As swk was saying though if someone advises a new player to drop Morrigan from their party, they will be screwed if they reach the end and they need that option for the end, which is pretty lame. It's best to just leave her in camp if you dislike her.

First playthrough, I loved Morrigan! SHE LEAVES. I couldn't beat the Archdemon without her!

That's why I say: Invest in Wynn. She, at least, has the character enough to stay with you in the end.

If you get Wynne early by doing Broken Circle first, then she can be everything Morrigan can in terms of the classic robe and staff mage. I like Wynne better overall b/c her special upgrade is willpower instead of magic, which is really more important for healing imo.

Now, if you get her later...well, overall the creation tree isn't as good as primal and entropy, but it still has a lot of neat things. Heroic offense, the glyph spells, and of course healing and regen are good to have. In fact, these are perfect for an arcane warrior.

If you don't do broken circle first, then turn Wynne into an arcane warrior ASAP. She'll be a better tank than any warrior. Heroic offense will help her hit stuff with a blade. Also, she'll have staying power by using regen, heal, rock armor and life ward. While earthquake, glyph of paralysis and glyph of repulsion will take care of any hate loss issues.

Wynne's true strength over Morrigcan is that she gets TWO good specializations. Morrigan is stuck with shapeshifter...

Keep Morrigan whatever you do don't lose her from your party, you need her later.

I've beat the game several times without the aid of Morrigan. Wynne is a much better choice if you're a Warrior and in certain situations as a Rogue. If you're a mage, though, I doubt either of them will be of use.

Basically though, if you have Wynne on your team you're practically invincible on Normal, if you give her the right abilities and tactics. Plus, set her on Passive so she never gets the aggro and so can use Blood Magic to heal the rest of the party should she run out of mana and potions.

Morrigan's good for crowd controlling, but that's about it I found from my experience. I usually don't even put her in my party, right from the get-go.

As a Warrior (spec'd in Berserker and Champion), my party was usually Alistair (Templar, Berserker), Shale or Leliana (Bard, Ranger), and Wynne (Spirit Healer, Blood Mage). Basically we all just ran in there, destroyed everyone, while being constantly healed by Wynne if we needed it. I also maxed out her Herbalism so should she be in a situation where she can't help us we'd always have some potions. Although if you're a Warrior it'd be pretty smart to have both Morrigan and Wynne in your party I suppose.

As a Rogue (spec'd in Duelist and Assassin), I usually went with Alistair (Templar, Berserker), Oghren (Berserker, Champion) and Wynne (Spirit Healer, Blood Mage). Alistair and Oghren dual-ganked using my Warrior's tactics while Wynne healed them, as well as having an abundance of potions. I circled around and used my devastating Rogue abilities and backstabbing the shit out of everyone. Worked very well, only died about twice on Normal.

Haven't made a decent mage yet though. I always do the Circle of Magi first though for Wynne and those stat bonuses. Plus, it's the easiest.

Beginners often believe that Morrigan is the stronger mage due to the spells she starts with, but Wynne is simply more powerful, whether as a healer or a DPS/CCer.

Overall, an adequately geared level 24 Wynne under the effects of Aneirin's Token-enhanced Vessel of the Spirit buff, Stone Aura, Spell Wisp and Spell Might should have an absolutely unparalleled total of 210-220 spellpower.

Compare that to Morrigan under the same circumstances (minus VotS) who will have a measly 170-180 spellpower and you can clearly see that Wynne rocks Morrigan's socks off.

Morrigan is still cooler though.

I'll stick with Wynne. I normaly do the circle first straight out of Loathering. So I wind up getting her almost as soon as I get Morrigan. Plus Wynne has a larger mana pool and mor spells to start anyways. And its easy as sin to build her into combat mage from there.

As for Morrigan, everyone keeps saying that her shapechange ability sucks. I gotta disagree there. Her insect swarmis insanely cool along with her tainted animal forms. In her insect swarm form she's damn near impossible to hit. And her tainted bear form will drop most heavy hitters. Plus when she transforms back to her human form, she regains a little health.
