"Okay, Ralts, you shouldn't win!" Kane shouted to his Pokémon. "Just lose with dignity!"
"That's an odd way to inspire your Pokémon..." Alice said aloud, then he threw his pokeball. In a flash of red light, a light blue Pokémon came out, feeling majestic.
"What is that ugly thing?" Kane asked. Alice and Lady Of The Lake both fell to the ground face first.
Getting up, Alice exclaimed "That's an Amaura, and her name is Lady Of The Lake!"
"Lady Of The Lake? That name is like, way to long. Ralts, you can win now."
"OH COME ON!!!"
(BATTLE MUSIC START)
"Confusion!" Kane shouted. Ralts obliged and shot the purple pulse at LOTL, who dodged then made a screen of light to protect her.
"Lady Of The Lake, use Rock Throw!" Alice yelled, then the Amaura used her power to lift the rocks surrounding them and tossed them at Ralts, who dodged, then retaliated by using Magical Leaf. Leaves of psychic power formed in thin air, which then shot at LOTL. She tried to dodge, but the leaves were too fast, and hit her dead on. "No! Get up, Lady Of The Lake!"
"Hah! Nice, Ralts!" Kane cheered, then stopped as he realized he was actually cheering. I must be enjoying the battle! Kane thought to himself.
Ralts got distracted by the cheers and didn't see LOTL's Powder Snow heading straight for her. She was hit directly in the back, and then she shivered painfully. The Amaura jumped for joy, and in midair got hit by Magical Leaf again.
This then turned to a battle the Pokémon were handling themselves, with no input from their trainers.
"Well... this is like a cat fight or something." Kane stated. Alice remembered his earlier encounter with the Skitty and sweatdropped.
Eventually, it was Ralts's never-missing Magical Leaf that made Lady Of The Lake faint, and by then, Kane and Alice were sitting down and enjoying a spot of tea. Ralts walked over to her master and went, Riiii-alts!
"Wait, you won?!?!" Alice exclaimed, disappointed. He carried the exhausted Amaura over to them then laid it down on some leaves. "...Get some rest, Lady Of The Lake, you deserve it."
"You lost? CRAP!" Kane face-palmed for the second time that day and swore under his breath. "Looks like I'm stuck with him..."

ALICE - Route 15 - Vs Kane
Alice softly rubbed his arms and face trying to ease the pain from the Skitty's scratches. To no avail, though, since the itchiness did not fade away. Therefore, he gave up on the first aids and instead focused on the challenge that was being displayed to him. There was one last obstacle that stood between him and the Tree, so the test of his worth would have to be postponed.
"I'm being given to understand that a duel is in order. In that case I'd sa-"
"Duel? What are you talking about?" Kane violently interrupted Alice's words. "I'll just beat your redhead ass so you can go home and cry to your mommy!"
"Oh, my... How unknightly of you. A gentleman should let another finish his sentences." Replied the squire, politely, but with derision. "Now, if you'll please allow me to continue... As I was saying, since nobody is wearing gauntlets to throw down these days, we could count the throwing of this branch as the formal grievance that constitutes the challenge. Shame we don't have anyone to bear witness to it. Now, I have no intention of presenting apology or any form of restitution, so I guess the challenge is accepted. And next is..."
Alice turned around and looked at his surroundings, assessing them for a minute, like a dog who had just entered a home he'd never seen before. Route 15 was an unpaved dirt road bordering a small hill, to the bottom of which stood the huge Tree of Ianus. Some new trees and bushes had started growing around it, but the majestic tree towered above them all. Nobody besides the two men could be seen anywhere. Kane stared at him, puzzled by the colorful guy's weird doings.
"You're the challenger, so you should propose the "field of honour", but I think we'll both agree that this place has the required isolation, and jurisdictional ambiguity should be no problem as long as the cops back there don't come anywhere near..."
Suddenly, Alice realized something. The officer at the City gate had told him that there had been a breakthrough and that there was a "dangerous guy" on the loose, and if no one else was on the route with them, then it would mean that Kane was this guy. "Doesn't seem much dangerous", he thought, but if the cops were looking for him, the more reason to vanquish him, fair and square.
"So, this spot works nice for the duel. Now, we have no seconds or squires and no means of obtaining them either. All that's left is the weapons..." Alice took Lady of the Lake's silver pokéball out of his pocket. He had to put her back inside her ball when crossing the police barrier, but now there was no reason to keep her locked anymore. Letting the ball roll from his hand, the Ice dinosaur came out of it right besides Alice, who squatted and gently patted her head, then turned to face Kane once more. "Since you're the one who demands satisfaction and consequently issued the challenge, it's my choice, and seeing that I have but a single companion, I suggest making it a one-on-one."
"A fortunate coincidence," said Kane, speaking for the first time after Alice's rule explanation monologue. "I only have Ralts as well."
"Then it's settled. Lastly, the victory conditions. "À l'outrance" is completely out of the question, so we're left with first blood and fainting. I'd rather not go with fainting, though... I don't see any reason to unnecessarily hurt our friends for the sake of our disputes."
Finally realizing to some extent what was going on, Kane decided to play along with Alice's act. "Is it cowardice I hear? I thought I'd heard somewhere that first blood was "dishonorable" and "unmanly"... But I guess I must have got it wrong. You didn't look very manly to begin with, anyway."
