new RA3 info
|
feel free to share info or stories about the red alert series here..that being said, i have info about RA3.
1st - (A new force emerges) - It'll feature a three sided conflict that they are referring to as World War 3. The Allies and Soviets are back of course...and that little trip to the past to wipe up Yuri's mess with his own face, caused a rift, and the Empire of the Rising Sun came to power in the east.
2nd - The campaign will apparently be Co-op, so you can play it with your friends, or if you don't want to play with friends, there will be AI generals with their own personalities and tactics that will assist you.
That's all i have for now, but these new features sound cool to me. If i find out anymore I'll post it here as well.

Emperor Battle For Dune, which is a similar RTS made by the same company had Duel Co-op Campaign feature as well. And I must say, it's really awesome to have it on Red Alert 3!

More new info as promised.
According to EA, unlike most other RTS games, RA3 will be heavily involved with the navy. Even to the extent of building bases IN THE WATER! Now thast sounds awesome, i always loved the allied navy. it just keeps getting better and better. if i find out more, you know where to look, right here.

I'm not sure if giving Red Alert an emphasis on sea skirmishes is good or not, I would prefer it if they kept it largely on land, as that's what most RTS' do. RA2 was a great game and that was predominately set on land, so I think a move to the sea isn't great.
As for co-op skirmishes, that's a great idea. I'll just make sure I don't have some dunce on my team who doesn't know how to win a war
On a side note, could this thread be re-named/ used as an Information Discussion thread, as we already have an Information thread

GS AU: Tell us about naval action in the game. How has it changed from previous RAs?
CC: We've never gotten navy exactly right in a game before--I don't know that any RTS really has. In the past, most RTS games have kept naval game play at arm's length and treated it as a minor, purely peripheral experience. This time around we're bringing naval game play into the heart of the game design, making it a first-class partner with the land and air game. The player that can master the seas will master the world of Red Alert 3. Sounds like it's somewhat optional, but it's to your advantage if you know how to use it. Although if The Empire of the Rising Sun is Japan I guess we could expect a lot of sea battles with them, after all their surrounded by water. quote DTFC4Life
As for co-op skirmishes, that's a great idea. I'll just make sure I don't have some dunce on my team who doesn't know how to win a war I fear the same thing, but I guess that why there's AI command that you could take the mission with.

1st - empire of the rising sun is indeed Japan, even if the name of the faction doesnt give it away, (land of the rising sun is japan, duh), i have heard an EA C&C programer say it is japan.
2nd - im not so sure naval battle is gonna be so much optional as almost down right nessacery...unless i have heard wrong, u can build entire bases on water in RA3, u can harvest on water...and i believe i heard someone that works for EA go so far as to say there will be maps with more water than land...i smell a WWII mod.."battle for the pacific" lol, anyway, hope this helps..
3rd - its the campaign thats co-op, skirmish will be however u set it up i imagine, i assume thats what u meant, just tryin to clearify..

I don't see why there's going to be a massive emphasis on naval battles, there seems to be no logical reason for it. There better be something to the plot line which says why we'll be fighting so much on the sea... I think I need more information on this game to decide whether I'll like it or not.

Interestingly, the naval game will be crucial to victory in Red Alert 3. Not only will the game feature units that are seafaring-only as well as amphibious (can operate on either land or water), but it'll also include resource nodes in water and will even let you build bases in water. As such, if you decide to not get your feet wet, your opponents may be able to develop larger and richer holdings than you by seizing water-bound resources, and you may not even be able to reach your enemies to attack their base if they're out in the water and all you have are land-bound tanks. The EA team working on this probably thought it would be cool. I don't really mind navy battles, I think it will add more dimensions to the game if it's done right. quote Cypher8492

I've heard both, that it's inspired by Japan, and it's is Japan.

I think I'm still undecided, it sounds like a decent idea, but I was never a fan of naval battles in RA2. At least the emphasis isn't all on naval battles. I guess I'll just have to change my playing style...

its just something we will all have to adjust to, thus far in the RTS genre, naval forces, much like air forces, played much more of a supporting role, while all the heavy action and fighting was done on land. by focusing in on the navy, i think EA seeks to shake this up a bit.
And I am alommst certain there will be some explaination as to why naval warfare has become so important in the RA3 storyline. Perhaps it will be along the lines of (this is pure fiction, not something ive heard, just a guess at the explaination), around about ur fourth or fifth mission against the soviets, the empire shows itself, and being an island nation like Anon_Y_Mous said, it would be expected for them to have a kickass navy. So, the allis AND the soviets have to pump up their navies to keep up. Just a guess, but, i suppose thats one way to go....

I didn't mean to sound like a pessimist with all those comments but the video posted in the Info thread by Anon_Y_Mous impressed me. I'll probably end up buying this game sometime, just because I'm an Red Alert fan.
We'll have to get some clan matches going on
