This is a place to get quick bits on the information parts of this story. Simple enough.
Elise- A female contest trainer who already explored Johto to get ribbons. Now she is traveling Johto again to get gym badges because two of her friends bet she couldn’t succeed and she has to prove them wrong.
Sal- A male gym trainer who has had alot of experience under his belt. He and Elise met during her first adventure across Johto. He is her mentor and friend.
Badges- All 8 Johto badges and most likely more, yet that's still unknown
First off, I promise I'll actually update this story and stick with it.
Second Japanese in such a beautiful language so I threw in just a few words which I'll do through the story unless people highly dislike it. But just to clarify, moshi moshi=hello and yoshi= all right! Edit= SleepingNinetails informed me I forgot the i on my words, thank you bro
I always use male lead characters so for once I wanted to go with a female lead
I struggle with titles, especially lately, so if anyone has a better title for me I'd love if you posted/pm'd it. I will give credit if I use your title.
I think thats all that there is to say, enjoy. CC is always welcomed.
I looked around at my familiar surroundings, Violet City. It had been some months since I had been here. Though when I was here I didn’t stay long. For I came as a contest trainer and Violet City doesn’t host contests. But now I had a reason to stay here for a few days. My name is Elise Jackson and I am a pokemon trainer. I started my journey about two months ago. I explored the region of Johto and found an interest in contests along the way. During my adventure I met two boys who started their adventures around the same time as I. We become friends, not the best of friends but still friends. After I partook in the Grand Festival and the boys attempted the Johto League, we meet up again. It was at that meeting where both boys criticized me for taking the easy path, the contest path. This of course, enraged me and rather foolishly I got myself in a bet. The bet was that I couldn’t get all eight Johto Badges in three months time. What was on the line; was my pride. Loosing this bet would show I was a less talented trainer than those two and that would not be accepted. That leads me to where I am now, getting ready for my first badge attempt.
I just stood at the path leading into Violet City, like I had been posed for the past few minutes. It was just a weird feeling, doing an adventure again through places I’ve already been through. I was about to take a step forward when I felt movement in my pack. The pack I had was a pretty large back, a lot of stuff is needed for an adventure. It didn’t help that I brought in my pack something more trainer’s didn’t, a Totodile. I tried carrying it, having it on my shoulder and even on my head. But Totodile enjoyed being in my pack the most. It was something I just had to get used it. Though since Totodile sits in the main pocket I learned to put the food in the side pockets so the little fellow didn’t eat all my rations. Which happened before. He continued to stir in my bag, probably waking up from a nap. I felt a big jolt of movement and hear a loud, gravely “Wa!” Even though I couldn’t see I knew what was happening. Totodile had woken up completely and poked it’s head out of my bright orange bag. Totodile was my starting pokemon I got from Professor Elm. I lived in Cianwood and never expected to get a pokemon from Professor Elm. But my parents surprised me on my 15th birthday with a trip to New Bark town to get a pokemon. Unlike most kids I didn’t have a choice of pokemon, Totodile was the only one left. But I am glad to have him now. He is my best friend. He was one of three pokemon that I brought along with me for my gym challenge. I had a full and great team of six wonderful contest pokemon in my first adventure. But they were contest pokemon, not all of them were gym material. So I brought long the ones I that are best fit for helping me win badges and show the boys up. I left my other three pokemon back with my parents at Cianwood. I felt a foot firmly kicking my back. That was a little stubby Totodile foot.
