Update: It's about time we got some solid info!





They look awesome!

A while ago (back when site's believed FFIV would be for PS3) it was announced that there would be at least twice as many characters in the game world at a time. I'm not sure if that still applies, but if so, then there will certainly be alot of characters!

What type of new characters do you want to see in FFIV?

Do you like the look of the new characters?

And do you want to see any familiar FF characters return? If so, who do you want to see, and why?

I feel like it's really weird seeing a Western girl as the protagonist in Fatal Frame. It doesn't seem right. With the new ghost woman, she seems fine to me.

I'd like to see scarier looking ghosts and probably noisier ones. And the playable character(s), she/they should look kinda shocked when or after battling with a ghost. I mean, like what I've seen with other characters of the previous games after defeating a ghost, they look as if nothing happened at all then they just go on.

I want Miku,Mio,Kei and Rei to return! If possible, Mayu.
And maybe we should get to meet some of the less focused on characters of the previous games.

Hmmm... The new ghost woman is wearing a mask. I wonder if she looks a lot like the protagonist...

I wouldn't mind seeing the dead playable characters again ... Mayu, Mafuyu and Kei. It'd be great seeing more of their tortured little spirits. XD.

I loved seeing Mio and Mayu in FFIII. Despite it being a small cameo, it was a great little addition to the story, and a great way to connect Kei to the happenings in the Manor of Sleep. I'd love to see some of the more prominent ghosts too. The Kusabi (of course), Masumi and Miyako (love these two), and maybe Kirie (if we see Mafuyu again, then it makes sense she'd be there too). Though, of course, there would have to be a good reason for their return.

I like this idea.
Maybe the characters could become a little shaken and disoriented after an attack (which could be reflected through the controls)? That might be a little frustrating, but if done right, it could be very effective too.

(I remember Fatal Frame 1 had the dual-shock controller shake to Miku's heartbeat. That was amazing. It was a small thing, but really helped the player transport themselves into the FF world - and feel the terror that Miku was feeling).

Seeing as you said this game is based on Lost Memories within a Western house, maybe the girl is an ancestor of one of the previous characters(or the other way round)? I know nothing of the setting of this game, nor the characters of the previous, but it's plausible that she could be related (mixed-race, perhaps?) to one of the characters, no? She could be living out previous memories, which imo, would be quite interesting. Maybe there's something in this house that sets off these memories.

Well, seeing how no one here is stupid enough to believe this new main character is Mio Amakura, I feel as though I have met people of real intelligence.

Perhaps she IS a descendant of a previous heroine. My guess is Rei, because she and Miku are the only survivors of the 3rd games canon ending. Its possible she found someone else after she and Yuu had their little reunion.

She may also be a relative of Miku, but I'm not sure because she doesn't strike me as even a cousin of Miku's.

Then there's Kei. Perhaps Kei had a daughter before he died in the 3rd game?

And then the last theory...She's new, and only has one tie to at least one of the previous characters...but seeing as how Japanese games always have that hint of amnesia, she probably wouldn't be able to tell us.

And as for the new ghost lady priestess...person (Fatal frame without a vengeful dead priestess is like an emo kid without a razor blade.)I'm not sure about her. She's a dead (Or maybe not) priestess with a mask and an out of place outfit.

Those are my thoughts. There, I'm done.

kei is dead so probably the most interesting question regarding characters from past games would be "what happened to mio in FF3?" well this kind of theory running through my mind if kei's dead before she finds mio, then no one would save her if mayu's apparition appeared and then she kept following it(think about rei stopping miku from following mafuyu, but rei saved her right?) so who would save mio? no one unless the staffs suddenly reveal a hidden character in FF3 and saved mio, that would be too corny and i dont belive tecmo wouldnt do that

i want to see the other characters come back. not all their stories have been finished yet so i want them to make a appearance to answer the unfinished questions.

i jst wanted to say that kei and mio does NOT die in fatal frame 3...
it's true!! there's 2 endings and the 2 end is when they survive!!
when the credits are rolling on the screen in the 2 end it appears photos of kei's awakening,kei introdcing mio to miku & rei,kei and mio visiting the place where mio was sitting at the end of the fatal frame 2 game...they survive,you just have to get the2 ending cuz they are 2 endings.

It hasn't been confirmed which ending was the canon ending though, so either one could be the "true" ending.
As much as I'd like the "true" ending to be the one where Mio and Kei live, Fatal Frame has a habit of making the "bad" endings the canon ones. (where the characters die).

I hope they confirm which ending is the "true" ending in Fatal Frame IV. They can't just leave the players hanging like that - We want confirmation!

(It's also interesting that Misaki's last name is Aso. It looks like she'll have some relation to Yuu from FF3).

Agreed, but I think its safe to say that the first ending in the 3rd game is canon. The 3rd game made it very clear that project zero likes to use the first endings as canon, considering a lot of people only play through a game once. (hard core fatal frame fans would have probably gotten all possible endings, but lets face it, a lot of people are not hard core fatal frame fans and are turned off by the unique form of gameplay...which is sad to hear, but very true.)
Personally, I like Mio, and Kei, and everything, but trying to bring back characters in a new game would make it just another version of Fatal Frame 3. We had our fun going back to the Lost village and Himuro Mansion, but lets just move on and stop trying to hope for another reunion game. Back when everyone thought that the main character was Mio, I was turned off by it. I didn't want to see Mio again, And in no way shape or form did I ever want to see Mayu again. I thought "Oh great...another way they can milk the success of FF2." Plus, I knew from beating the 3rd game twice that in the first ending (most likely canon) Mio presumably died. I wanted something new. New characters, new environment and a new storyline.

Looks like I'm getting my wish.

As for confirmation on what happened to Kei and Mio, I think that when you come downstairs and he's just ashes lying on the couch and that Mio is never seen again is confirmation enough for me. They're dead. Sorry to say it so bluntly, but thats most likely the way its going to be.

It'd be cool if they mention Yuu or something. But thats it. No guest appearances. This isn't Saturday Night live.