Yet another insult to his honor. Second of the day, after the one proferred by that traitorous Jack the same morning. Was this region brimming with offenders without manners? Alice was more determined than ever to accomplish his goal. Instructing Lady of the Lake to stand on the battlefield, the knight aspirant stretched his arms and neck, readying himself for the battle about to begin.

ALICE - Route 15 - Vs Kane
"Confusion!" Kane was the first to make a move. Ralts jumped in front of him and started focusing, holding her head with her tiny fingerless hands, as if she was trying to gather all of her concentration in a single spot. Then, the small psychic pokémon fired a blast of energy at the ice fossil, who didn't even see it coming. The attack hit Lady on the chest and sent her flying back, hitting herself on the floor while rolling aimlessly. With great effort, Alice somehow catched her in his skeletal arms, saving her from further damage.
"That's all? Maybe I should have agreed on the first blood after all." Said Kane, clearly provoking his opponent. Alice didn't seem to fall for the taunt, though, merely placing his pokémon friend on the ground again after inspecting the point of impact and applying a gentle pat once more.
"Don't worry, Lady, I'm counting on you, but don't try to hard, okay? I wouldn't want you to get hurt." he said, taking an Oran Berry out of nowhere and giving it to the Amaura. She happily ate it and rushed back to the middle of the road, prepared to fight Kane's Ralts. Still, Alice did not give her any order at all, and so, nothing happened.
"Confusion again!" Kane yelled at Ralts once more, and the small pokémon shot another pulse of psychic energy at Lady of the Lake. This time, however, she was paying attention and dodged it jumping to the side. "Where are you aiming, you midget?" He was starting to grow impatient. And Alice didn't seem to
be planning to start giving orders anytime soon. Kane was clearly upset by the redhead's apparent lack of interest in the battle. "Hey, Magikarp!" An impressively imaginative nickname, thought Alice with sarcasm, looking at the Tattoo on his left arm. "You sure talked a lot just a minute ago! Where did all that confidence go? Did the Skitty eat your tongue? You know, maybe you should actually start giving orders to your pokémon."
Our prince apprentice sighed, as if he had heard that same sentences a million times, while he stared at the guy in front of him with a look of dissatisfaction in his gaze. Suddenly, he proceeded with the explanation that so many times before he had had to give "Lady of the Lake is not my pokémon. She's my friend, my companion, and I am nobody to be giving orders to my friends."
"Say what? Get real, man!" Apparently, the answer did not please Kane "This is a war!" It was true. The war hadn't started yet, but it was just a matter of time, and everybody knew that. "This is a damn war, and we're the soldiers. We have to make a difference, because if it's not us, who will do anything to fix things? Don't you see it? How do you plan on changing anything if you can't even take a fight seriously!? I've had enough of you and your pathetic attitude, Magikarp." He turned around and started walking away, down the dirt path. "Let's go, Ralts. I'm out of this."
"Wait!" Yelled Alice, stopping Kane in place "Maybe... You know... What you said, it's probably true..." The other guy walked back to where he had been standing seconds before. Alice just stared down, his eyes fixed on the ground as he spoke. "I just... I- I don't know... I din't want to make her do anything she didn't want, or put her in danger. I jus-"
While the redhead was pronouncing these words, Lady of the Lake approached him and poked him on the chest with her head. He stared at her friend, who had been with him for so long. Always together. Suddenly, Alice was full of confidence again. He raised his head and looked at Kane directly in the eyes.
"But you're right. I want to make a difference."
The fire in his soul was burning brighter and wilder than ever before, and a smirk appeared on his opponent's face.
"Oh, look at this. Seems that you're not a complete sissy after all. Maybe we can even have some fun in the end."
Ralts jumped into the field again, as did Lady of the Lake, ready to resume their battle.
"Are you okay with this, Lady?" The ice pokémon nodded his head enthusiastically, in sign of approval. "Okay then. Use Round!"
"Aaawww!" The blue dinosaur started singing a weird tune that echoed throughout the route. Suddenly, the air before her mouth started turning into tiny sharp snowflakes and ice crystals, flying towards Ralts.
"Finally!" exclaimed Kane, who, given his jerk-like attitude, was surprisingly thrilled by the battle "Ralts, counter with another Confusion!"
The small psychic pokémon shot another blast of purple energy, making it collide with the frozen breath that emerged from Lady of the Lake's song, both of the moves neutralizing each other in a colorful explosion of purple waves and frosty icicles.
"I thought that was a Normal-Type move." Kane pondered. "So why the ice?"
"I shouldn't give tips to my rival, but meh... Lady's Ice Skin ability- oh, no, wait, that's the japanese name... I think in this region it's known as Refrigerate. Anyway, it turns normal-type moves into the ice-type, and powers them up. Pretty nifty, isn't it?"
"Nice to know. Hey, Ralts, you better not get hit by any of his Ice moves, got it?"
"Riiii-alts!" she jumped around, trying to show that she had understood.
"Great, now get out there and beat them any way you can." Ralts turned to the Amaura and started taunting it with his hands, as if to say "come and get me".
"Round's not working, so instead... Use Take Down, Lady of the Lake!"
