My mate is a gym instructor and he always does about 10-15 minutes of cardio before doing weights.

ahh i see

i do 20 mins on cycle machine
then run for between 5-10 mins
then do different weight machines (2 body parts a day) for about 45-50 mins
then stepper machine for like 5 mins max

about 1 hour 30 a day, mon tues weds and friday each week
is that a good workout?

i find the running, cycling and leg workouts easier as i used to run and play football like a madman
its the upperbody work that gets me

If you're doing a proper cardio session you should be doing it after weights

but you can do a 10-15 light warm up of cardio

at least some people like to do that

i personally don't

I started trying to get back to a good level of fitness on Monday so I went out a run. Haven't been back out since then because my hamstring is really sore. It's not that it needs stretched as it doesn't feel tight but I didn't feel any sudden pain or that while I was out running so I don't think I've pulled it. Anyone?

yea but on the bike i dont push myself its like the tail end of warming up kinda thing, like maybe for 10 mins out of they 20 i try and the other 10 is a bit light cycling
and then the running is varied aswell

If you do intense cardio, do it on a different day or after. If you're just warming up do it before (obviously). If you do intense cardio before doing weights, your glycogen stores will be so minimal your muscles won't perform anywhere near how they would normally. Doing weights before will use a fair bit of your energy stores but will allow you to still do effective cardio afterwards, if you do it this way you have to stretch and warm up before whereas if you do it other way you don't have to stretch before, only after.

Yeah I'm going to try that. I do need to be less forceful on my legs because when I go out running, I like to go quite hard and get a few niggles if I do it often. Cheers.

Lost nearly a kilogram since Wednesday.

Possibly more cos when I weighed myself properly on Wednesday I removed my iPod/keys/gym card/earphones from my pockets, didn't today.
