Armor Decoration Confusion

Everytime I make armor I just use Attack up Decorations.
I realize this is probably not the best decision, but I don't know what would truly be better.
Many of the decorations don't really explain their effect.
I used my Tigrex armor for weeks because I was in love with the fast eating, but other than that i don't know any other useful decorations.
I am currently making Akantor armor and Akantor Katana.
My first question is! Is there a decoration that would make the SHARPNESS of my Katana better?

My second question is! What does the HideCutter decoration do?
Does it make you carve faster? Allow more carves? Give better rewards from carving?

Please clear up my confusion!

re: Armor Decoration Confusion

Well, I know it's not a question, but in case you don't know you need at least 10 points (in some cases 15) in order to activate a skill.

Now, answering your questions:

1. Yes, there is a skill, it's called Artisan. There are some jewels that give you this skill, as well as some armors (Ukanlos Armor, G-Rank Rajang Armor, Ceanataur S/Z).

2. Hidden Cutter gives you carving skill if I'm not wrong, which does:

Carving+10 = Carving Iron Man Carving won't be interrupted from a small attack, like vespoids stingers.
Carving+20 = One extra carve, useful, but the +20 thing makes it hard to obtain.

Hope it helps.

re: Armor Decoration Confusion

Akantor armour gives Artisan/Sharpness+1 anyway so you won't need to gem it. That skill increases the sharpness in your sharpness bar. Normally both in colour and amount.

re: Armor Decoration Confusion

So with the Akantor armor full will my Katana sharpness make it a worth-using weapon?

re: Armor Decoration Confusion

I still wouldn't use the katana, since the Artisan increases, even with Artisan it still have a low sharpness.

re: Armor Decoration Confusion

Basicly, get akantor katana if you want a raw powered longsword that you use on enemies with a weak hide. Be sure to gem your akantor armor for sword sharp incr if you use it.

re: Armor Decoration Confusion

Sharpness isn't about cutting hides.

It adds a HUGE amount of damage that you don't see each level. That's why sharpening is of utmost importance. If you wear your Purple sharpness down to Blue - you may still be cutting the Rathian's hide, but you're doing so much less damage!

Sharpness +1 is the best skill for straightup damage boost. A lot of people don't realise the important of an extra level of sharpness.

But Yukiiko! Doesn't Akantor already give the +1 sharpness?

Yes it does. Cenatuar armor does as well. Same with Rajang armor.

re: Armor Decoration Confusion

I meant yukiiko, using on bosses with weaker hides because akantor katana has amazing raw, and i don't think one level of sharpness on another weapon will make enough difference to catch up to akantors longsword.

Then again I don't know the right damage boost for Sharpness +1, so your probably right.

re: Armor Decoration Confusion

Like Yuki said, sharpness makes a huge difference to damage. However so does affinity. That's why Ukanlos weapons aren't actually very good, although they first appear so. They have awful affinity and their sharpness isn't great either so they are much worse than they first appear. Akantor weapons all have really good affinity, however not sure if it makes up for the crap sharpness.

Which is why both monsters weapons are equally balanced somehow.