Lady dashed towards Ralts, who was still provoking her with gestures of her short arms. "Dodge it..." instructed Kane, as the light blue dinosaur leapt forward, turning sideways and attempting to slam the psychic pokémon with her right shoulder. "Now!" Ralts teleported away from the attack, leaving Lady of the Lake to miss her target and take a tumble, hitting her head against a small stone. She stood up quickly and walked back to the center of the track, feigning a calm and collected composure, but tripped again on the way and fell clumsily to the ground. Alice ran to her.
"Lady! Are you hurt? It's alright if you don't want to do it, we can stop."
Small tears had begun froming on the corners of her eyes. She was sad... So sad for dissapointing her friend. Alice noticed.
"Hey, What's up? Oh, don't cry on me now. It's fine! You've never had a serious battle before after all, so like I said before, don't push yourself too hard." and after that, he gave her a warm smile and stood up. "Got it?" Lady of the Lake stood up as well and followed him. "You don't want them to think we're losers, do you? Come on, my dear, let's go and show them how brave and strong we really are." Alice smiled again, and the amaura stood again in front of Kane's Ralts.
"This will be the last move." said the grumpy guy, to which Alice replied only with a sharp "I know it.", not even looking at him.
"Very well then. Ralts, finish this with Magical Leaf."
"Lady of the Lake, use Icy Wind"
A flurry of colorful leaves danced across the chilly breeze, and when the mist cleared, Lady was once more laying on the floor. Alice hastily rushed to see her.
"Craven!" he shouted.
"Huh? What does that mean?"
"It means that we give up. You win." He embraced his companion, pressing her hard agains his chest. The pokémons frozen skin left a coat of ice on his shirt, but he didn't care at all. Suddenly, he started crying. "I'm sorry!! I'm sorry, Lady! I shouldn't have make you fight... I- I knew this would happen but... I'm so so sorry!!"
Still curled between his arms, Lady of the Lake stretched her neck and licked his forehead. For a moment, Alice seemed to understand her feelings "Don't worry, it's fine. I wanted to do this... for you." He held her tighter, the cold trespassing his clothes and making him shiver. He still didn't care.
Kane had been looking at the scene all the time, with his usual uninterested face.
"Hey, Magikarp. This isn't right. It's not fair if you give up. But I'll tell you something." He walked towards them, reaching out his hand to help Alice stand up "I've seen that you do care about this after all, about making a difference... And I thought, maybe... That we could, like, go together. Help each other make the world a better place." He seemed to have a hard time saying these words. "So, what do you say?
Alice streched his arm, grabbed the hand that the other guy was offering him, and stood up.
"Sounds fine. You got yourself a travel mate." Trying to prevent Kane from seeing, he smiled. The knight had just found his lancer, the first companion on his journey, this honorable quest.
"Then we'll call it a draw. Better luck next time. Good job, Ralts." He picked the pokémon with one hand, and raised a finger so that the little creature could high-five him.
"Didn't tell you my name, right? It's Alice."
"Don't care. Magikarp's just perfect for you" Kane turned around and set off towards the horizon, down the path. Time had gone by swiftly while they were battling, and it was already starting to set. Route 15 was painted with the orange hue of Twilight, and Alice started following him. Nobody knew where they steps would take them, what might they encounter on their paths. They didn't care.

Hikaru Valingrad Stormblade
The Stormblade manor, Home to a long line of warriors and tacticians who have served the Volothas government in time's of war since ancient time's. It is a small but secluded castle located not far from Figg city. The ages have been unkind to the Stormblade's as the advancement of civilization and with the fall of the old kingdom and the rise of a false Democratic Volothas has stripped both their fame and fortune away from them. In the hopes of restoring their former glory and gaining favor in the face of the new age, all members of the Stormblade clan have conscripted themselves into the Volothas military, save the youngest of the family, Hikaru Stormblade, who was left behind at the the age of 14. It is three years later, and young Hikaru is now 17, old enough to be conscripted into the military but he chooses to follow a different path, this is the story of the path he choose to follow...
It is early morning at the Stormblade manor. A faint breeze rolls into the library's open window as well as the distant singing of the local Pidgey somewhat fill the air as well as the quiet atmosphere of the manor. within the library is countless tomes of Pokemon legend's, lore, and ancient texts in general. Hikaru spends his days here studying of tactics and combat strategy's in preparation for the day he will get to have his own pokemon and fight alongside his family once again.
A young woman named Elise who is a maid at the local manor enters the room. She is 20 years old, and she became Hikaru's caretaker when the rest of his family left to fight for the Volothas military three years ago. She is shorter than Hikaru by several head's, with long blonde hair. She is a foreigner from the Kalos region but somewhat of a very close friend to Hikaru. She carry's in a small package and she puts it on the table where Hikaru has several small stacks of books standing up next to each other in a very orderly fashion. Hikaru is passed out on the table due to the fact that he constantly stays up late reading the library's books.
Elise spoke in a Gleeful tone "Hey Light, a package came in from the Volothas Headquarters! its from you're father~!"
Hikaru wakes up, somewhat annoyed with her like he usually is in the morning. He stretches His arms out and breaths deeply, then retracts to reorganize some of the books that had fallen while he was asleep. "What did I say about calling me my nickname when you are on the job?"
