Deciphering the Trailer
|
From looking at the new trailer, it is perhaps possible to suggest possible new features of the newest installment in the Call of Duty series. I had a go at naming some myself, but do feel free to add to the list with your own perceptions. The Japanese will be involved!
There is a small piece of Japanese language (I think) right at the start of the trailer, which overlays the American voice as the trailer progresses. It has been confirmed that AI has been tweaked to mimic the Japanese's fighting style more, which will involve hiding in shrubbery, climbing up trees, and being involved in their traditional suicide attacks.
Weapons
Most of the weapons seen in the trailer can be found in the older Call of Duty Games, and favorites such as Shotguns and Thompsons look to be making a reappearance. New weapons seem to include Flamethrowers, and perhaps even Katana's. The use of these may be given only to the enemy AI, though, but it is debatable as to whether or not they will make an appearance in the multiplayer mode on the game. Other weapons that I can see include the M1 Garand, some sort of Sniper Rifle (A Springfield, perhaps?) as well as a high use of explosives...I'm sure dinosoid will be able to expand on this, with him being our resident Guns expert!
» Weapons ThreadBaby go BOOM!
There is A LOT of explosions going off in the trailer. Shots of a plane flaming and crashing to the ground could suggest anti-aircraft guns, while vehicles blowing up give almost endless possibilities of what explosives could be involved. Grenades are sure to be included, but land mines and other anti-vehicle explosions could also make an appearance. There is also the use of them flash-thingies, seen at the very start of the trailer (I'm sure someone can tell me what they are called!).
Multiple Melee Attacks?
Far from just a traditional bash or knife, there seems to be many more options available for the melee attack. This is perhaps where the Katana will come into use, as it could be used in a similar way that the knife is used on Call of Duty 4. The bash also seems to be back, and there is some use of a bayonet shown in the trailer. An interesting melee attack could be one that makes sure an enemy is dead when they are on the ground. The trailer shows a soldier plunging a knife into another soldier, in a similar way to moves seen in many a hack-'n'-slash games.
Vehicles?
There are vehicles scattered all over the place on the trailer, but whether or not they are controllable or not is the issue. Vehicles have featured in other games in the series without much in terms of actually being able to ride around in them, so it is unclear if they will play a similar role in Call of Duty 5.
New ways of cover
We know that the AI will be able to climb up trees and hide more effectively between shrubbery, but it is entirely possible that this feature will be transferred over to the online mode, if not available in the single player campaign. This could provide create opportunities for new places to take cover, and, of course, new places to camp. » That is all I can get so far from the 1 Minute 7 Seconds of trailer we have, but it is a start nonetheless. Will be interesting to see what else we can work out before actual game information is properly released!

There looked like a couple of executions in the trailer, perhaps we will see them single player, perhaps like the other games but I hope for they have some form of them which we can control.
And does anybody else think this trailers looks a lot like the opening cinematic in COD 4?

If they do that then I will laugh at Treyarch harder than I am currently.

The soldier on fire looks brutal.
