Garbage lines the streets from years of neglect and the only light provided comes from the full moon shining from above. You shake your head, saddened at the dismal state of the once beautiful city. A scrap of paper blows through the air. You catch it swiftly in one hand, taking care not to tear it. The words are faded with age, though the date is less than half a decade ago. The first few lines snag your attention and you find a nice spot to sit down and read, wondering what this could mean. April 1st, 2009 Somewhere in Unova Alright, this is the worst April Fool’s day joke in the history of April Fool’s day jokes. Real funny guys, real funny. It all started like any normal day would. I got a call from work saying they found a new site to dig and they want me to come in to work immediately. I get to the office after enduring Veilstone’s horrible traffic to find a manila folder on my desk. Inside were a ticket for a one-way flight to Mistrailton City Unova, pictures of some old runes and statues, some official looking memos that did not interest me in the slightest and a map of Mistrailton City and the surrounding area. Imagine my surprise when, instead of the beautiful pictures of archaeological dig sites and glorious ruins, I find a big sand pit and two scraggly workers who’ve never lifted a finger in their lives. But, I bet you planned this, my curiosity got the best of me and I had to start working. It was hard work, bet you planned that too, and for days we found nothing. And we— From here the page is too faded to read. You sigh, disappointed, and stand up, pocketing the page and continuing through the abandoned city. A few days later, you arrive at your destination. People bustle about, ignoring you for the most part. Then something catches your eye. A scrap of paper, quite similar to the one you found earlier, flutters down an alley between two large buildings. Acting purely on impulse, you chase after it, finding that this one holds much more information than the last. April 9th, 2009 Unova ruins Forget about April Fool’s jokes! This is simply incredible! A few days into digging, one of the workers, Carson, found an odd stone buried in the sand. Upon further investigation, it turned out to be part of an ancient temple! Imagine the possibilities! When we uncovered the entrance, it took a bit of work to get inside. But boy was it worth it. This place is just full of undiscovered history! Why, this is the kind of career making discovery that makes people famous! This will be all over the news! The media will have a field day! I’m going to become a legend! Wilson, the other worker assigned to this site, has been showing an oddly enthusiastic interest in this site lately. At first he nearly refused to do any work, saying it was “a waste of time to dig in this sandbox,” but now he’s refusing to do anything but work! I should be concerned with this strange change in behavior, but I just can’t focus on anything else at the moment! This is a true discovery! ~ * ~ April 11th, 2009 (or something like that…) Inside the ruins I’m simply amazed at the architecture of this building. How it has held up for so long under such conditions is beyond me. Wilson and Carson have been poking around the ruins more and more as we proceed deeper inside, straying off the main hall and looking into many of the inner rooms, most of which have been empty. If I counted right, we have found 18 rooms, 3 of which have had something in them. They seem to be tombs of some sort. Each was decorated in a certain color, with ancient runes unlike any I’ve ever studied lining every wall. I insisted we not disturb anything, but I have a feeling those two are not too keen on taking my advice… ~ * ~ April 14th, 2009 (It’s hard to tell how much time goes by, but that is my guess…) Still inside the ruins… I’m afraid I’ve made a grave mistake in bringing Wilson and Carson here with me. I awoke this morning to find them gone and the three tombs opened and nearly emptied, the only things left being the coffins that contain whoever was buried here. Even odder was what I found on the doors of the 18th room today. Where there had once been indecipherable runes, there are now clear, standard letters forming a most puzzling message. 17 shall be brought forth from the Creator, Scorned by those they were meant to save… Each a— You growl, putting this page with the other one. Nothing else is written on this page. And what are the chances of finding a third, not to mention the one directly following this one? Sighing, you continue on to the Pokémon Center where you drop off your Pokémon, tired from a day of traveling. That line about the 17 coming from the Creator sounds familiar to you, though what it actually means is anyone’s guess. Shrugging your bag off your shoulder, you hear a dull thump as it hits the floor. Before you know it, sleep over takes you and you forget completely about the mysterious pages that have crossed your path. 17… Why does that number ring a bell…? It can’t have any connection to you… Can it? --- Okay, as a little foreword, I would like to say that, unless this is actually successful, this is the last role play I