"Oh, come on. Its not like there is anybody else around to hear. I'm the only person who works here remember?"
"There are not other workers because my family is not as rich as we used to be and we cant afford a large, full-time staff of maid's and butler's."
"Anyways, here is your package~! I'm gonna go make you some breakfast now that you're awake." She then gleefully hums to herself as she walks back to the main corridor of the keep, closing the door to the library behind her.
"I wonder what she is so glad about. its not like anything good is happening in this country." He sighs deeply but with boredom. Nothing exciting ever happens out near the keep.
He shortly finishes up organizing the book's. Afterwards, he turns his attention to the box that came in from his father. He pulls off the tape that binds the top of the box and opens it up to see an Ultra ball and a letter. Hikaru takes out the Ultra ball at first, stunned to see such a high quality Pokeball. Pokemon supplies and medicine prices have skyrocketed due to the fact that the Volothas Armed Forces have been stockpiling supplies for war in the event that conflict between them and Korvask becomes unavoidable. After taking several moments to admire the craftsmanship and the rarity of the object, he turns his attention to the letter which he unfolds and begins to read...
To my son Hikaru. How are you doing? Its been a while since I've managed to sit down and write a letter. Anyways, you're mother, sister and older brother are doing fine. Anyways, you're wondering right now what the Ultra ball you received was for. within it is a larvitar, a fairly young one which I caught during one of my patrols. Pokemon like larvitar are starting to become increasingly rare in the Volothas region so take good care of it. I also I have a favor to ask of you. I want you too flee the Volothas region. If anything were to happen to the family then i would wish that you would carry on our legacy and bloodline. What I ask of you is tough, I know that it will be. I want you to flee to the Kalos region where you will wait till the war in this land is over. The letter end's there with several red ink stokes streaking across the bottom of it.
Hikaru crumples up the paper and throws it on the ground, then hunches over with his elbows on the table. He rub's his head in some shock. "Normally, father would be braver and sound more reassuring in his letters. If he is asking me to flee with the others than something must have him concerned, but what?"
Hikaru continued to ponder about it but suddenly remembered that he needed to see Professor Jayston about a matter concerning mega-evolution, a topic that Hikaru is deeply interested in. He quickly goes to grab his trenchcoat which was slung across the back of one of the chair's near him, then grabs the Ultra ball and shoves it in his pocket.
He rushed to the kitchen to grab him an apple. As he burst through the kitchen doors, he surprised her for a moment. "Light, where are you off to in such a hurry?" Elise asked still a little surprised. "I'm late for my lesson with Professor Jayston!" "Wait! What do you want me to do with this food I prepared for you?" "Just put it in the fridge, ill eat it later!" Hikaru rushes out on foot, with the concerning letter from his father the least concerning thing at the moment, but he has unknowingly set out on his adventure of a lifetime.

David and Phantasma walked across the border between Route 8 and Route 9.
"I still can't believe you kept that woman's stone." David admonished his bizarre travelling partner.
"I saved her Purrloin though." Phantasma argued. "This is my reward."
David sighed, knowing that it would be pointless to continue that discussion. "There's still no news about the Volothan President. She must still be in Korvask. Hopefully she's doing everything she can to keep the peace. By the time this war breaks out, we want to be far away from this godforsaken island."
"Peace is boring." Phantasma moaned. "The world needs action, excitement and a believable threat being faced by a relatable character. Without the war, our story has no threat, no tension and no suspense. That would make all the character work I've been doing mean nothing."
"Yeah... whatever. Here we are. Route 9."

What's Going On?
The Volothan President has been assassinated! Her visit to the Korvask region was intended to help maintain peace between the two regions, but now it has taken a tragic turn for the worst. The Korvaskan President claims that the Korvaskan assassins acted on their own behalf and did not kill the President of Volothas on his orders. It seems like only a matter of time before war officially breaks out.

Kane and Alice, Drab Cave Entrance
"You seem to be very quiet. Is there a problem?" Alice asked Kane as they headed down the path of Route 15.
"Yes. You are the problem, your clothes are flashy, you talk like you're from the medieval ages, your hair is so red that it is unnatural." Kane snapped.
"My... hair?" Alice wondered, stroking it to check for twigs or insects. "You are very weird-" Alice cut himself short as he noticed a fisherman struggling with his rod. Being the knightly hero he is, he leapt to help and grabbed the man's rod, pulling a giant Magikarp out of the water.
"WOAH! This will feed my family for days!" The fisherman exclaimed, staring at the large red fish. "Thanks, kid! You can keep that rod, I don't need it anymore." The fisherman grabbed the Magikarp's tail and started lugging it back to his home.
"Wow, a fishing rod!" Alice said, as he examined it closely. After a minute, he looked up and declared "I know for sure that this rod is of the Good quality."
"Okay then, freak." Kane grumbled as he checked his PokeNav, trying to find their exact location on the map. "We are around... here. We should be at the first stop by now!"
Ralts went up to Kane and pulled on his pant leg, trying to stop him, but Kane kept walking forward. She let go as soon as Kane walked above a large hole.
"Huh," Kane wandered aloud, "I can't feel the ground anymore..." Looking down, he noticed the gaping hole he was standing over. Cursing under his breath, he fell down the hole. Alice stopped what he was doing as Ralts dove in after Kane, and he decided to join in, putting the Good Rod in his pack and diving into the hole head first.

