Huge Projects for work/school/uni

I hate them, truly hate them. In primary school, our year 6 teacher made us do a 60 page project on a subject of our choice to "prepare us for secondary school"

Then I had quite a few very big courseworks to do in Geography at GCSE and A Level.

I always don't put in as much effort as I could, and end up getting an alright mark.

Anyway, I've got a dissertation to do now. It has to be handed in on March 26th, and I'm struggling with it. I know I'll reach a point where everything slots into place and I can suddenly just do it all, but I'm not there yet.

I had trouble even deciding what to do it on, but eventually I settled on looking at the area of Stratford in London, which is where the majority of the Olympic games will be held in 2012.

Huge amounts of money are going into this area (which is quite a deprived area of London), and the general aim of my project is to discover whether the regeneration of this area will be a success or not.

There's plenty of attempts to attract wealthy people to the area, and part of my project will be to see what social issues arise from "gentrification" of a poorer area of a big city.

I'd appreciate ANY pointers in how I actually go about doing this, no matter the extent of your knowledge or experience with this kind of thing.

Anyone else have to do anything like this?

If and when I go back to uni to do my final year, the entire second semester is wholly a project where you make a game. No modules - just a couple of hours of weekly contact time.

Yeah I'm the same with presentations, I've never liked them. Apparently this one is only in front of a few lecturers though, no other students, so they can get a serious idea of your dissertation proposal.

Dunno how I'm gonna fare yet but I think I'll be alright doing it in front of just lecturers.

I have 3 Advanced Higher Science Investigations to finish and write up before the easter holidays these involve around 10 hours of experimental work 10 hours of reasearch, then loads of planning time and more reasearh work out of school then type up around 2,500 report for each, 2,500 isn't actually the word count as there are loads of exemptions meaning they are actually about 5,000!

I thought last year of high school was supposed to be stress free and easy

I've done about 35 pages of Business coursework so far this year. Maybe even more, but yeah. That wasn't even intended to be that long.

What subject you on Rob? I did gentrification 2nd year of Uni, about a place called Bijlmermeer in Amsterdam, it was more redevelopment side of things, and stoppign spiral of decline than gentrification, if you'd like pm me your email address and I'l forward you it. It got 65%, might be worth a read. I mainly worked on interview of people who lived in and around the area, aswell as looking at cost etc. Also maybe try comparing it to the Ajax Arena development (or any other similar kinda thing) as thats along very similar lines, massive stadium, shopping etc built in an run down area.
My Diss is in for the 24th Feb, I'm spending 10 hours a day on it, its a ridic amount of work. Be nice to have a completed bit of high quality (hopefully) work at the end of it though.

Or are you working that much because your deadline is so near and you left it late? My deadline is a month later than yours.

Doing Media coursework and i did it on how video games are targeted at the youth and i've got to make a trailer for my practical.