“Wa, Wa” it chanted and shook around. I was still standing in the same spot in the path to Violet City. Totodile was telling me it was bored and wanted to move forward. I shook my head and felt my bangs rub across my forehead. Black hair with the tips dyed a very bright, sky-blue. I experiment a lot with dying the tips of my hair, this color was one of the best looking. I ran my hand across my straight, black hair to make sure nothing was sticking out. My hair felt perfect. I then placed both of my small, pale hands on my long ponytail in the back of my head. The ponytail was still lined up perfect in the center of the back of my head. The tips of my ponytail was the only other place my hair was dyed. Dyed the same color as my bangs. I wouldn’t call myself vain but I liked to look pretty. It’s a necessity for a contest trainer. During my journey collecting ribbons I made a habit of checking on how I looked. I decided that just feeling to see if my hair was ok wasn’t enough. I reached back to the pocket closest to me to get my brush and mirror. But as I reached back I felt another Totodile kick. I returned my had to my side and let out a long sigh. “What does it matter what I look like right now anyway” I mumbled to myself. I then stretched out my right foot and took my first step in a while. “So we meet again Violet City” I called out as I steadily walked forward. It was middle of the day so there was a good amount of people out and the sun was shining bright. I just looked like one of the many trainers that made their way here, not really standing out too much. I walked around in the nice warm weather. I wasn’t exactly sure where I wanted to go first. I could go straight to the Gym but it felt too soon. It was then that my phone vibrate in my right pocket. It vibrated once more which meant it was a phone call which meant my ring tone was about to follow suite. “The Dream Police, they live inside of my head. The Dream Police….” rang my phone, stopping when I flipped open the device. My phone was royal blue with a thick navy blue outline. It was the standard poke gear flip phone.
“Moshi Moshi” I answered cheerily. I heard the male voice on the other end let out a hearty laugh to my greeting. I already knew from the caller ID who it was but that laugh really gave it away.
“Hey El” the male voice happily replied, still with a hint of laughter.
“It’s good to hear from you Sal, what’s up?” I felt more movement in my pack. I’m assuming Totodile heard Sal’s voice over the phone. I felt the little pokemon completely leave my pack. He climbed onto my shoulder; the same side that I was holding the phone to my ear.
“Wa, Wa!” Totodile called into the phone. Sal let out another deep, hearty laugh.
“Hello to you to Totodile” Sal greeted. “So anyway the reason I called was to just tell you something real quick. Something I forgot to tell you earlier. You’re going to one of the busiest gyms at the busiest time of the day. So you’re going to want to go to the gym as soon as possible and get your name on a waiting list” he kindly informed me.
“Thank you for that advice. I’m already at Violet City so I’ll be sure to head over to the gym. Talk to you later then, take care Sal.”
“Sayonara.” I heard a click on the other line. I closed my phone up and slid it back into my pocket. Sal was one part mentor, one part friend. I met him when I passed through Ecrutek in my original adventure. He is an experienced trainer who occasionally helped me with some training. He really helped me recently though, deciding what pokemon to bring for my gym challenge. With Totodile standing on my shoulder I made my way to the gym to reserve a spot. The gym was rather easy to find, being in the center of town. It was a big, white and brown, round building. There was no roof on it. Made sense since Falkner was the flying gym leader. There was a lot of commotion around the gym; people were constantly exiting and entering. I joined in with the entering crowd. Inside there was a flat dirt field with white chalk marks outlining the battlefield. There were bleachers on both sides of the battle field. And there were people in these bleachers, a good amount of them. I focused back in on my situation and saw I was in a line with two trainers in front of me. We were lined up behind a desk. The trainer at the front picked up a pencil and appeared to write something down. Then he placed the pencil down and walked away from the desk. I assumed were we supposed to write down our information to reserve a spot to battle Falkner. I couldn’t help but raise my head up to look at the battle at hand. Totodile was staring off, not as interested as I. But I needed to watch this, get a footing for a gym battle. I did some training with Sal but training comes no where close to the real thing. On one side was a blue haired trainer who was sending out commands to his Chatot. On the other side of the field, farther away from me, was a smaller, brown haired kid. He was giving out commands to a Koffing on the field. I could tell from each trainer’s posture and presence that the blue haired man was the gym leader Falkner. The pokemon they were using also gave it away. The challenger, as Sal told me they were called, ordered his Koffing to let out a Smokescreen attack. But the black smoke was almost immediately dispersed by a Gust from Chatot. I turned away from the battle as it was my turn at the desk. There was a lady behind the desk in front of me but we didn’t exchange any words. I could tell from the paper and pencil on the desk in front of me what I needed to do. I wrote down my name and phone number and match number. Serelles Jackson, 343-2758, one. I did this as quickly as I could so I didn’t miss a beat of the engrossing battle. But once I finished writing and looked up, Koffing had spiral eyes. With my eagle like eyes I saw a look of defeat on the challenger, that must’ve been his last pokemon.