will be creating. It might be a little complicated, so please, stay with me. There will be a maximum of 17 members in this role play, myself included, one for each Pokemon type, give or take a few if people decide not to be patrons. This will be on a first come, first served basis, so if someone else chose the type you wanted, pick another. If you complain to me or ask for an exception, you won't be allowed to be a patron. I really don't want to put up with that. Now, on to explanations. Woo. Patrons What are they and why are they here? Simply put, a patron is the embodiment of one of the 17 Pokemon types, sent by Arceus to Earth as a gift to the people inhabiting said planet. The original patrons were sent hundreds of years ago, but their offspring are still present in the world today. There still remain only one patron for each type. A patron is not the same as a gijinka, as they represent a type as a whole, but their appearance can say a lot about which type they are. They can use any Pokemon move of their type, so a Psychic type patron can use Psychic, a Water type patron can use Water Gun, etc. But, these abilities are not to be misused, lest you invoke the wrath of Arceus. A patron's abilities will not be revealed until the previous patron of that type dies. At that moment, your powers will be revealed to you in a form of claiming from the Alpha Pokemon, whether he deems it necessary to tell you in person or whether you find out when you melt into a puddle of water at your cousin's pool party then started glowing blue and convince everyone you are an alien Whether you are accepted into society or not depends on the people making up society. Some generations have been accepting and have welcomed Arceus' gift to mankind, others have tried to hunt them to the death. Whether or not society knows who you are is up to you. Today, the regions are torn apart in whether or not they will accept the patrons. Some of you will be chased from your home by angry townspeople when it is discovered who you are, others will be welcomed and week-long celebrations will be held in your honor. But the one thing Arceus forbid was direct contact between himself and the patrons. Once you have been claimed it is forbidden for you to physically meet with the deity. You are still allowed to speak, but any meeting with Arceus was strictly prohibited. --- Non-Patrons So what the heck am I supposed to do? Non-patrons have three options in life regarding the patrons. 1. Go on living a normal life completely naive to the 17 special gifts Arceus bestowed upon his people. Why bother yourself with things that don't concern you, am I right? Some of you may not even know about them until the day you die. 2. Support the patrons. Those who are accepting of them will try to protect the patrons from the hunters who seek their destruction. Note that this will put you at risk as well. Anyone allied with the patrons may as well be a patron themselves to the hunters. So make sure you choose your side wisely. 3. Hunt the patrons to their deaths. Not everyone can be a hunter! You have devoted your life to the downfall of Arceus' "gift" or at least support those who have. You hate the patrons with a fiery passion, some because of generations of hate passed down through the family, some for personal reasons and some just because they think the patrons are weird. By far the safest group of non-patrons to join. Rules Alas, we have them... -No godmodding. Just because you are sent from the heavens above does not make you invincible. Be reasonable! -Building on that, Gym battles. Yes, this will also be a journey role play as well, I mean come on, non-patrons need a purpose too. And some patrons take the risk of being trainers and coordinators. Anyway, the actual rule: please make your Gym and Contest battle believable. Don't say, "Gardenia sent out Roserade, I sent out Chimchar. Chimchar used Ember, Roserade fainted, I got the Forest Badge." (or whatever it's actually called...) Gym Leaders build strategy to beat type weaknesses. Include them. --Now I know some people post on mobile and there are limits but break up your posts or something if you must. -Put Frogs in your PM title to prove you read these. -One character's perspective per member please. You may have NPCs if you wish but you can only write through one person's eyes, or put your main focus on one person if writing in third person. -Ask people before using their characters. Keep people's characters in character. Don't have the quiet, secluded person bubbling over with joy when recruiting them as your traveling partner, I beg of you. -No legendaries, yet. I may change my mind later, maybe. Emphasis on maybe. -No gijinkas, the whole point of this is to be a patron, which is like the ultimate gijinka, or not. -I know I might actually want to include canon characters, so go crazy (not literally) but keep them in character. -Not really a rule, but we are in Sinnoh! I am tired of all the Unova role plays popping up. I like Sinnoh, so we're in Sinnoh. You can come from another region, but the main story will take place in actual Sinnoh. --Now the actual rule. No moving the entire role