Starting Out on High Rank: Armors

Well... I just got in High Rank, and the monsters are a heck lot stronger than they were, so I am in dire need of good armor - for both Bladesmaster and Gunner - to start with.

For Bladesmater:
I am debating between Hunter's S, and Battle S armor.
Hunter's S would give me:
- Damage Rec Speed +1
- Attack Up (Medium) [gemmed]
- Autotracker [gemmed]

Battle S, on the other hand, would give me:
- Sharpening Skill Inc
- Guard +2 [gemmed]
- Attack Up (Medium) [gemmed]
- Flat Footed

The trouble with Hunter's S is that it requires 16 Carbalite Ores... and God knows those things are rare enough as they are.
As for Battle S... nothing, really. Just a lot of monkey stuff (Conga Pelt+, Blango Pelt+, etc).


As for gunner armor... bah, I need something good. One hit from a Basarios in my Ceanataur gunner armor, and I died.
I'm thinking of full Shinobi (Sun), which gives:
- Throwing Skill Up
- Element Attack Up
- Evade +2 [gemmed]
- Cold Increase [Lo]
Defense is 20 apiece, so that makes a total of 100 Defense.
Would it be enough to withstand at least ONE attack?

If you use Lance or Gunlance, that Battle S will be very nice!

The flat-footed is a bit of shame. Can you not gem that out or swap one piece for another?

As for Gunner: If you have Evade+2, you'll find you won't get hit.
Shinobi isn't much in the way of protection. You would surely die.

I will try and find a good HR6 gunner set I had. It had Evade+2 and 2 others, I can't remember what, though.

At High Rank you can start to mix armour. I'll have a look for something for you, if you want, at HR4 level. What weapons do you use and what skills do you want?

I've never used Hunter S or Battle S, but I expect they are both good sets, seeing as they were great newbie friendly sets at the beginning of the game.

The real question is what weapons do you use? You make armor based on your main category of weaponry.

if you go through that many potions in a quest, i would definitely recommend a good set with evade+2.
im not sure if you can get obituary/butterfly s yet, but if you can go for it (it'll be in the red rarety8, section).

to be honest it's not a good idea to rely on your defense to keep your health up so you don't have to bother dodging s much (unless, of course, you are farming a lower ranked monster that deals little damage.) if you go through that much healing stuf every quest what i would reccomend going oon quests naked and trying to kill the monster without dying (this is how i got good at dodging).

and when you use lance or GL, go for skills that suit your playstyle, for example, if you like to turtle alot get guard+2, if you like to use the backhop alot evade skills . evade inc and +2 makes you godly with a lance but this is only available through narga armour (as far as im aware)

<_< Using evade and evade dis up for lancing is as worse as turtleing the whole quest but its a great help for newbies :3

I love how every answer you ever have is 'Copy me, I'm Mazereon'! Yeah, you're good, but this game is about finding your own way.. not copying somebody else lol I have read your FAQ, and it is good, but alot of your methods can be beaten and improved upon. Try personal advice instead of links, it is so much better!

There is no fight, Maze is good. I can emulate the things he has done without ever having seen them, but he is still the best. (on most things!)
