Everest findings would definitely help, but with my board the Opteron series was NOT supported and all it took to really grab that processor by the throat was a 3rd party BIOS flash.
Even if you can't find support in text form, it would still be worth your while to investigate any flashes that may open up some different avenues.

It would help for sure, but even if he specified his model and whatnot it'd help me find stuff for him on it as well. Or even running the service tag through the support system on Dell.com and posting the results.
Although I really haven't heard all that much on Dell flashing in the past which makes me kinda question what he could do with Xeon upgrades.

What do you want from the support system at dell? I didn't have Everest or that other thing. Sorry. If you could recommend a place to get Everest I could tell you then.
Edit was just to add my model.
I have a Dell Dimesion E510, all stock eccept for my video card, which is an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT.

the i945G chipset supports Core 2 Duo, I believe, but I doubt your board does. Call Dell and ask them if it does.
A Core 2 Duo of ANYKIND would be better than what you have for gaming.