play to another region. Kay, thanks. Rules will be edited as I see fit. Notifs will go out if I do. Enforcement Policy Punishment will be in order for rule breaking. Remember that wrath of Arceus mentioned above...? Some of you may be familiar with my system, some may not be, so here is a little refresher for you all. I will have a list of members in the role play. Names will be color-coded. If a rule is broken, your name will be the appropriate color and I or another person, whom I will choose, who is helping me enforce these rules will PM you informing you of your rule-breaking. There is no plea bargaining, so don't even try to question it. I try to be fair, taking both sides into account, but my decisions, unless direct proof can be given why it should not be, are final. Uncolored-- You've done nothing wrong, continue as usual. Yellow-- One rule broken, this is your warning. Orange-- Two rules broken, three day ban. Red-- Three rules broken, one week ban. Blue-- Four rules broken, permanent ban. Now here's a little tweak that will be added. Underlined-- Ban still withstanding. Not underlined-- Ban no longer withstanding, merely colored for reference. She dresses like a Goth, donning fishnets and spiked bracelets (They are her signature) She is lanky, taller than most other people, and never wears makeup. Her hair is black, short, and choppy, with bright silver highlights. Selene has silver eyes that seem to glow when light is reflected onto them, and she has amblyopia. (Lazy eye) She doesn't usually smile, and when she does, the other person is impressive. Personality: Selene has a cold and bitter exterior. She doesn't let others into her personal matters easily, and doesn't quickly back down in the face of danger. Although she is honestly brave and cold, she is a confused and not very confident teenager. She often acts like a punk, and her punk image is reinforced by the fact that she is often found either listening to bands such as the Sex Pistols or The Offspring or found playing her electric guitar. Role: She is a trainer; her main aspiration is to be the Champion of Sinnoh. This wish comes from her desire to prove certain people wrong. Patron: Yup Side: Supportive (Patron) History: (Pfft . . I'm choosing to add drama to this. Mwahaha, I enjoy making my OC's suffer!) Selene was born in Jubilife City to Katrina and Leaves Kage, two drug addicts. (Yup, drugs in Pokemon ) Her father died when she was six, and her mother developed emotional problems, resulting in Katrina's anger being taken out on her only daughter. Selene was also mocked and ridiculed in school, the most common insult being "You'll never amount to anything!" hence her goal. Soon enough, people became suspicious of Katrina's actions, and Selene was put into foster care at the age of nine. She was soon adopted by a young couple of newlyweds, Sandra and Hunter Rivers, after they realized that they could not have children. Her adoption caused her to have to move to Celestic Town, almost the opposite of her previous home. Selene has never accepted the fact that she was adopted by them and protests this constantly, the most obvious example of this being that she kept her original surname, Kage. She wears black mostly, the typical uniform of the Hunters of Snowpoint when they aren't in the field. All their clothes are black. Because it means they cannot run away. Personality: She is a cold person, ungiven to fits of temper or to displays of passiom=n. She is often described as icy when dealing with other people, unafraid to display any disdain she may have for them. Role: Assassin Patron: Yes, but no one is aware of this yet. Side: Will become supportive and repentant of what she currently does, but for now, she's non-supportive History: Storm has been trained from birth to kill. She took her first life at the age of 13, when she was chosen to be a member of a squad leading an attack on a settlement of Patron supporters, and killed a man who had been looting a house that her squadmates had already cleared. When the leaders heard of the kill she had performed, Storm was selected for special training as an assassin, which she completed last year. Type: Ice, but has not discovered this yet. He mainly travels with his pokemon charming girls and pissing people off. Patron: Yes Side: Supportive, but he honestly doesn't care. History: Jacob was raised by two rich parents and always had whatever he wanted. He discovered he was a patron at the age of 13, and his parents always covered up after him so no one found out. When he was 14, he ran away, bored with his life. Jacob now travels Sinnoh to find something interesting, and of course find girls! If you're looking for a reason why he is cocky, you aren't going to find it, as he's just one of those people who likes to act like that. He prefers to be distant from people and has very few friends but is very protective of them. Role: Is a pokémon trainer but taking down patron hunters is always at the top of his to do list. Patron: No Side: Supportive History: His parents were captured and killed by the hunters for helping the patrons when he was only seven. And Roark had been pretty cool too. Nice to know that there are some people still on our side. Night had fallen just before I arrived in town, so the few stars still visible through all the light pollution were shining as brightly as they could muster. It was a nice sight, but I had bigger things on my mind. So... the next closest Gym would be in Eterna City. And I heard from someone that Gardenia was not the nicest person around... "Al--Altar?" Altaria crooned, landing beside me, and looking up at me with curious eyes. "Oh, nothing Altaria, just... thinking..." Altaria cocked her head but said no more. "Anyway, we should probably get a room for the night. Not a good idea to stay out here for too long..." So over to the Pokemon Center it was. You know, it feels real nice to walk into what is supposed to be a friendly building for all trainers and see a poster calling for your immediate capture and execution the second you do walk in. Really warms your heart. "Um, excuse me, may I have a room for the night?" I asked Nurse Joy when I had approached the front desk. Altaria was in her Pokeball, resting after the long journey from Oreburg back to Jubilife. I could have gone straight from Oreburgh to Eterna, but the route there was closed. Figures. "Of course, I'll get you a room key. Just one moment, please." I stood at the front desk, waiting, while trying to avoid the urge to listen in on the conversations around me. "Hey, what do you think about all this 'patron' stuff?" "Pretty freaky if you ask me." "I say it's a joke. Gift from Arceus my--" "Hey, they give you a pretty good reward for turning one in. I say let them pretend all they want." "I think they might actually be real." "You sayin' you like 'em?" "No, of course not. They don't belong here, let them go stay with the Pokemon. They're more Pokemon than human if you ask me." Great, Jubilife hates me too. Oreburg had been much nicer. It took all my concentration not to lose my temper. I don't think they would enjoy me busting out Dragon Claw and beating them into next week. No, that wouldn't be smart. "Miss, here is a room key. Just down the hall, on the left. Enjoy your stay." I took the key, nodding at Nurse Joy before walking towards the hall in question. Once in the solidarity of my own room, I let Altaria out. "We leave first thing tomorrow morning. It isn't safe here. 	"Flaaaare." The flareon whined slightly, clinging to her trainer's shoulder. One thing was for certain, she hated the almost constant boat rides she'd been on. "Well, I did ask you if you wanted to go back in your pokeball." Aria commented. They had docked a night ago in Canalave and were already leaving the port city. Rumors had been circling about the patrons, but she still knew very little about them. She stared into the ocean, lost in thought, until she felt a paw batting at her face. She looked over at Flareon, who gave her a puzzled look. "Flare?" Aria sighed, turning back to her room. Surely not everyone in Sinnoh would seem so hostile. After all, it wasn't like anyone knew... Sneasel had let himself out of his pokeball and was asleep on her bed when she walked in. She checked on the egg her mother had given her before she left. Sinnoh would be different. It was a whole new place, nobody knew her there. 	Sunlight glistened through the thick canopy of Eterna Forest. As grass types wandered through the botanical labyrinth, a lone figure rested on a branch of a large tree, out of sight of the beaten path. That lone figure was me. My name, you ask? Shin'ichi Ideka. 	I have returned! The play is over! I am free to post as I wish! So I will do just that. Hope you don't have anything planned for the few hours left in the last day because I would like to keep this moving for now. I don't want it to die. --- Sunrise came much too quickly for my liking. But I had to get out of Jubilife. Maybe I could skip the Eterna City Gym altogether. There were other gyms out there, why not battle one that didn't want me dead? No, that would be the easy way out. I could handle Gardenia, then I would be that much closer to Celestic. I had to get to Celestic. "Alright Altaria, you ready?" I whispered to my Dragon type, perching on the end of my bed. Altaria nodded, spreading her wings out and stretching before taking flight. I silently slipped out of my room, closing the door soundlessly behind me. Jubilife was quiet in the morning, much to my liking. The fewer people that knew I was there, the better. Once out of the city, I relaxed a little. I hadn't seen any of the Hunters since the route between Twinleaf and Sandgem. Even then I barely escaped. Just goes to show what happens when something stronger than the average human being shows up in the world. Humans are power hungry fools in my opinion, always trying to be the superior being. They are so blind to the big picture, it's almost frightening. 	