THQ has signed a deal with Marvel Entertainment to develop a series of titles based on the Hasbro toy line for kids, Marvel Super Hero Squad. The first game is due out in 2009 and will be developed by THQ for all systems. The line of Marvel Super Hero Squad toys are a series of action figures roughly 2 inches in height that feature super-distorted, caricature-like representations different Marvel Universe characters.
"Marvel is one of the true crown jewels in the entertainment industry and we are thrilled at the prospect of both building the Marvel Super Hero Squad brand and further developing our relationship with Marvel," said THQ CEO Brian Farrell in a statement.
While nothing else was announced about this new series of games, it seems safe to assume that it will be more kid-oriented than most other superhero games. I wouldn't be too surprised if it had a similar style to Spider-Man: Friend or Foe. Of course, this isn't the first time THQ has been involved with comic-based games, as the publisher has put out games based on the Teen Titans, The Punisher, Swamp Thing, and the Hellblazer comic series in the past.

Using character-specific super powers and customized combo attacks, players will blast, punch, and bash in fast-moving combat with their nemesis. Players can either jump into a battle arena against up to three opponents in Battle Mode, or choose to relive six campaigns as depicted from the animated series in Adventure Mode. Marvel Super Hero Squad is an immersive, single and multiplayer game filled with dramatic, interactive environments where players are given extraordinary powers to fight for good or evil, depending on which Super Hero Squad character they chose to play as.