Ignoring the challenge, Jack simply turned away and muttered something under his breath. Probably how useless the whole idea of a battle was at that point. He placed the empty Pokeball back onto his belt before speaking again, this time directed at something that kept a close eye on the scene.
"Echelon, follow." from above the nearby door, what appeared to be a security camera began floating down until it was at eye level, at which point it spoke inside the nearby minds in a robotic sounding voice.
"Affirmative." the voice sounded clear inside Jack's head, however, any nearby people that weren't adjusted to the Beldum's psychic influence, heard the reply in-between a bunch of static, not unlike an old radio broadcasting under a pile of bricks. This was due to the Beldum's inability to control its own telepathic powers, often overflowing onto nearby minds without the aid of a superior psychic stabilizer.
The Beldum followed Jack through the streets of Figg City. The tension was rising and people were leaving the country, Jack included. Route 7 was probably his best bet. Route 8 had the advantage of being the most direct way to Harbarus Town, meaning it would be the most crowded one. Route 7, was still a solid option with little obstacles on the way to the next city, something that suited Jack just fine. With no objections (not like the Beldum could object), he went forward with his plan and headed towards the gate separating the city from the route.
Location change; Route 7
...bad news has wings.

Hikaru Valingrad Stormblade
Current Location: Professor Jayston's Lab
Hikaru arrives at Professor Jayston's lab around midday. After he manages to catch his breath from running for so long, he enters the lab to find that nobody is there. Exhausted, he decides to rest out front. As he sits down to regain his breath, he pulls out the apple he had brought with him to eat. Before he even takes a bite out of it, he decides to let Larvitar out of its ball to see if it wanted a piece of the apple to eat. Rummaging through his pockets to see which one he stuffed the ball in, he eventually discovers it in the left pocket that was inside of his trenchcoat. He pulls it out and taps the release button on the ball. With a bright flash of light landing on the ground, Larvitar appears from the light as it disperses. After several moments, it begins to look around in the new environment that was much different from its natural habitat, which is usually in rocky or mountain areas. It pays little mind to Hikaru as it explores the front garden of the professors lab. Hikaru takes a bite of the apple and almost immediately does larvitar give Hikaru its full attention. Rushing up to Hikaru, Larvitar begins to paw at Hikaru's leg. With large eyes and full attention focused on Hikaru, Hikaru could tell from just a glance that Larvitar was very hungry.
"Hey little one, when was the last time you got to eat?"
Hikaru expected some sort of response from Larvitar but he didn't respond, continuing to stare at the apple that Hikaru was holding. Hikaru pulled out a small pocket knife which he always carried around for general applicative reasons and cut the apple in half. He gave one half of the apple to Larvitar which he ate in a matter of moments. It was clearly obvious at that point that he had not eaten anything in a while. Hikaru split off half of his piece and shared it with Larvitar, which he ate at a much slower pace than the other apple piece which he was given. Hikaru takes several small bites out of his small apple piece before he finishes it in one large bite. As Hikaru finished his piece, he looked down at Larvitar, who was still looking at him attentively, expecting more food.
"You're still pretty hungry im guessing. Lets go inside so we can get you some proper food."
He got up and opened the door to the lab. Looking back at Larvitar, he motioned for him to come in. Reluctant at first, Larvitar eventually followed Hikaru and entered the lab.
Hikaru enters the lab's kitchen, which he searches through the fridge for food. He finds several Citrus berry's and a few dozen Oran berry's. He takes several of the Citrus berry's for himself and grabs six for Larvitar. He then puts the Oran berry's in a small bowl for Larvitar and sets it on the ground in front of him.
As Hikaru munches on one of the citrus berry's, he enters professor Jayston's office and begins to look through some of the books and note's on professor Jayston's desk which managed to catch Hikaru's attention. There was a letter for the professor from a high ranking Volothas military officer which Hikaru had never heard of. The letter was a request for the professor to come back to develop weapons and defensive military technology. Then there was a regional survey of the natural pokemon population of the Volothas region. It seems that there is a massive decrease in the natural population for some unknown reason and the report indicates to the fact that the weaker pokemon have fled the region while the stronger and more vicious pokemon have stayed in their natural habitats. Then there was an aged, weathered book about how pokemon in different regions can be stronger or weaker even though they are the same species, based on natural environmental factors.

Hikaru Valingrad Stormblade
Current Location: Professor Jayston's Lab
As Hikaru finished the last of the Citrus berry's, He heard someone come in through the front door of the lab. He went to see who it was and it was the professor who had finally managed to show up. Hikaru thought to himself that he was probably out in the field performing a local population survey of both people and pokemon in the city, Hikaru brushed that thought aside though and greeted the professor.
"Hello professor, I hope youre doing well."
"Ah, Hikaru. I didn't think you would be coming in today. In fact, I thought you would have fled the country by now like the rest of the populace."
The professor pulled off his lab coat and hung it on the coat rack next to the door.
"Unlike them, I see no reason to leave. This is our homeland, and we should be willing to fight for it if we are called upon."
