Good Gaming Computer?

Click

Would this be a good up-to-date gaming, performance, and all around quality computer? It's around the budget range I can afford for a computer, and it seems to be fairly descent.

Also, are these reliable computers?

re: Good Gaming Computer?

Hello there I will be opening up my own Computer shop here soon, I'm willing to bet I could build you a better Pc for less then you would pay if you bought something like an Alienware or something.

How much are you looking to spend?

What type of games do you want to play?

How much storage space do you need?

Do you favor AMD or Intel Processors?

Send me a PM if your interested.

I will have a website up as soon as I can decide on a Domain name for it.

If you want good value don't get one from Alienware, they have the biggest rip-offs ever.

And whatever he builds you one for, I'll build one for $50 less

But really, you should build your own PC. It's too damn easy not to.

re: Good Gaming Computer?

To make it even a consideration you'd have to customize it up to about $1500-1600, otherwise it won't be that good longevity wise. Alienware are good machines buy you pay out the wazoo for them. (I have an m-5500 laptop, its a great machine 4 years old now but still runs strong like its brand new) Alienware isn't for everyone but if you got the money and don't want to deal with the fuss of building your own computer than its a great machine to have, they cost more but you get top binned parts which is a big plus.

re: Good Gaming Computer?

I would not waste any money on alienware, if your looking for a good comp and dont want to build it yourself, there are some sites where you can pick which components and they will build it for you. No point paying so much extra money for the same thing. Even read up on pc's yourself and build one, that is what i done.

re: Good Gaming Computer?

I'm in agreement with Iceguy and Ak. Building a computer isn't hard, they're nowhere near as complicated as most people believe. There are checklists for parts you need, and step by step guides on how to do it if you want to get an idea of how much it would cost, or how much work it would be. Newegg is generally a good indicator of price. You can definitely build a computer better than that Alienware setup for cheaper.

re: Good Gaming Computer?

All I'm really looking for is a computer with up-to-date parts, something that would not break down in only a few years, and that would give me the best performance when playing large games such as World of Warcraft and possibly several other MMORPG's in the near future, meaning a lot of storage and extremely well graphics card, and performance/ motherboard etc.

re: Good Gaming Computer?

You know back in Feb. i managed to build what I thought would be my dream machine and I said the same things you just said you wanted regarding not needing anything for a year or two top line graphics etc.
The one I got worked for 5 months and died
I had to fight for months with the guy and I still got well I was GOT to put it nicely.
It was not the dream I wanted it was a nightmare.

i said heck with it went to best buy bought a nice machine with a AMD6000 and 3 GB ram and a 320 GB hard drive (i have a external that I put everything on)
I just ordered a new power supply and video card from New Egg Ok I did not pay for them I just picked them out my friend ordered them and got them for me for my Birthday.
The card is in already just ordered it Sunday night it came yesterday and the power supply will be here likely tomorrow.
I will install them well I am paying 50.00 to install the PSU as i am not familiar with them) this weekend

I have one heck of a machine It runs better that that so called Dream machine ever ran and i am so happy.

I guess what I am getting at is be careful where ever you order from get everything in writing and check out the place a LOT
The place that "got" me has been around 6 years and I knew more than they did I discovered later. Plus even with all the research i still got taken.

Personally You can buy the parts yourself as said and if you are not comfortable doing it yourself than do as i did go to Dell Gateway or Acer (sorry i HATE HP i had Horrible issues with a machine from them and my friend went through hell so will never buy anything HP again)_
Get a damn good processor and memory and then upgrade you PSU and Graphics card and maybe even add a second hard drive and that way you know you are safe.

Just my opinion and advice. I could Never put the whole thing together I just do not feel comfortable doing it.

Good Luck and I hope your dream machine turns out better than mine

re: Good Gaming Computer?

first, figure out how much you can afford, then go to NewEgg(USA)or NCIX (Canada) to buy your parts. Decide if you want to go AMD or Intel for your CPU before anything else, that way you will be able to narrow down your motherboard choices(Asus, and Gigabyte are probably your best choices)(decide if you want to Crossfire or SLI). Decide if you want to go DDR2 or DDR3( Crucial,Corsair,Mushkin,Kingston)(also decide the quantity of the ram, 2gigs or 4gigs), choose between ATI or Nvidia for your videocard, decide if you want to go single HDD or raidsetup(Westerndigital,Seagate, Hitachi,Samsung).
Pick a soundcard( X-FI or Xonar)(this will matter more only if you have a good speaker system)
Pick a case that is well ventilated but doesn't cost you a small fortune. Pick a PSU that will fit your need, and you can check out how much wattage you'll need by going to this site(Pc Power and Cooling, Enermax, Seasonic, Thermaltake etc.)
Lastly, choose your OS 32bit or 64bit(that will determine how much ram you'll need, 2gigs for 32bit 4gigs for 64bit)Also choose between XP or Vista, personally I've found Vista to be a bloated garbagebag, and the fact that DX10 will only work on vista is not a good enough reason to go to Vista. If you want a comprehensive guide on both OS's, software, and hardware go to this site Finally, once you have decide on your hardware, list it here, and the members will be more than happy to give you their input on your choices.

re: Good Gaming Computer?

I would definitely not recommend alienware. They charge extra for pretty lights built in their computers.

Either build your own, or if you aren't computer smart buy all the parts and bring it to a computer shop and have them assemble it. Even if you have a computer shop assemble it, it will still be cheaper than buying an alienware or something from bestbuy.

re: Good Gaming Computer?

Dude, don't bother with a prebuilt system, while you will have a guaranteed stable system, you will be paying for that stability plus the cost to put it together. The members in this forum are always ready to answer any questions regarding a build. If you do it yourself you will save money, and gain knowledge.

Wrong, my good sir.

I bought my PC ready built. I selected all the parts, but it was built for me. Here's the thing. I worked out the total costs. I got it for cheaper ready built than I would have if I'd just bought the individual parts from the same company and built it myself.