“Odds are you will be up for battle at about eight o clock tonight. Keep your phone close, we will call you. We appreciate your patience and understanding” the secretary girl cutely informed me. She tilted her head and did a little curtsy as a goodbye.
“Wow” I whispered under my breath. “I have a lot of time to blow then.” I left the gym building with Totodile finding his way back to my pack. I could stay and watch some more battle but I’d rather explore the town a little bit.
After about an hour of exploring Violet City I have decided that I have explored it all and this city is so dang boring. I sat against a tree just on the outskirts up north of the city. My pack, full with Totodile, was off my back and sat right next to me. I still have a lot of time to blow until the gym battle. I already knew who I would use against Falkner. Guess it wouldn’t hurt for the member I know I’m not using to get some out time. I reached onto my belt and grabbed a small red and white poke ball. I held it between my index finger and thumb and it grew into a full size pokemon. I flicked my wrist and emptied the contents of the poke ball. Rose pedals came out and scattered around the green, plant-like pokemon that was there to greet me. It was my beloved Churine. The rose pedals were the seal that I had on Churine’s poke ball. The little grass type jumped at my chest happily. I embraced the pokemon and laughed. Churine was very affectionate. After a big hug I let go and Churine jump back onto the green grass. Her leafs glowed and she sang happily. She was using Synthesis in the bright sun light, it made her feel good.
“Hey Churine” I addressed in a light tone. “Let’s do a little bit of training, I have time to waste.” The happy little pokemon gracefully spun around once. “Yoshi!” I declared excitedly and jumped to my feet. “Churine spin around repeatedly while releasing your Sleep Powder!” Churine took a few quick jumps back so I wasn’t in range of it’s attacks. It moved really fast, well faster than usual. Ah that must mean it’s Chlorophyll ability has been activated by the sun. Churine spun around in place like I asked. It began to admit a light green dust from it’s body. The dust started to take the shape of a cyclone around Churine. That was one of my favorite techniques to use in Contests with Churine, mainly the appeal round. I raised up my right hand and snapped, signaling Churine to stop. I didn’t want it to get dizzy. It made me happy that she still had that technique down perfectly. “Ok that was just a warm up, let’s kick the difficulty up. Magical Leaf: Dance!” Churine knew exactly what I meant. This was yet another move we mastered while collecting ribbons together. Churine summoned a group of green leafs with a mystical purple aura around them. Churine had complete control over the movements of this attack and she moved the leaves sporadically around her. This is where the dance part of my command came in. Since Churine had no opponent to send these leafs at she just danced around with them. She bobbed side to side while doing this technique, that was her little dance. “Ok now, Magical Leaf: Lance!” The rhyming of Dance and Lance was totally not done on purpose but it was a nice touch. Churine moved the leafs tightly together and they formed a long, thin, lance. Churine could use this lance to block or to throw. “Churine throw the lance up and take aim with Energy Ball!” A smile grew on my face. Energy Ball was my favorite move of Churine’s and her favorite move. The little grass pokemon did exactly what I said and when the glowing ball of energy contacted the glowing leaf lance; it exploded and particles of glowing green and purple grass rained down. Churine added a nice touch with a spin and a wink, just like she would’ve in an appeal. I know I need to be more ready for gym battles but the contest side of me will never go away. “Now Churine, one last command. This once is hard, let’s see if you can get it down! Spin repeatedly and release Sleep Power and Magical Leaf.” I put heavy emphasis on the and. Churine started out spinning. She then added in the next step, the Sleep Powder. Like before the light green dust began to form like a cyclone. Churine quickly added in the final step, the Magical Leaf. The purple glowing leafs outlined the Sleep Powder Cyclone. I was amazed Churine kept this up. My amazement sunk a little as the cyclone petered out and there remained a spiral eyed Churine. The combination of using two attacks at once and spinning took too much of a toll on the little pokemon’s stamina. But at least she pulled it off, it would give us something to work on later. I could see that combo getting a use in the gym. Being able to damage and put the foe to sleep is nifty. I pulled out Churine’s poke ball and returned her so she could get a good rest. A yawn came across my face. I hadn’t been sleeping extremely great lately and I had some time to waste. A nap sounded good. But before I fell asleep against the trees I made sure the set the alarm on my poke gear.
