but at the end of the day it's his own(team's) fault for not fueling correctly. Stops people from trying to gain an unfair advantage if they know the punishment is severe.

He was half a second quicker than everybody else though. He'd have been pole even if he had 1 laps worth of fuel more as a solitary laps worth of fuel isn't going to slow him down by half a second.

I think most people are annoyed with the punishment. It's ridiculous. Put to the back of the grid for half a laps fuel light. Whereas incidents like Schumacher's dangerous driving and almost putting Rubens in the wall at 200mph only get 10 places? No consistency at all. Not the first time Lewis has been on the end of an FIA punishment though, everyone knew it was coming.

Anyway, I've heard the FIA like them. That team likes Schumacher. Couldn't possibly punish him for something reckless. He's a legend apparently.
