General Character Discussions.

With the announcing of Diablo III, we've come to see that it is neither impossible to imagine old characters being reinstated or to see new ones spring up to life. What we do know is that we've been alloted five different character classes (two of which have been announced so far), and with the idea of at least one expansion, I'd like to say there are possibilities of having a definite seven, or perhaps even more.

The characters that have been introduced as of now:

1. [+]The Barbarian: the ferocious, 'bloodthirsty' Barbarian's come from Mount Arreat, and made their Diablo debut in the second game of the series (though there were prior hacks in Diablo 1 allowing a tweaked version of the Warrior titled as a Barbarian come into play). In Lord of Destruction, we find ourselves venturing further to Harrogath, home of the Barbarian tribes. From there on, adventurers traveled through the snowy peaks and long mountain passes to access the Worldstone, where Baal had made rest.
   
   Barbarians are a class based around brute strength and tactics. In the fast they have been able to accumulate physical damage levels far beyond any other class and serve as one of the most sturdy form of tank characters in the Diablo universe. They also have a vast array of War Cries and Taunts at their side to help boost the strength of allies, or frighten off wearied enemies.
   
   I can't imagine that the Barbarian's role will delineate much from what it's always been; a true warrior. Only time, and more info slips =p, will tell.
   
   
2. [+]The Witch Doctor: perceived as legendary, the Witch Doctor is descendant of the Umbaru peoples, and serves not only as a fierce elementalist, but as a conjurer of dark arts as well. Given that his prescense to the Diablo realm is ultimately new and somewhat lacking in description and lore, it's kind of hard to write out much more of a bio than that, ahaha.
   
   The Witch Doctor apparently draws small traits from a multitude of the Diablo 2 classes. Elemental powers of the sorceress, poison and summoning abilities of the Necromancer, and I believe you could even argue that there's a simple bit of Druid in him. Whatever the mix, I'm sure it'll at least provide for an interesting experience, and hopefully he's not one of those "good at everything; great at nothing" characters.

The main purpose and function of this thread is not only to discuss the characters at hand, but the three unveiled characters as well. Talk about your high hopes for what else will be announced. More Diablo 2 characters returning? Something new and completely unthought of at this point in time? Discuss it here, and share your ideas.

Epic banner, Arc. I caught that at the bottom of the website and thought it was cool, glad you made it a banner.

I made quick mentions of these guys in the Game Info thread, but I'll add to the future class discussion here. After thinking about it, I believe we'll get a similar five classes as we got in the original release of DII. As such, I figure these three will be added on:

1) Mage - It was already hinted at on the environment page for Caldeum, opposition of the Zakarum. Likely similar to the Sorceress from DII.

2) Amazon - Could be renamed to Valkyrie or something similar, a ranged attacking character.

3) Paladin - This class could be replaced entirely, but when I think about paladins from DII, I don't see why such a good class should be switched out. An aura class.

Some of the skills the witch doctor uses look pretty sick, and disturbing.

I love what they've done with the barbarian. The barb in D2 just seemed to howl and yell a lot and is nowhere close to being as powerful as in D3. Some of those skills that the new barb uses look insanely devastating, and the electrified effect on his weapons is a very nice add-on.

I also noticed the bosses in D3 are so much larger in size.

I'm glad there aren't going to be anymore massive armies. Playing with 7 summoners brought my PC to crash before. I have hated Necromancers ever since. I only hope the Sorceress isn't going to be too tampered with. Blizzard was my favorite.

Yeah. I hope they redo the lightning tree, too. Lower the maximum damage but definitely increase the minimum. Doing 203-20,300 damage always seemed a bit odd to me. 5,000-10,000 or 12,000 seems a little bit more reasonable.

Yeah. Maybe not 5,000. But definitely more then 200. Maybe reduce Chain Lightning a bit to compensate. Then again, I suppose it would need to have a huge range... I don't know. Just something to make it look more appealing. I don't really know what I want out of it, lol.

Definitely not. The Amazons had abilities that highlighted exactly what Amazons are supposed to do. Not only would taking the Amazon out leave bows and javelins classless, it would take out a founding class. Barb, Sorc, and Zon pretty much make up the game. Anything else is just a variant. Amazons were really good in Diablo 2, given you knew how to build them.

Hahaha, the joys of Iron Maiden.....

In my opinion there was never anything wong with javazons, other than their quite stringent gear requirements.

Actually, it'll be interesting what Blizz do to reduce the whole "one particualr item is the most useful for 80% of builds" situation atm.
