Intel Core i7 ("Nehalem") Review and Overclocking |
|
Neoseeker has published its review of the long anticipated Core i7 CPU. We've got benchmarks of all 3 upcoming processors, the Core i7 920, 940, and flagship 965 Extreme, at both their stock speeds and with overclocked results. Since Nehalem is a major step forward and an architectural update, I think you will definitely want to check this out.

Wow, that's more amazing than I could have imagined. Great design, but not enough improvement in games for me to make a new build.
So, I'm a little worried about this auto-overclocking that the i7's do when under load. Can that be disabled? If you overclock it and then run Prime95 won't it overclock it even more, which is probably not a good idea. Also, were no tests done on temperatures? Just FYI. You title one of the pages " Thermaltake Socket 1366 Cooler" then the subtitle on that page has a misspelling "Thermaright Socket 1366 Cooler" and of course the actual name is "Thermalright".
The new lineup looks amazing. I really wish I had some extra money to pick one of these beasts up when they come out. ------------------- ![]() ![]()

On the 965, the overclocking is done by increasing the "auto overclock" multipliers, it will only increase to the maximum you specify.
On the 920&940, you will know what the max overclock multiplier is, and as they cannot be adjusted, you have to overclock via increasing the base clock - so no surprises. Temperatures ranged from around 30'C to about 85'C, but the processors throttle to keep them under 100'C. quote malmsteenisgod

Can anyone explain the move on the part of mobo makers for adding all these eSATA connectors INSIDE the box? I find them to be of very limited value. Am I missing something?

quote NeoseekerWow, that is surprising, but I'm glad to see we can safely move away from this stuff. I like a floppy independent system. ------------------- C2D e6420 @ 3.0ghz 4GB DDR2 @ 936mhz HD4870 512MB
