While Platinum Games is busy pushing out Metal Gear Rising and a Bayonetta sequel, Platinum director Atsushi Inaba recently did an interview with Edge magazine regarding his thoughts on Bayonetta, including some regrets he still carries. During that interview, Inaba confessed that he considers the PS3 version of Bayonetta the studio's biggest failure, namely due to mishandling by publisher SEGA.

In his interview, Inaba explained that the PS3 version was delegated to an in-house team at SEGA. The results were less than desirable, what with all the framerate and control issues that the Xbox 360 version didn't suffer from. Despite receiving high scores from critics, the PS3 version left many players plenty unhappy. Says Inaba:

“The biggest failure for Platinum so far, the one that really sticks in my mind, is that port. At the time we didn’t really know how to develop on PS3 all that well, and whether we could have done it… is irrelevant: we made the decision that we couldn’t. But looking back on the result, and especially what ended up being released to users, I regard that as our biggest failure.”

Platinum learned their lesson from the experience, and when it came to Vanquish, the developer kept everything in-house.

Bayonetta retains its followers, of course, who were no doubt pleased to learn the witch would be getting her own sequel. Reactions to Bayonetta 2 being a Wii U exclusive, however, haven't been all that positive.
