(News!) Plot, Gameplay, Locations and Characters revealed!

Yay! We finally have some news for the game ... quote Fatal Frame IV - Plot, Gameplay, Locations and Characters revealed! Three sisters and a camera on a haunted island? Sounds about right. Plot: The game is set in the mysterious Rougetsu Island, where five young girls of the Minazuki family were kidnapped in the past. Two of the girls later died, while the remaining three - Ruka, Misaki, and Madoka - have decided to visit the island in an attempt to remember what happened during that incident. The magazine reveals that players will take on the role of Ruka and venture around the mansion in the island, which is decorated with a number of strange masks. Looking at the previous games in the series, players switched between characters so there is still the possibility of both Misaki and Madoka becoming playable as well. Gameplay: Gameplay will still revolve around players using the 'soul capturing' camera to eliminate ghosts and other bizarre creatures. (for those unfamiliar with the concept, here is an example) No new details on how Wiimote controls might play into the new game were revealed. (cameraslens.com revealed that there's specualtion from the Famitsu editors that we're possibly playing the game from behind the main character's back - possibly like RE4? gamegrep article quoteNew Fatal Frame IV tidbits ... It's sounding a little Silent Hill-esquecameraslens.com have translated the recent Fatal Frame IV pamphlet, revealing some new tidbits regarding the game. One of the more interesting changes include the addition of an abandoned hospital as an area that players can explore. Previously, the FF games only had a haunted mansion or small village as the main location. But Fatal Frame IV seems to have an entire island to wander around on, including various buildings on the island. It sounds a little Silent Hill-esque, but you can imagine the sorts of ghouls that would be lurking around an old hospital. gamegrep article - more info here Sounds awesome! ... though I'm a bit iffy about the RE4-style camera angles. I'm guessing they mean "over the shoulder" views? Fatal Frame's fixed camera has always created some interesting (and scary) angles from where ghosts can jump out from. So it will be strange if they change that.

The famitsu editors are 'guessing' based on the screenshots they have seen so far. But yeah, it would be the 'over the shoulder' approach. There is also a full translation (not just tidbits) on BCL now. Plus information on the other two scans that have surfaced. I am excited though!!

Interesting indeed.
I don't know about the whole 'over the shoulder' deal...but as long as the camera is still in first person, I'll be satisfied (hopefully...) I don't think the developers would change that aspect.
And for the game being 'silent hill-like', I'm all for it. I love Silent Hill. Lets not forget that Fatal Frame two was SH-like because you get to explore an entire village (SH has you explore an entire town, almost the same thing really.) Most horror games are a lot like SH now. All you need are freakish monsters and a ritual to stir up trouble, and there you go. Games that have this basic formula are Condemned (Though, you don't find out until the second game) Indigo Prophecy, Fatal Frame series, Siren, Resident Evil 4 had some ritual involving Ashley...right?... and I think Eternal Darkness had something like that as well. There are others I can't think of... I guess its sort of a ritual to have a ritual in a horror game now...wow...corny.

Wow, good to have some new information. the plot sounds pretty nice, I'm sure it will incorporate flashbacks from the past when they were kidnapped, so it seems to already have set up quite a spooky atmosphere. I hope they don't change the camera angle though, that's always been one of the best things about Fatal frame.

Sweetheart I have to confess.♥