It was now seven in the evening and I woke up from my nap just about twenty minutes ago. Back in Violet City and the town has calmed down a lot now. I sat on the concrete close to the channel of water. Totodile was sitting happily in my lap as I was on the phone. My parents were on the other line.
“So honey how is it going being on an adventure again?” my mother curiously asked.
“It’s a weird feeling for sure. I’m still nervous though because I’m partaking in a whole other ball game now. I have my first gym battle in about an hour. Wish me luck” I replied trying to add some of my spunk in my voice. I have a lot of confidence and pride in my pokemon and my skills. But I was still nervous about this gym battle and I tried to hide that the best I could. After talking into the phone I heard a loud purring sound. I knew that purring anywhere. “Hey is that my Persian I hear purring.”
“Yes it is darling” I heard my dad answer. They had me on speaker phone. My Dad’s voice was very cheery. I loved hearing it again, even though it was only like a week since I parted from them to do this adventure again.
“How are my pokemon doing?” It was the first time I’d ever been away from any of my pokemon. My parents were great caretakers but I was still worried how my pals were doing away from me.
“As you can hear from the purring Persian misses you. She is doing the best though. Baniricchi is doing pretty good. We set up the basement with AC to make sure he has a cold place to retreat too if needed. Mantyke is having separation issues but we are giving it a lot of attention. I’ve been taking her down to the water to play and she has been enjoying that. But she cries a lot. Try not to worry about it though. That’s just how young pokemon can be. We have guests coming over soon so we need to get ready for them. It was nice talking to you Ellie.”
“Good luck with your gym battle sweetheart” my dad added in.
“Thanks, goodbye Ma and Pops. I love you!” I closed my phone up. I looked down to see Totodile snoring happily. His legs were twitching, he was dreaming. I felt my heart grow upon seeing this, he was just so cute. I lightly shook him awake. I needed him fully awake for the battle tonight.

I stood across from Falker, right on time at eight. The sun was set and the roof was still open. But it wasn’t dark in the stadium since it was lined with lights that kicked in when the sun went down. The scene was a pretty epic one. I loved Stadium lights, just something about them put me in awe.
“My name is Falkner and I am the Violet City Gym Leader. I am strong and I am the reason many trainers give up their adventure. Because they can’t get past me. Come at me with everything you got, like it will matter much!” he declared.
“Hate to break it you, I won’t be giving up because I won’t be loosing. Totodile, let’s kick some ass!” I shouted. In one quick motion I swiped a ball from my belt and released the pokemon inside it. A plethora of bubbles come out first followed by my little water type spitting up a stream of water like a fountain. Falkner was completely unimpressed by my little entrance. I balled up Totodile just for that. I was so used for trying to make a scene whenever I let a pokemon out on the stage I forgot that this wasn’t a stage, but a field. Still the entrance made Totodile and I both happy so there was no problem with it. I noticed Falkner was a little more than unimpressed.
“You do know Gym Leaders make the first pick right? This must really be your first gym battle, it’s like you know nothing about them. I am tired and I feel no need to drag this one. My best friend will be the only pokemon I need. Pidgeotto you are a go!” Falkner insulted. In a more clunky movement than mine he retrieved a pokemon from his belt and let it out. The brown and tan bird pokemon came out to it’s masters call. It hovered about two feet in the air with it’s wings spread out wide. It looked like it had some experience under it’s wing.
“Totodile start this battle off right with a Water Gun!” I ordered my pokemon. Totodile fired a stream of blue water from it’s mouth.
“Pidgeotto dodge and attack back with Quick Attack!” Falkner quickly countered. Pidgeotto easily moved out of the way and bolted forward at superb speeds. Totodile was hit straight on in the gut. His light body was pushed back right in front of my feet. Pidgeotto flew back to it’s side of the field. I dropped down to my knees and placed my hands on Totodile.