The professor turn's to Hikaru and hands him a letter, but before of letting go of the letter, he looks Hikaru in the face and says "Hikaru, fighting for your country is all well and good but youre fighting will mean nothing if you fight without a cause, because if you die in battle then your death would have been meaningless. If you must fight, fight for what you believe in rather than fighting because the government demands it to protect their personal or corporate interests. I learned that when I was once young like you, because I lost many friends to the weapons I made that I thought would help to protect them and the people who lived in Volothas, but the weapons that I made to protect them, were stolen and used to kill many of them."
As the professor let go of the letter, Hikaru was left speechless for a moment, but took the professors word's to heart as they had great meaning behind them.
"Um, professor. What is this letter for?"
"Come with me to my office. I have several tasks I need you to do."
But before either of them could go into his office, the professor saw Hikaru's Larvitar, Sleeping in the corner of the room on a pile of blankets which Larvitar was stretched out on. Clearly, he was very comfortable where he was.
"Is that your pokemon over there?"
"Yes professor. I got it as a gift from my father who finally managed to send a letter to me."
"Interesting, Larvitar's in this region have become extremely rare, you better take good care of it."
As they both sit down, Professor Jayston pulls up a video on the monitor behind him. As he plays the video, it shows of a someone who looks like a human but more like a monster instead. Wrapped in complete black and extremely tall, he wielded what looked like a sword in his right hand and his left arm was transformed into a thick-skinned claw. His eyes were crimson red and he wore a wicked expression of someone who looked borderline insane. The video showed him cutting down an entire division of Volothas Soldiers and Pokemon with a mixture of what looked like pokemon moves and extremely powerful swordsmanship. The video was clearly recorded in a first person format by one of the soldiers who had ran away when the situation turned very dire when about halfway through the video, half of the division was destroyed.
"The division that you just saw was an elite troop within the Volothas Armed Force's, and they were all cut down and wiped out in less than ten minutes by a single being. High ranking officials within the military have deemed this being to be a new species of an extremely vicious and violent pokemon and they have asked us to follow up and confirm if it is. Unfortunately, I cannot go to see if this is indeed a new pokemon or not, so that is why im asking you to go in my stead. That is the first task I ask of you. The second is that you deliver the letter I gave you to a courier in Harbarus town."
"May I ask whats in the letter?"
"I cant. The letter concerns critical research findings that I need to pass on to the professors in the other regions."
"Okay, well what about the pokemon that I need to look out for? Do you know where it was last seen?"
"I cant tell you that either. Not because I wont but because the Volothas officials wouldn't reveal to me were the video was taken. If you want a general place to start looking then I would try to follow up rumors and lead's near the seaside towns and whatnot. Its were I would start."
"Okay, I should get going then. If it's going to be a long journey like you say then I need to be prepared for a lengthy journey."
As Hikaru got up, he pulled out Larvitars Ultra ball and called him back into it, then put the Ultra ball back into his trenchcoat's pocket.
"Oh, Hikaru. Several more things before you go. This journey will be extremely long. Both you and youre pokemon will need to become very powerful if you hope to stand up against this terribly strong opponent, so I decided that since your going in my stead, I will fund your expenses for the journey."
The professor pulls out a card of some sort and give's it to Hikaru.
"This is a special card that the Volothas government issue's to all professors for research expenses. Show this to any store clerk in the Volothas region and they will send any expenses you might rack up to the government for them to pay."
Holding the card, Hikaru realizes that this will be his first adventure he will ever get to go on, to finally be able to explore the region outside of Figg city, all thanks to the professors kindness.
"Get going now, you need to leave as soon as possible."
"Yes professor, I shall immediately see to the preparations for my departure and leave as soon as I am ready."
"Also, one last thing. Nobody must know about the pokemon or assignment i have given you. If it was leaked that an extremely powerful and vicious pokemon was roaming the countryside unchecked, their will be a massive public panic as well as a severe backlash towards the Volothas military for not being able to handle the pokemon."
"Yes, professor. I will make sure that nobody hears of its existence. Well, im off to prepare for the journey."
Hikaru, rushes out of the professors lab before the professor could get up to see him off properly. But as the sound of Hikaru's running footsteps eventually vacate the area, the professor looks outside of the window in his office and stares at the vacant streets of the city.
"Why do I get the feeling I just sent Hikaru off to his death..."
The professor bury's his head into his hand's, Extremely worried what will happen to Hikaru in the future.

Hikaru Valingrad Stormblade
Current Location: In Figg city's gateway park
After Hikaru left professor Jayston's lab, he went to the department store to pick up some items he would need for the journey, such as potions, medicine and a set of several dozen poke balls. The standard prices for these commodities though have massively spiked in price since the stockpiling and national rationing of the supplies had started. A single standard pokeball now costs ten times more than usual, thus most trainers would have to skip out on such expenses and journey forward. The prices though didn't phase Hikaru as he had funding behind him. After he arrived at the Department Store, he purchased a set of ten pokeballs, a few revive's and healing potions as he intended to do some major training on his way to Haraborus town. Though local news states that the shortest route to the town has been jammed up with civilian traffic, Hikaru decided to take the long route along the North Eastern coast of Volothas. Generally, if that new pokemon had any intelligence, it would try and avoid any major traffic area's to keep people from alerting it to its existence as well as endangering itself.
