Making money |
|
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how to make money. I see a lot of stuff in shops I want, but can't afford them, and almost always end up missing them permanently because I can't afford them.

Try doing the various odd jobs around, like the Chanter's board in Denerim and Redcliff as well as the Black-something irregulars. These tend to pay pretty well.
Also, try doing the Dalish elves quest. There is a point in the ruin where you have an opportunity to find a stash of almost 20 sovereigns. -------------------

But how would I go about getting the Staff of the Magister Lord (128 G, 88 S), for example?

quote KrantosNature of the beast is the name of the quest. You also get a rather nice bow from the Dragon's loot. The chanter's board quests do indeed give a good amount of cash in the early levels. It's kind of like Mass Effect in that once you get to a high enough level, cash from enemies racks up pretty quickly. quote swk3000Kill a shitload of enemies and hope the shop item generator brings up that item. ------------------- Behold!

Another question: Can I come back to the Circle later and grab the staff when I get the money?

re: Making money |
quote Kommando367Unique items are not generated. They're always found in the same shops and they never go away. SO... quote swk3000Yes. Personally, I like the fact that money is so hard to come by. There are too many games where money just becomes moot because you get so much of it. Mass Effect and Oblivion are good examples. I used to hate it in Mass Effect when I'd have an entire inventory full of loot and yet already be at max capacity for money. Also, I've noticed that higher level equipment does not make or break you. I just shelled out nearly 100 sovereigns to outfit my entire party with tier 7 equipment and while it does help, it certainly doesn't take away the challenge. I like that because it means you don't have to make equipment decisions based solely on item stats. It makes it easier to RP. -------------------

There are a bunch of shady type quests to do in Denerim swk, it's a good place to pick up money. Also, hook up with the mages collective (you can find a representative in denerim market, and in the lake town by the mages tower) and do their side quests too for quick and easy cash.

In the Dust Town section of Orzammar, there is a dwarf named Rogek. The quest he gives you can net a total of 40 gold with high enough Coercion (I had expert).

i just pick up every thing single thing i can find, then after each mission i go to camp, equip all my members with the best stuff, and then sell everything else. i've never been short on money... it helps if you buy all the back backs. before i even knew they had back packs for sale it took my 3 runs to collect everything out of the ruins from the dalish quest. but now my pack can hold 110, so i think i should be good... oh and there is another back pack i just remembered i can buy in denirem... i'll be sure to pick that up before hand this time.

I recommend taking up all the Chanter's Board quests and collecting all items, especially scrolls, while on quests. Many times you can also do double duty/betrayal on quests. ie one quest has you going around to warn blood mage relatives that their houses will soon be targeted, the next has you finding the blood mages and killing them all.