“Buddy are you alright?” I worriedly asked. He wiggled free from my hands and jumped right back on the battle field. “Aqua Jet!” I quickly called out. Totodile spun around on his right foot twice before launching the attack. It was what I always had him do in contests, really added some visual flare to the attack. Adding spins to his Aqua Jet was just a habit, but now it was a hindrance. It took more time to launch and thus gave Falkner’s Pidgeotto time to already charge in with the next attack. It wings were glowing bright and it was heading right at Totodile with speed. Totodile was submersed in water and jet forward leaving a trail of water behind. By the time Totodile picked up speed it met Pidgeotto’s wing. Pidgeotto overpowered my little pokemon and knocked the Aqua Jet covering right off him. Yet another direct hit, this wasn’t looking very good. Totodile landed on his back and slid, tearing up the battle field a little bit. Pidgeotto spread it’s wing wide and hovered in the air over my poor Totodile. Falkner just looked at me with a smirk and flicked the hair out his eyes. He was getting cocky and presenting an opening, what a foolish move. Right as Totodile scrambled to his feet I called out an order. “Let a Water Oath rip!” Totodile has trouble hitting a moving opponent with this move but good thing Pidgeotto was staying still. My water pokemon hopped back so Pidgeotto wasn’t directly above it and a column of water exploded from the ground like a geyser. Pidgeotto was relatively low to the ground and had no time to react. It was hit right in the chest, our first landed hit of the match. “Great job Totodile!” I complimented with a friendly smile. Totodile turned to me and gave me a quick flash of a thumbs up before returning focus to the battle. Pidgeotto was pushed upwards from the attack but caught itself with it’s wings before crash landing with the ground. Yet another opening presented itself. “Now Totodile Water Gun!” The stream of water contacted right with Pidgeotto’s right shoulder. It tried to maintain it’s ground. “Totodile just keep it up!” I encouraged. Pidgeotto was holding it’s own though, not being pushed back at all but taking damage for sure.
“Now Pidgeotto Gust!” Falkner’s timing was perfect. Pidgeotto was effectively fighting the force of the water gun so it now had energy to use in an attack. The bird started to flap it’s large wings strongly. This blew Totodile’s Water gun away from the bird’s body. Totodile tried to kick up the power but it was clear it wasn’t reaching Pidgeotto again this time. Both pokemon ceased their attacks at about the same time as Falkner and I planned our next moves. “Pidgeotto show off your Double Team! And then mix it with Quick Attack!” The obedient pokemon made about a dozen copies of himself like Falker asked. I knew what was going to happen next, I’d seem a similar combination used in Contest’s before.
“Totodile use your Water Gun again but move it from side to side to get all the copies of Pidgeotto!” As Pidgeotto and his copies charged forward at quick speeds my pokemon started spraying them down with it’s Water Gun. One by one the copies got hit and disappeared. But we weren’t hitting the real one yet. Totodile got it down to the last one as the bird was getting awfully close to my water type. Luckily Totodile just barely blasted away Pidgeotto before getting hit with Quick Attack. But it just disappeared like the other Double Copies. Totodile and I both jumped up in shock. Where did Pidgeotto go, Totodile definitely hit all of the visible Pidgeotto’s. Then a caw was heard from above as my pokemon and I simultaneously looked up. There was Falkner’s bird, charging right down with Quick Attack. Totodile had no time to react and was slammed into the ground. A small indent was made into the battle field and a cloud of dust emerged. The dust was close to my side and caused me to cough. Like a lady I coughed into the crease of my elbow. Falkner was very impatient and didn’t want to wait for the dust to settle. He called for a light Gust from Pidgeotto which cleared the dust much faster. I bit my lip and crossed my fingers for Totodile to be ok but as I figured the little blue pokemon’s eyes were full of an unconscious stare.
“The challenger’s Totodile is unable to battle, Falkner’s Pidgeotto wins” announced the ref I didn’t even realise was around. He was standing on the side of the field somewhere between Falker and I. He was holding up a red flag toward’s Falkner’s side. I vaguely remember Sal saying something about referee’s now. I wonder if he started the match and I just didn’t notice. I retrieved Totodile’s small red and white ball from my belt. As I enlarged in it my hand Falkner felt the need to speak.
“I had Pidgeotto use the clones as a cover and then struck when your Totodile wasn’t suspecting it. That technique works quite well in my battles” he unnecessarily gloated. I returned Totodile to his poke ball and placed it back behind me on my belt.
