Looks to be a very strong, low power, low profile chip. Could really make AMD gain huge ground in chips for netbooks, laptops, tablets, low-profile desktops and maybe even smartphones, providing the price is low enough for PC manufacturers to add them to their products, providing those benchmarks haven't been made to look like AMD is taking a lead. Could even maybe threaten the i3.

I know it isn't really on topic, but have AMD said anything about their second-gen Bulldozer/Piledriver?

in a way, its a good thing that AMD is diverting more attention to the mobile sector, while leaving intel with the powerful stuff. of course, it might be economically bad, considering it makes each company more monopolistic in their areas, but i think we can expect to see much better products, at least on AMDs end in the mobile market.

well its not surprising, considering AMD is focusing more on the mobile market, while intel sticks to the workhorses.

i wouldnt exactly call it competition. after the first set of APUs that were a major disappointment, AMD said they were shifting focus to the mobile market, so that essentially means intel dominates the desktop and server markets.

sure, theres more competition in the mobile area, but thats still just one out of three major areas. in any case, it is a good thing for the mobile market.

TBH I remember when AMD were market leaders instead of Intel back in the late 90s. The first PC I had was an AMD.

AMD still provide a very strong alternative to Intel Xeon's though, and if you have a server that really needs it, AMD have something like 20 core server CPUs.

Having said that, perhaps when it's time to upgrade my desktop, it will probably be an Intel CPU in it, unless AMD pull off an amazing desktop CPU.

With APUs though, because they have everything on one chip, and have less power requirements than running a separate, equivalent quad core CPU and the equivalent GPU, I can see it definately taking a foothold on laptops, netbooks, tablets and mobile devices... won't be dead on the desktop market though because it will probably take a foothold in nettops and those monitor-pc thingies... the only thing though is the stock cooler on these aren't brilliant. Even cheap aftermarket coolers perform better than the stock, which kinda makes me wonder why AMD don't atleast provide a good stock cooler for their CPUs, especially since aftermarket ones void warranty (although aftermarket ones are mainly for people who overclock and overclocking voids warranty).

Mind you, I don't get how using a different cooler than stock to keep your CPU cooler, and healthier voids warranty. How does AMD even know if you've used an alternative cooler? :cooler:
