Harvesting or Rescuing Little Sisters

I've got a question; I know in the first Bioshock, for every 3 little sisters you rescued, you got a reward. Is this the same in Bioshock 2? I've rescued one and harvested one, so I know all chances of achievements for that particular thing are out the window, but is it better in the long-run to harvest or rescue?

Yes, you still get rewarded for doing that. I like how they still left it as either Harvest or Rescue for the achievement.

In this game you don't have to rescue them ALL or harvest them ALL to get an achievement. You just have to "deal with" all of them, which means you can do either, as long as you find them all.

If you want the Savior achievement, you DO need to rescue every Little Sister.

Can you or do you need to spare Daniel Wales?

I'm also wondering if there's a way to tell how many Little Sisters there are in each area. I thought they never stopped coming out of the vents, because in Fontaine Technologies I think I've seen Big Daddys help them into the vents, and more appear as I progress.

And, can you confirm that Little Sisters can crawl in and out of vents before you take care of them? One of the Big Daddys had one, so I ducked down a floor beneath him and began attacking, wherein it said he had no Little Sister with him. Maybe just a glitch?

As far as the gifts go, I think after sparing 6 little sisters (2nd gift), you acquire a Gene Tonic that allows you to gather 60 ADAM at a time rather than 40. This is VERY worth it in the long run.

Little Sisters can crawl in and out of vents before you take care of them, if the Big Daddy they're with is leading them back to a vent (it's a small window, but it has happened to me a couple of times). I'm guessing the Big Daddy you started firing on, was leading his Little Sister back to the vent which is why it said he had no Little Sister with him. That, or it really was a glitch.

There are several pieces of misinformation in this thread. I'd like to clear them up.

1. You get a gift for every 4 Little Sisters you rescue, not 3. You won't get your first gift until you hit Siren Alley and deal with the first Little Sister there.

2. You get 2 unique Tonics for rescuing Little Sisters. The first comes in your first gift (after rescuing 4 Little Sisters), and is called 'Proud Parent'. It multiplies the amount of ADAM you get from Gathers by 1.5, so you get a grand total of 60 ADAM from each Gather.

3. The second unique Tonic is called 'Demanding Father', and is gotten after rescuing 8 Little Sisters. This cuts the amount of time it takes a Little Sister to gather ADAM from a corpse by roughly half.

4. How you deal with the Little Sisters is the only thing that affects what ending you get. The fate of Grace, Stanley, and Gil has nothing to do with it. Instead, their fates determine whether Sophia Lamb lives or dies during the final video sequence. It's not the only determining factor (which ending you have makes a slight difference in how the game determines her fate), but it's the largest one.

5. There is not an infinite number of Little Sisters. There are a grand total of 12 in the game, and they only show up a few at a time. The game only has 1 in Ryan Amusements, and no others will show up once you've dealt with her. In Pauper's Drop, there are two, and no others will show up after dealing with both. Etc., etc., etc.

6. Daniel Wales cannot be spared. In case you're confused, Daniel Wales is the guy who runs the brothel in Siren Alley. The guy in the Tank is Gilbert Alexander. He can be spared.