“I admit I wouldn’t have even thought to use the move that way. I’ll give you props on that one.” It stained my tongue to give him a compliment but I had to give credit where credit was due.
“Kissing up won’t get you that badge of mine” he snorted back and flipped the hair out of his eyes. I while messing with my trainer’s belt I grabbed onto another poke ball
“Oh I’m not trying to kiss up, I still can’t stand you and I will still beat you. Totodile did a great job and now my other pokemon will finish the work Totodile started. It’s all you Vulpix!” I swung my arm from behind my pack and got my Vulpix out into the battle. As the poke ball opened the seal of white smoke came out first. I know there are fire seals but those are much to predictable for a fire type. The smoke looked better to me. The smoke faded fast and there sat my Vulpix licking her gorgeous yellow fur. I saw a look of awe on Falkner’s face even it was for only a moment.
“Is that a….” he asked unsure of what was before him.
“Yes that is a shiny pokemon. Different from the standard red Vulpix mine is a lovely yellow.” That was all the words we had to trade at the moment. The ref raised both flags into the air.
“Round 2 of this gym battle will now commence!” he declared. I noticed him start the match this time. He was a short slightly chubby guy. He had on a black and white stripped shirt with a matching hat. His shorts and shoes were pure black. I don’t know how he can wear shorts right now. The night weather was very cold. I had my cute, navy blue fleece jacket and white and grey checkered scarf to keep me nice and cozy. I pinched myself on the arm to get my focus back on the battle. Vulpix was trying to take down Pidgeotto with it’s shots of Ember but the bird was easily dodging them just like earlier with Totodile.
“Now Pidgeotto show off your fierce Gust again!” Pidgeotto flapped it’s powerful wings and stirred the wind up again.
“Vulpix stir up your own wind with Ominous Wind!” The pokemon gracefully flapped it’s tail and oddly sent a gust of purple tinted wind towards it’s opponent. The two winds collided and just cancelled each other out. Pidgeotto might be better with it’s Gust but Ominous Wind was a more powerful attack, making them even. “Now baby take the bird to the ground with Nitro Charge!” The bright yellow and orange fox cutely stomped against the ground a few times before covering itself with orange fire and charging.
“Pidgeotto fly up out of range” Falkner smartly called out. The bird stood in place and just flapped it’s wings up and down and it began to rise quickly. I didn’t need to call off the attack as Vulpix saw she couldn’t get to Pidgeotto and stopped her charge. I liked the tactic of just countering Falkner until he gave an opening. So I decided to just wait for Falkner to make a move first. “Now finish it off before it ever can touch you with your Air Slash.” That was not a good thing for me. Both of Pidgeotto’s wings glowed and the bird swung them forward releasing two slashing waves of energy at my Vulpix.
“Vulpix dodge it!” The nimble fox quickly jumped back evading the first slash. But the second one was aimed much more forward and slammed into Vulpix. The fox grimaced but stayed on it’s feet and just tried to shake the pain away.
“Seems our challenge can’t counter Air Slash so keep it up buddy.” Pidgeotto let out a caw as it’s wings glowed again. I wasn’t about to let Pidgeotto keep whaling on my precious Vulpix. It wasn’t going to work again, I had a strategy this time.
“Vulpix light up the sky with Bursting Flame and then get out of the way with your Quick Attack!”
“Quite a large order your asking.” Falkner clearly had no faith in my Vulpix. A red ball of fire was forming in her mouth as the Air Slashes were approaching quickly.
“Now shoot and evade” I called out/encouraged. Vulpix released it’s Bursting Flame and then moved forward at almost invisible speeds. It appeared the first Air Slash just nicked Vulpix on the tail but the other Air Slash didn’t come close.
“Pidgeotto this move is nothing special, just evade it.” I smiled at the comment from Falkner. He clearly didn’t know Bursting Flame. The ball of fire got close to Pidgeotto as the bird tried to move out of the way. But then the attack did exactly what the name says, it burst. Just like a firework it erupted and shard of it rammed into Pidgeotto. The attack took away Pidgeotto’s focus on flying and the bird approached the ground. I figured it would stop itself with it’s large wings again but that was ok. The bird was closer to Vulpix now, that’s all that mattered. As Pidgeotto was recovering it was time to keep on pressing it for I knew the bird would faint soon.
