Red Line Fix for Windows XP

Does anyone have a fix for RLR running in a Windows XP platform?

re: Red Line Fix for Windows XP

This depends on the video driver you're using.
Under the Redline Racer folder, you'll see the main Exe's:
rlr_3dfx.exe, rlr_D3d.exe, rlr_i740.exe & selector.exe.
If you are Display Driver supports D3D only,
then right click on the 'rlr_D3d.exe'.
Next, click on the tab 'Compatability'.
Choose'Run this program in a compatability mode for:'.
Choose 'Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)'.
Choose 'Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution'.
Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'.
Create a shortcut to 'rlr_D3d.exe' and place on the desktop.
Double-click this shortcut to run the game.
You may have to put the RLR CD into a different CD-Rom driver in order to hear the music.
The game should run fine.
Do not use the shortcut the Install puts on the desktop.
This will put the game into a deadly cycle of flipping between resolutions. Use the created shortcut.

re: Red Line Fix for Windows XP

I tried this with my 1998 version of Redline Racer that came with my intel graphics card after I've updated to Windows XP but I get back the message: "rlr_i740.exe is not a valid Win32 application."

re: Red Line Fix for Windows XP

Redline races cannot run with DX8.1. You have to run with Win98 only

re: Red Line Fix for Windows XP

The reason you don't have the other exe files is because it is the oem version, I also have the oem version and get the same error that the file is not a valid win32 exe, this is NOT a directx problem it is because windows98 has backward compatibility for oldschool win95 exe's, the exe needs to be re written, thats all.

I am not that leet to decompile make winxp compatible and recompile (<=hint) the exe to fix the problem

re: Red Line Fix for Windows XP

after double clicking the exe file, press the windows key button,it will take u out of the program and open the start menu, then switch to redline racer back.

this will sure to work, but the program will also depend on ur graphics card and the graphics card driver

http://www.criteriongames.com/mailbag/supporting/redline_xp_patch.txt

those are instructions from the company on installation with XP, however, the linked files are no longer available.

If anybody has the files, please post them or direct others to a location were said files may be obtained. I have been looking for them for some time.

Thank you.

its down a bit on this page

unfortunatly, it doesnt work for my PC.

I just sent them an E-mail, asking them for a fix.

I say that everyone starts e-mailing them at mailbag@criteriongames.com

and if enough people ask, they will fix it! c'mon everyone, lets get this grand game working!

re: Red Line Fix for Windows XP

Hi

There is an article at Criteriongames/Contact Us/Mailbag concerning this problem. There you can download needed files and txt file describing how to make it work(third post):
http://www.criteriongames.com/contactus/mailbag/10_03_2006/

or if mentioned article doesn't exist anymore you can download files and instructions here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/n907t7

However it didn't work for me. The only difference is that I now end up with black screen after the Ubisoft logo ends.

Give it a try and please post if anyone finds out anything new.

re: Red Line Fix for Windows XP

didn't worked for me too
i can hear the ubi and criterion sfx, but i only see black screen. when they finish, a windows message box appears with title "Redline Racer". it says "...Failed" and it has an ok button. nothing else.
running the game with the patched or the win95 original exe is the same, and any combinations of the compatibility tab are useless.

sorry for my bad english
