[ Best Practice ] "Hub" Page for Each Game In A Wiki and how to branch outwards

This is a Best Practice Request that is integral to Neoseeker <> NeoWiki integration.

Please create a "hub" page for every game in a Wiki which contains details about that game.
  • The page name should the EXACT spelling of the full game name, preferably the same as what Neoseeker uses, but if Neoseeker's name is not the proper official full name then use the proper official name. Eg the game's name is The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past then create that EXACT page (eg http://zelda.neoseeker.com/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_A_Link_to_the_Past). Do NOT create a variant such as "Legend of Zelda - Link to the Past" or any other variants that have any changes. The spacing, colons, capitalisation, and inclusion of small words like "the","of","it" etc MUST be exact.
    • If Neoseeker' name is NOT the proper official name, you must create a redirect from Neoseeker's name to the official name that you used to create the hub page (could someone include directions on how to create redirects?)
  • In the hub, include detailed information above and beyond what Neoseeker's profile might contain. * Do NOT cut and paste the entire information from Neoseeker's profile and leave it at that. There should be as little duplication between the two as possible
  • Focus on:
    • Plot
    • History of the game
    • A linked list of main and supporting characters in the game
    • A linked list of levels, missions, quests etc in the game.
    • A linked list of bosses and sub-bosses
    • A linked list of all significant locations.
    • A linked list of guides or strategies that will be written in the wiki
  • LINK the lists of characters, missions, bosses, locations, secrets, etc so that others can link from this hub page to create detailed pages of all those things.
The purpose of these so called hub pages are multi fold:
  1. Neoseeker will automatically have a "Wiki" tab in each of our game profiles leading directly to these hub pages.
  2. Users who land on the hub page will be able to find ALL the major pages relating to that specific game in the series. This is why we want you to list the levels, characters, strategies etc. This is the "center" of that specific game and the way that people will be able to navigate out.
  3. Potential Contributors can use this page to find other related pages that need work.
  4. The Talk page for these hub pages allow staff and contributors to organize and discuss work related to that specific game.

Example "hub pages"

Some example hub pages that are already heading in the right direction are below. Some of these are still works in progress (as are almost all wiki pages, no matter how mature they are) and are missing elements that we need. If you can help spruce the below up, please do so! I'm sure the staff and current contributors can find other fine examples.

Edit: Fixed broken link.

A redirect is easy, just create a new page and then use
code
#REDIRECT [[Target Page]]

Be careful though, redirects are unfortunately case sensitive.

These hubs are a great way to help centralize and uniformly do the wikis.

re: [ Best Practice ] "Hub" Page for Each Game In A Wiki and how to branch outwards

We've deployed the reason for the hubs:

http://www.neoseeker.com/Games/Products/PS3/metal_gear_solid_4/

If you look at that page, and any game profile which belongs to a series that has a NeoWiki, you will see that we now automatically have a Wiki tab. The Tab links to http://wikiname.neoseeker.com/wiki/gamename

eg: http://metalgear.neoseeker.com/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid_4:_Guns_of_the_Patriots - which is exactly the name we are asking you to make the hub names.

Another example is http://www.neoseeker.com/Games/Products/PS2/grand_theft_auto_vice_city_stories/ linking to http://gta.neoseeker.com/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto:_Vice_City_Stories

If you find that the Wiki tab does not link a page you already generated, just edit the Wiki tab's destination with a redirect.

What Redirects Are For

Since Neoseeker automatically links to the wikis using the full name of the game, there will be times when the Wiki article already exists under a slight variation (even a single capitalised character difference or a semi colon will do it). Take for example Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops on Neoseeker. In the Wiki the page was created as Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (no :) - so after fumbling around abit I made a redirect to the correct URL.

[Actually I think I messed up the redirect. It shows the correct information but it doesn't actually forward, and instead stays on the URL with the colon?).

re: [ Best Practice ] "Hub" Page for Each Game In A Wiki and how to branch outwards

The redirect doesn't alter the URL itself. For example, if I redirect an article entitled "Bananas" to "Monkeys", the "Monkeys" article will be displayed but "Bananas" will remain in the address bar.

What I've done is moved the pages about so that the article with the colon is now the original. The one without now consists of a redirect.

re: [ Best Practice ] "Hub" Page for Each Game In A Wiki and how to branch outwards

You can't make it for that game, because it's not part of a series here on Neoseeker that has a wiki.