As Hikaru arrived to the Eastern entrance of Figg city, he stopped to take note of the how much the city has degraded with the massive population that left the city to avoid the war. The sun is nearly about to go over the horizon and nightfall will be upon the city soon. Hikaru first notice's how much the area has degraded. The beautiful park that was at the east entrance was now starting to fall apart as trash had been littered all about it. The city streets, once buzzing with activity during the night, were now desolated. Modern Civilization was physically crumbling apart in Figg city as more and more people abandoned the city for a new land each day, but in a way, the land was returning to nature the way it should have been. At the rate that the city was giving away, it would only be a matter of years before nature started its return to this human built environment. In a way, Hikaru enjoyed the thought of the city being destroyed and returning to its natural habitat as many pokemon used to live upon the land that the city was built over. As the sun set, Hikaru gazed at it for a while, amazed by the sunscape the setting sun created using the crumbling city and the glow of its faint shadows. but as time passed, Hikaru was interrupted when his cellphone started buzzing. He pulls it out of one of his trenchcoat's many pockets and looks to see who was calling him. It was Elise, most likely calling to see where Hikaru was as it was extremely late and way after Hikaru should have gotten back to the castle by now... thats if he wasnt about to set off on his journey. Hikaru lets the call through and puts it up to his ear.
Elise almost in a panicked tone yet somewhat teasing tone. "Liiiiight~, Where are youuuuu~? It's nearly nightfall and you haven't come home yet."
"I wont be coming home for a while Elise, Ive been given several important tasks to accomplish by the professor."
"Awww... So what is he sending you off to do this time? grab his slippers from the pokemon center because he forgot them again?"
Hikaru chuckled slightly to himself, finding the joke slightly amusing since professor Jayston was pretty old in the first place. "No, he sending me off to find pokemon that have become increasingly rare in the Volothas region and to deliver a letter to a courier in Haraborus town." Hikaru couldn't tell her about the new vicious pokemon that professor Jayston told Hikaru to find. She would just follow him if he did so he had to play it off as some random chore the professor needed Hikaru to accomplish.
"Well at least you could have told me you were leaving. I would be able to come with you then and help you."
"And do what? Frolic and sing to your hearts content about the open road and the wonders of nature while annoying me constantly? I doubt you even know a thing about pokemon."
"I do to know stuff about pokemon!" she said in a slightly angry but in a squeaky tone of voice. "When i was younger and lived in Kalos, I was a pokemon trainer and a really strong one at that!"
"Yes, Yes. I know all about how you were the pokemon champion for a short time before you were replaced by that... whats her name? All I know though is that she was some movie star or an actress. Something along those line's."
She sighs deeply, but regains composure after a moment. "Well at least call me when you can. How am I supposed to sleep at night when you might be dead for all I know." She says very dramatically as if she would be distressed and lost without Hikaru there.
"You will be fine. Listen, Ive got to go. there is alot of ground that I need to cover before I can rest for the night and resume my journey in the morning." Hikaru quickly hangs up the phone before Elise could say another word. Thanking that the conversation didn't turn out the way he thought it would, he puts the phone back in his pocket. He looks out back at the sun which has clearly almost dissipated from view then departs from the city, going forward to route 1.

Hikaru Valingrad Stormblade
Current Location: route 1.
Several days have passed since Hikaru left Figg city. The roads going east on route 1 were plain's and spots of grouped tree's where most of the pokemon took cover from the sun's heat as well as where the pidgey nested. The area was noticeably empty as many of the people who were fleeing the east coast had already fled long before the situation in Volothas turned dire. The streams were calm and abundant with fish life, as every now and then, Hikaru would go in, catch one of the smaller fish then kill and eat it as well as feed larvitar. There were law's in place to prevent the unsupervised killing of the wildlife in Volothas but almost all the police had been drafted into the military and there were very few to patrol outside of the towns and city's. As a result, poaching has become popular of the people of Volothas who have fled into the wild and have been waiting for the Volothas government's military to fall and the country to be invaded by the Korvask Armed Force's. They wanted to be as far away as possible from the war or not involved entirely as most of the citizen's disapprove of the conflict.
As Hikaru walked down the long road, Larvitar was walking casually beside him. Larvitar has still not said a word to Hikaru or even let out a sound. Hikaru though had for the past few days, established a form of communication between them. It was clear that Larvitar was not a very talkative pokemon, so Hikaru decided to speak with motions and gestures rather than word's. Larvitar was responsive enough but Hikaru wished he could talk to him at the very least. It would make communication alot smoother.
Hikaru and Larvitar have been following a river that lead's east to Daffon Town. A place that was said to be a critical naval base to both the old Volothas Kingdom and the New "False Democracy" of Volothas. Near the river was a small tree with a great shaded spot that Hikaru could sit down at and relax for a while. He still had leftovers from their last meal and he was feeling a bit peckish, deciding to eat there, he motioned Larvitar to the tree over there. Larvitar followed him in suit and after they reached the tree, Larvitar ran down next to the river to play with and attempt to catch the fish pokemon swimming around in the very shallow water. Hikaru sat down and pulled out a small box, which he took out the remains of the fish that he had caught many mile's back and began to eat on them. Occasionally tossing a few pieces to Larvitar and some of the fish pokemon. As Hikaru finally finished the remains of the fish in just a few minute's. He put away the box which he had stored the fish in into the back of one of his much larger pockets. Still not feeling like proceeding with his journey, Hikaru decides to relax for a bit longer. Leaning back, He lied down on the grass and looked up into the sky, occasionally glancing back to larvitar to make sure he was okay.
