Desktop ticks at power on - help

Hi,

I opened my old desktop to check the memory type.

Left it open overnight and the next day when I try to start it up, I get a smell like something is hot/burned and the colling fans shut down.

After waiting for some time, fans now are working but I hear a tick-tick ... tick-tick ... tick-tick ... and the red light blinks with each tick-tick.

When I press the reset button the tick stops, and releasing it makes ticks sound again.

Nothing comes on the screen - No signal.

I think everything is connected properly because I didn't change anything, except for the memory card, that I put back in.

I suspect of the power supply or the CPU.
The mobo is a Biostar P4VMA-M SOCKET 478.


Is the mobo telling me something with those ticks?
What do you think can be wrong or missing? Damaged?

I doubt that the problem is the power supply. Did you move any hardware around? Removed memory or CPU? Sounds like you have bad RAM or CPU. You should try removing 1 ram stick at a time and boot up to see if that will help.
