Good Games, Jill!

You remind me of Trogdor before he started getting advice, you feel like someone who has a really good mindset for playing Brawl, but there are some moderately easy to fix things that hold you back a lot.

1) First is the most important one, you main Lucario and you don't know how to do Directional Influence. Directional Influence is flipping up a direction on the control stick when you get hit, doing so allows you to alter your flight path to aim for the corners of the screen. (Notice how you frequently went straight off the side, while I always went to the corners.)

Because Lucario gets more power from taking damage, dying so early from stupid things like Mario's backthrow is REALLY bad for him. When you know I'm going to throw you, repeatedly tap up on the control stick and you will survive much longer from Mario's back throw. I'm talking like 170% from the center of the stage.

For moves that hit horizontally, DI them upwards. for moves that hit vertical, DI them to the left or right depending on what corner of the screen is closest. The fastest way to break hitstun is by using an aerial (fair for Lucario is best I think), breaking your hitstun allows you to gain control over your character faster.

So the process while getting hit would be....

Shove the control stick left, right, or up depending on what allows you to sail for the longest time without dying (torward the corners!)

2) You literally only used aerials when you where knocked in the air or I was chasing after you when you tried to jump away.

Lucario's fair is very good for both keeping people away if it is spaced properly and chaining into itself or nair for extra damage, nair is his best choice after fair and his nair can even link into his jab. Do Lucario's fair in a short hop (short hops are done by pressing down the jump button and releasing it as fast as possible.) Fairs can also be used consecutively offstage.

Retreating retreating forward aerials are even more safe to use. Bair is decent while running away, uair is good to get people off the edge, and dair can be used to slow your fall to confuse people and it often knocks people against the stage if it is used right next to the edge when someone is trying to get back up. It is pretty good to use on someone's shield too, but don't use it more than once, attack someone's shield with it and jump away.

3) A lot of your deaths were from going too far offstage and not being able to make it back up. You should learn how far he can go with time, but keep it in mind because you could have done a lot better without the self destructs.

Dair is a safe edge guard and it might be good for you to try out because it stalls Lucario in the air so he doesn't die as easily.

4) Replace grounded side b with Lucario's forward smash. From what I know of Lucario, his forward smash is better than his forward special in every way other than his forward special being able to be used in the air. The only time you should be using it is to get the close range grab part of it. The grab part of it can be chained a lot of times on heavy and fast falling characters. It ends after a couple times though.

5) I think you started doing this a couple times from maybe watching what I was doing in our matches or you may have thought of it yourself, but Lucario can do two jabs and not use his third jab. He can mix up jabs by grabbing after the second one, doing close range side b after the second one, up tilt and ftilt can work as well.

6) You didn't air dodge a lot of the uairs I did, watch closely for when someone jumps up toward you, especially if you are near the ground. Some people may try to bait your air dodge and punish it, that's where Lucario's dair comes in. Down aerial helps Lucario stall and it has good disjointed range that hits twice so it shouldn't be losing to much.

What I noticed you were very good at was throwing out Aura Sphere unpredictably. Not to brag, but I'm pretty good at predicting charge-up special moves and I still had some trouble predicting you. One tactic that Steam uses is to do a retreating fair against someone's shield and then shoot an aura sphere afterwards. It's hard for people to get through as long as the Aura Sphere is fully charged. Other than that, you were very good at Aura Sphering, good job.

You could bend Extreme Speed pretty well and you had a lot of variety in the moves that you used without using them in dumb places. If you fix the things I pointed out, your Lucario should improve quite a bit.

Oh, wow. My advice wasn't bad even all the way back then. Haha. I'm glad I could help. I could actually probably use that for a Lucario main at my school who is just learning. Steam's guide is muuuuuuch better, but looking back on it, mine wasn't a bad starting point.

I feel like Pokemon Trainer has untapped potential. Zard and Saur have good spammable projectiles, great kill power and decent speed. Squirtle is, simply put, great at everything. I know Saur's tether hurts her a lot, but I really think there is more to be done for them. Does anyone have a good guide somewhere? I'm not sure but I think there maybe a guide on this site.... if I'm remembering correctly. However, you off base on your assessment of Charizard and Ivysaur neither really have spamable projectiles. As for kill power IVysaur actually doesn't have tremendous kill power yeah she has usmash but the odds of land them are slim and considering it a good kill move is a stretch. Squirttle is great at racking damage however, he's also poor at killing like Ivy.