Hikaru finally realizes why he didn't want to leave the country. It was because the land itself was beautiful. Hikaru fondly remembered the days when his family was Prominent in the Volothas region, then there was that terrible civil war... A war which stripped the Volothas region of its Historical pride as well as it's very good relationship with Korvask. Our pride and heritage was overthrown in favor of Imperialistic democracy brought about by foreigners with immeasurable greed and little care for human and natural life. This war rage's because the foreign government which was established by the foreigners who came to this land in search for a new life, got too greedy and began expanding along their borders. With them instigating the first conflict against Korvask, they invaded and began pillaging their city's, Invading homes and stealing private property, all under the guise of liberating them from an "Evil Dictatorship." What was so evil about the Korvask regions government? There people were happy and satisfied with their peaceful and daily lives. Most of their population had job's and they had a good standard of living. Their government was very fair to their people and even let the local population run their own town government. That all changed though when the "False Democratic government" of Volothas attempted their first expansion into foreign land. The Korvask government changed dramatically during the first few weeks of the first war. They attempted to reason with the foreign ran government of Volothas but they never listened, so they took drastic action's. The korvask government couldn't martial enough forces to halt the massive army's that had in less then a few week's, flooded and conquered 1/3rd of the Korvask region. So they called upon they aid of the UR or United Region's, a Union of Kanto, Jhoto, Unova, Kalos, Sinnoh & Hoenn regions for military aid. Within half a month, the tide's of the invasion had turned against Volothas as they were quickly halted by the massive force that the UR deployed. This led to a stalemate that lasted for a year and a half and wouldn't end till the Volothas army's finally broke and began to fall and lose conquered territory. By the time that the war ended, the Volothas region had not only lost its conquered territory, but were also forced to pay the reparation fee's that were brought about by their reckless behavior. The Korvask region though had changed dramatically, they had become tyrannical towards everyone who was in, part or had lived in Volothas. Going so far as to hunt down and wipe out entire people from Volothas who had immigrated out of the country. The korvask didn't care if they were native or foreign, but they had suffered greatly at the hands of the Volothas region, so they struck out at anyone from their, regardless of their background or roots in the Volothas region.
But as time passed, Hikaru was wondering how he knew what went on during the revolution and ousting of the old government and the rise of the new "False Democracy." As Hikaru tried to remember, it was all blurry and fragmented to him. The harder he thought about it, the more hazy everything had become to him. It was like he was slipping out of the known conscious world and into a realm where fantasy was reality and reality was fantasy, everything became distorted and blurred.
Hikarus focus was interrupted by the sound of a distant explosion and the sound of gunshots ringing out. As Hikaru turned his head in the general direction of the noise, He saw several large smoke columns much farther down route 2.
"What the?..." Greatly puzzled, Hikaru thought that the Korvask region wouldn't invade the region until many month's from now. It clearly wasnt the Korvask region invading though as the sound of fighter jets or the cloud trails that they would leave behind were not present in the sky. Pulling out Larvitars Ultra ball, Hikaru call's Larvitar back and then rush's off towards the smoke columns, determined to figure out what was going on.
A sword drawn keeps another in the sheath.

David and Phantasma stopped to rest by a wall of rocks. Phantasma stood on top of the wall, treating the world to a dramatic pose in front of a striking landscape. David chuckled at the sight of this. Even now, with dark times falling upon the Volothas region, Phantasma stayed true to the actor within him, having fun and treating this journey as if it were nothing more than an adventure faced by fictional characters in a film.
"I've gotta admire you for still having spirit in times like this." David praised.
"Times like this? The times are fine." Phantasma said to David, who raised an eyebrow. "Things need to get worse before they get better. It's called good narrative. You make things look like they'll never get any better, the climax happens and then suddenly there's a happy ending... although sometimes there are sad endings. Maybe comparing this to the art of fiction wasn't the best idea."
David joined Phantasma on top of the wall of rocks. "Don't be absurd. There's nothing wrong with remaining cheerful in dark times. Hope can be painful because you're scared to hold onto it in case it's crushed, but when you dare to cling onto that hope, it can get you through the worst of times."
"That sounds like something a heroic character would say in a movie... or an audio drama." Phantasma pointed out.
"Hey you!" A nearby hiker called. "It has started! My god, it has started!"
"What do you mean?" asked David.
"The president is dead. The new one was just appointed. Not elected, just appointed like that! Some guy I've never even heard of before. He declared war on Korvask! We're all gonna die!"
The hiker ran away, leaving the two adventurers no time to react what he had just told them.
"The president... is dead? Some plot twist..." Phantasma breathed.
"If that hiker is to be believed, then yes." David replied. "Now we keep going. We hope. Let's go into Dark Tunnel right now, one step closer to Harbarus Town. We're going to survive this."
Phantasma nodded and the two went into Dark Tunnel, not knowing what the future had in store for them, but hoping against hope that it would all turn out fine.