“Vulpix trap it in with your Fire Spin.” I spread my arms out wide for added dramatic effect. Great hand motions by the trainer helped in contests though I realized it probably made me look foolish now. Nevertheless Vulpix spit out a stream of spinning red fire. The attack landed and Pidgeotto’s body was surrounded in fire and Vulpix let the attack off. Even though it looked like Pidgeotto was burned I knew better, this was just the side effect of Fire Spin. That fire would stay on Pidgeotto’s body for a good amount of seconds. Not even Pidgeotto with it’s wings could shake this off. The damage made the bird drop even closer to the ground. Pidgeotto was just about a foot above the dirt field now. Falkner was getting frustrated with all these successful attacks on my part.
“Now end this round with Nitro Charge!” I flipped my hair back. I had a huge grin knowing Pidgeotto would finally be knocked out soon. And Falkner said that was his best pokemon so I could still very well win this match. Vulpix was covered in fire and already on it’s way to meet Pidgeotto.
“We aren’t just going to stand still this time. Pidgeotto respond with your Brave Bird!” Brave Bird was a recoil move and with the damage Pidgeotto had taken already and was taking from the fire vortex, Brave Bird was a suicide move. Pidgeotto raced forward and enveloped itself in a neon blue aura. Pidgeotto left a trail of red which just showed off how fast it was going. The pokemon were on a crash course for each other. I know Pidgeotto out powers Vulpix but it’s so low on stamina if it even can reach Vulpix my fox pokemon should come out on top. Within seconds the pokemon collided and with all the energy in those two attacks smoke and dirt clouds covered the results. Falkner didn’t even called for Pidgeotto to clear the field with Gust, he knew his pokemon was fainted. What we were both waiting for was how Vulpix was doing. I clung on tightly to hope. I couldn’t loose to this jerk and especially not since he was only the first gym leader, the easiest. I could see Pidgeotto through the smoke with swirls over it’s eyes. I started to see bits of a yellow body but couldn’t make out her status.
“Vulpix girl, how are you feeling?” I called out to try get a response. I didn’t hear anything and that was very disheartening. Then the smoke fully cleared and I could tell by Falkner’s giant smirk that this match was over. Vulpix had fainted. She was frail and Brave Bird was pretty powerful. The ref lifted his flags and said words but I didn’t care to pay attention, what he said didn’t matter. I recalled my fox into her poke ball. I grasped the ball with two hands and whispered into it. “Great attempt girl, we will get them next time, no worries. Get some rest now. You two Totodile.” I said the last bit a little louder so Totodile could hear it back on my belt.
“You can rematch me in just one day. Though if I don’t see you again you wouldn’t be the first.” I just can’t stand his arrogance.
“Oh don’t worry bub, you will see me again. And I will beat you and with Totodile and Vulpix. That’s a promise.” I felt pretty cool with those lines but all I got back was a humph from him and a flick of the hair. I sighed and trudged out of the gym, feeling quite defeated. It was time to go to the hotel and take a nice long rest but first my pokemon needed healing.
Just a few things to mention.
My character Elise knows Ghost moves don’t affect Normal Types. Omnious Win was just used to block the flying type Gust. Just felt like I needed to make that clear.
And another 3, 000-ish word chapter, looks like that’s about the length to expect for this story, it’s a good length.
And still looking for a better title, any suggestions would be great.
And yeah I put my little writer’s comments at the bottom this time, because I can.

A very fun read, both chapters through. I really like the concept, reminds me of going through a game on 'easy', then cranking it up to 'hard' for a second playthrough. I'm looking forward to seeing how the next few chapters come out.;D

I laid in the bed of my bland hotel room in the Pokecenter. The blankets were white, the pillows were white, the carpet was white and of course the walls were white. It was a very boring room for me to stay up. I was currently on the phone with Sal. Totodile was snuggling against my left side and was already fast asleep. Ninetails was curled in a ball by my feet, also asleep. The only awake pokemon of mine was Churine who sleepily Sat on my belly. She was nodding off slowly. Sal on the other hand, as very much awake. He often worked late into the night so being up at eleven at night and talking to me was no problem for him.
