torterra or infernape

Okay, I'm hopefully getting this game soon, and I can't decide which one to get. Could somebody list me the pros and cons of each of them? Im' personally leaning towards Torterra right now.

Infernape all the way. Mine took down like the first 3 or 4 gyms alone with his fire moves while my buddies who took turtwig at the beginning took for *bleep*ing ever to get through them

Torterra!!! He is the best grass starter, looks the coolest, and it an awesome tank. He can learn hard hitting moves and can take alot of hits cuase his defense rocks. Infernape helps more toward the end and no one needs that cause... Well, its the end and you can get a bigger variety of pokemon. Plus his defense stinks...

Torterra recommended move set:

Earthquake
Synthesis
Crunch
Leaf Storm

Torterra:
Pros:
*Evolves into final form earlier than other starters
*Learns Earthquake automatically
*Can easily dominate the 1st Gym, and is very helpul in the 5th, 6th, and 8th Gyms. Also valuable against Bertha of the Elite 4
*Hits like a truck with Physical moves
*Hard to hurt, and any damage taken can be recovered with Leech Seed and Drain moves[link name=][/link]
*All of the types it's weak to are weak to Rock attacks, which Torterra can learn with TMs
Cons:
*Slow
*Has the dreaded double-Ice weakness
*Special stats are average at best
Infernape:
Pros:
*Gains secondary type at second stage
*Fire and Fighting are very useful types
*2nd Gym doesn't stand a chance, 7th and 8th Gyms are much easier. In the Elite 4, Aaron's Bug-type will get scorched quickly
*Saves you the hassle of trying to raise a Fire-type that you catch in the wild
*Can hit fast and hard
*Good variety of moves
Cons:
*Poor defenses
*A liability in the 1st (unless you can evolve it by then) and 5th Gyms, and little use against 2 of the Elite 4
*To cover all the types it's weak to, you'd need to use 3 of its move slots
*Suffers in caves and water routes

Personally, I like Torterra more; I love Grass-types, and I like turtles. Plus, I like the idea of having a Pokémon that can actually be useful early on.

I say infernape because if your looking in rival terms you can kill empoleon with an infernape (Fighting vs. Steel)

I would go with neither. As much of a Torterra fan I am, it renders practically useless compared to that of Empoleon. Empoleon serves well throughout the metagame, in-game mostly. It proves good during Most of the gyms and is very hndy during the elite 4, knowing Water, Flying and steel type moves. Only person in the elite 4 that would serve a problem for Empoleon woukld be Bertha, but Empoleons Speed and water type attacks counter her ground types slow speed. But, If I were to choose out of the two that are mentioned, I would go with Infernape.

Torterra can kill Infernape with Earthquake?

I started with Torterra and had a hard time beating the 7th gym that's it. I just trained a Houndoom and beat her on second try..

Well Infernape definitely because Torrtera is grass and bug, Empoleom is water and ice Infernape is fighting and fire........ use fire against Torrtera bang if its strong enough hes dead use close combat if you have it against Empoleom bang if he is not higher level then you you have a 99.9999999% chance of beating he/she there you go.
(just don't let Empoleom attack first alright)
