Epic Fail

Ive been playing the PC beta for a few days now, and treyarch has again shown they have no idea what makes a good PC game. Upon first glance its just the cod4 engine with new textures and guns, so basically an expansion, which actually I wouldnt mind, but every change Treyarch made just detracts from the game. Heres a list of woes-

Poor weapon physics

Sluggish gameplay (not my pc's fault, i run cod4 at max settings and i tried WaW with min settings to see if the pace picked up at all.

No country (hell, not even theatre) matched weapons. In a map between russians and germans, everyone had a thompson, or a japanese sniper rifle. The mix of weapons is a way to balance, and was fine in cod4 with the modern globalized setting, but historical accuracy just took a sharp kick to the crotch.

Speaking of historical accuracy, there are also now silencers and "aperture sights" you can add to your weapons. yes, they existed then, but not on a scale to warrant their use in a game. Hell, you just might as well let players add a laser to their gun.

Weapon Balance - If treyarch wrote history, ww2 would have been fought entirely with the thompson. It has range matching a bolt action in this game, and 3 hits will drop you. BAR's have no recoil apparantly, but the garand's recoil makes it useless.

Speaking of bolt actions, if you played cod1 or 2, dont try to use a bolt action in WaW, their treatment in this game is an insult to older pc gamers. Their lack of accuracy and poor damage (only an instagib if you hit head or upper upper chest). I got so dissapointed in my lack of any talent with the bolts in this game i had to back to cod2 rifles only server to reassure myself that it wasnt my fault

Gameplay aside, treyarch just lacks the standard of quality IW does, the sound is really bad, especially the voiceovers (I find them borderline offensive). I don't see a graphical improvement, except for fire, fire looks great.

if you ignore the poor balance and tendencys to make this game an smg orgy, there are some fun moments, like the new primary grenades (tank grenades that you can stick people with, and molotov cocktails). I also give treyarch credit for a better system for assists, now the points vary from 2 to 8 based on how much of the damage you caused.

oh, and the vehicles are a gimmick, and further throw off balance, but we all should have seen that coming, anytime you put tanks in an infantry shooter.

anyway, thats the multiplayer, im sticking with cod4 for a while longer

I agree with you about the weapons, if I play Wehrmacht I expect to use the Kar98 and MP40 and Walther P38, not a Russian SVT40, Thompson, and a Japanese pistol. The vehicles, did you play United Offensive? I though they were very good in that game online, this one I've yet to make up my mind.

Call of duty 4 is for sure better, I feel that the guns in this game are all pretty bland, cod4 there was much more 'personality' in the weapons.

also I got leve 19-65 in an hour, and so did my friend...which is very strange and dumb

the zombie mode is pretty weak considering the potential, I mean they had all these maps and everything was designed already, a better scenerio would have worked better... and I dont feel the story is very good either, although many say it is...

If you leveled that quickly then you were in a power-ranking server. Many servers are using an exploit to increase the points for kills. So, instead of 10 points per kill, you were getting 1000 or more per kill. This allows you to level very quickly and is not as it was intended.

If you play in normal servers, it takes about as long to level up as it did in COD4.

Aero
