Tips for the HBG

I have a new PSP now and have started trying to work on using Heavy bowguns. I used to be able to kill most monsters with a Light bowgun so I aren't completely new to gunning. Last night I started trying to get my skills back on track, apparently I haven't played properly since November last year. I started off with a Flechette Gun to get reacquainted with the game, I used it to kill a Kut-ku, a Gypceros, and a Tigrex which I had a little bit of trouble with. Although I never used to use HBGs much apart from the very first few quests in the game, I felt a bit ashamed of myself that I was knocked unconscious once by a low rank Tigrex at least I didn't lose to it though. It took me twenty three minutes to kill it, what is the average time to kill a low rank Tigrex with a low rank HBG? I do need a bit of help on the Tigrex, I never really learnt properly the trick of staying on its left hand side (or was it its right hand side?). I might be getting X-link Kai, because although I can do most quests solo it isn't quite the same on your own. My aim now is to get the rest of the G-rank quests done, maybe try and get the Monster Hunter quest done, and get the training quests done.

I know what skills to use, I do not use evade+2 as I am trying to improve my ability. I do not use a shield because I get fed up of the recoil. I remember all the skills but I was asking for advice on tactics and where to stand with certain monsters.