Aria found herself walking out of Jubilife nearly as soon as she'd entered it. Her second town she'd seen, and everyone was so cold. She'd fended off a few bikers who asked far too many questions (or rather, flareon had) and was already tired. "Maybe the boat wasn't a restful night' sleep..." "We don't know why you're here, but we don't want you here!" She turned just in time to duck a rock thrown at her. "FLARE!" Flareon jumped down and took a few steps forward. Welcome to Sinnoh... She was in a strange place with strange people and was already wishing she'd chosen to go somewhere else. "Flaaare." She picked up her flareon, hurrying away from the buildings. 	The forest was quiet, except for the occasional Pokemon cry, as I laid on the branch, pondering of how the other partons would survive. Despite of the friendy and safe towns, there was still some hostillity twoard the partons in other areas. 'This has gotten ridiculous.' I thought to myself. 'Some of these people wouldn't know Arceus' true intentions if it knocked them to kingdom come.' I was cut off shortly when I heard footsteps approaching. A girl with violet hair and black clothes was passing through with her Altaria. I knew from just looking at her, just by her appearence, that she was a fellow parton. 	I just realized that we completely bypassed Floaroma Town... Whatever, I can work with it. --- Eterna Forest was fairly peaceful on the southwestern side, but I knew already that the northwestern side would be crawling with Hunters. For now I was still safe. For now... I was just beginning to think I was alone when someone jumped down from a tree just a few meters in front of me. I jumped back, taking on a battle stance, while Altaria growled at the newcomer. He had blue hair and strangely resembled a video game character from some game I used to play before finding out I was a Patron. Then the games got boring and I liked fighting for real. "Wait! I'm not trying to attack you! I'm a Patron too!" the person said, holding his hands up in surrender. I scoffed at him, nodding at Altaria. My Dragon type readied a pink and yellow beam in her mouth, ready to fire at a moment's notice. "Prove it." He shrugged and formed a blue, glowing sphere between his palms. Aura Sphere. I readied Dragon Claw, holding up one hand in greeting. "Arceus be with you." The boy nodded, cancelling out his attack. I did the same. "So, Dragon type, huh?" he asked. I nodded. "Yeah. Just found out a little while ago too. You got Fighting I see," I said, glancing around nervously. "You bet! Best type ever!" "Keep it down! Eterna City is within a mile away and this forest should be crawling with Hunters out to kill us!" I hissed, shooting him a sharp glare. "What's your name?" "Shin'ichi." "Astoria." "Well, Astoria, what are you so worried about? So a bunch of guys want us dead, it's not like they could actually kill us," Shin'ichi said, grinning. "And that's how you get yourself killed." "Whatever, so you heading on over to Eterna then?" "I was planning on getting the Gym Badge if Gardenia doesn't see right through me first. My real goal is Celestic Town." "Why Celestic? Isn't it a little... boring there? I mean, there's nothing there," Shin'ichi said. "Because it's deeply connected to the Creation Trio, who I happen to share a type with and it's important to me. That would be like you wanting to go to the Fighting Dojo in Kanto," I explained, growing deeply annoyed with this guy. "Alright then." 	Aria glanced around as she walked. Are these trees ever going to end? She thought she could hear voices... She had let Noctowl loose half an hour ago and hadn't seen him since. She supposed he was out terrorizing some sort of small pokemon. Sneasel, meanwhile, had let himself out and was happily amusing himself by picking any remotely edible fruit he came across and promptly eating it. Suddenly, her noctowl dived down on her, and she fell with a crash. Her egg's incubator shattered, and Sneasel rushed over, his claws glowing. Aria checked her egg to make sure it was fine as Sneasel and Noctowl began bickering at each other. "Knock it off, you two!" She snapped. Sneasel promptly wandered up a nearby tree as Noctowl landed in another. With a sigh, Aria recalled both of them. It was then that she realized the voices ahead of her had grown silent. I slowly turned to look behind me before following the sound, Shin'ichi right behind me. We found a teenage girl kneeling on the ground, an egg in her arms and broken glass lying all around her. She was checking the egg over, so I assumed she had dropped it. "Who are you?" I asked, eying they girl warily. "Aria, and you?" she said after a moment's hesitation. "Depends," I said, "on if you're a Hunter or not." "Of course I'm not!" Aria said, looking at me in shock. "Why would you think that?" I studied the girl for a minute before deciding on how to introduce myself. "Astoria," I said, holding up three fingers with glowing, purple claws. "Dragon." "Fire," Aria said, nodding to me. Some people don't want us in existence, mostly for reasons we don't know. All we do know is that some people want us dead." Aria seemed to look at me with a look of shock and understanding. Soon the three of us were on the move again. "As I was saying, Astoria, my reasoning is that all the Patrons are at least genetically linked to Arceus. WE are the embodiments of the seventeen elemental types, so Arceus would be able to tell if one or all the Patrons were dead." I said.
