Best motherboard to buy?

What type of motherboard do any of you recommend for swapping out my old one? My current one is around 6 years old, and it only hold Rambus memory, and has only one processor socket, which is 423 pin.

re: Best motherboard to buy?

Honestly. you will probably have to search ebay etc for that, and I severely doubt you will find anything truly great and reasonably priced

You could get an e4400 C2D CPU, a cheapo mobo socket 775, 1Gb of ddr2 667 for approx 200 USD and it will blow your mind compared to that curent rig you are running. You might need a new GPU also, and for another 60 bucks you could throw in a 6600 which is not a great performer, but it is probably 100x better than your current video.

re: Best motherboard to buy?

not everybody lives in somalia like you, 6600 is a terrible card but my cat would disagree you could try garage sales, but you may not be that lucky either way you should be considering upgrading period. if your interested in a budget all around computer, please check this thread. http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/17/t1039373-need-help-choosing-parts-for-new-computer-800-budget

re: Best motherboard to buy?

I think a good choice would be an ASUS motherboard. It has a fair price, and it does its job, and most of them leave u a lot of space to tune ur processor or ram capabilities.

Of course u have to chose a motherboard who would fit ur processor(AMD, Intel, dual core or quad core, FSB), GPU and RAM demands.

i made the mistake of thinking that the striker was a good mobo (good thing i didnt buy it), but for that much money, you can get yourself 4 Gigabyte mobos that do the same job without the heatpipes, for the price of one striker.

going slightly off topic, what about server mobos? would you be able to get more performance out of them for gaming or other high end uses? because i see them with multiple cpu slots, and 6 or more slots for your ram, and wonder if their higher price is worth it.

Nope. Games on Windows won't even know what to do with all those CPUs.

re: Best motherboard to buy?

In reply to that thread:
I don't know if FSX supports quad-core or not. It could, but I'm just not sure.

Same goes for having a motherboard with 2 CPUs. It just depends on the game, if it is coded for it or not. I don't know enough about FSX to say.

re: Best motherboard to buy?

not sure either, but it should, seeing as how it is a resource hungry program.

by the way, for simplicity, im going to use the link in my last post for all these inquiries. after all, i seem to have taken over the thread.

re: Best motherboard to buy?

It won't work if your P4 is using DDR400 or RDRAM.