“I will be over tomorrow and don’t worry I will help you get strong enough to conquer Falkner tomorrow night. I already have some great training ideas in store. So don’t worry about it. Pretty much every trainer looses at least one gym battle. What will be best for you is to clear your head with some sleep. If you don’t get the misery of loosing out of your head you will loose again. What’s done is done. You need to take the experience from that battle and use it. You should know as a contest trainer that emotions can and will get in the way. And that’s what’s going on with you right now. So I’m going to hang up, so you can sleep. Goodnight El!” he parented me. He was great with words, knew the right things to say and the right tone to say them at.
“Goodnight Sal” I said in a cute girly tone. The beeping of a disconnected call soon followed. A yawn overtook my facial expressions. After that I pressed the red power button on my phone with my thumb. I then preceded to place it on the hotel bedside table. The lights of the room were conveniently placed right over the bed headboard. So I just reached my hand that Totodile wasn’t snuggling with up and flipped down on the switch. The room went black but I could still feel the room’s white dullness. I scratched Churine behind it’s head leafs one more time before completely falling back into the pillow and closing my eyes.
It was early in the morning and the sun was just waking up. I was sitting on the stone bridge in Violet city. My shoeless feet hung over the side and dipped in the water. Totodile was laying on his back in the water just totally enjoying it. I tried to focus on how adorable Totodile was acting right now. But I just couldn’t. Just like when I was trying to fall asleep last night my mind is being flooded with thoughts of my lost gym battle. The hurtful images of my pokemon fainting were very common. And I just couldn’t stop thinking of the mistakes I made, where I went wrong. This wasn’t a new experience for me. I always mulled over when I lost Contest battles. But for some reason this one hurt more. Maybe it’s because I feel like I’m a better trainer than Falkner, or maybe it’s because I just can’t stand him. I sure hope the other seven gym leaders are much more likable than he is. I get to those other gym leaders as I will get past Falkner. I smashed my right fist against my left palm declaring this. This still didn’t get rid of the bitter taste of loosing to Falker from my mouth. I heard footsteps approaching me. This caught my attention because there was barely anyone out at this hour. Just as I expected behind me stood my green haired friend, Sal. I jumped to my feet and quickly rushed over to him. I then totally mauled him with a hug. We both laughed as Totodile joined in to make it a group hug.
“Are you ready to toughen up!” he exclaimed light heartedly. I responded with a leap in the air and a fist pump.
“Do you remember who used to beat Falkner and how many tries it took you?” I questioned. He didn’t take any time to think.
“Of course I remember, it was my first gym battle, it’s very memorable. I defeated Falkner’s Pidgey and Gligar on my first try with Poocheyna and Porygon. But many trainer’s loose on their first try for their first gym battle. Not to sound insulting but they are usually mentally unprepared for the battle. Which I’m guessing hindered you a little bit. But no worries, I will help prepare your mind and your pokemon for your rematch tonight!”
“Yoshi! Let’s rock n roll. Do your worst!” I challenged him with a girly smirk. He chuckled at me.
“This won’t be like when I helped train you before you left on your gym battle journy. That was just a bunch of sparring. This will be more centralized, focused training. I was thinking over it last night. And the first thing we should do is going to be with Totodile. And actually, we shouldn’t be doing this in the city, let’s move to the outskirts first. As we walked Sal pulled out a poke ball and released a young looking Turtwig. He then held Turtwig in his arms as we kept walking across Violet City.
“I don’t remember you having a Turtwig” I mentioned hoping that would lead him to tell a story.
“Turtwig was a gift from Professor Rowan when I was adventuring Sinnoh. I gave him to my sister to take care of since I already had a full team. I’m sure I’ve told you before, my sister takes care of my the pokemon I have caught that I don’t take with me. He is the only pokemon I hadn’t taken out with me before. So last time I was visiting my sister I made sure to take him along. He is going to help teach your Totodile a basic yet very useful new move.” We were outside of the city now and were at an open field. It was mostly grassy but there were dirt spots where the grass had been worn away. Sal let Turtwig down on the ground and Totodile came forth on my side. “Alright Turtwig, use Bite!” I wasn’t sure if Sal wanted me to have Totodile dodge it or just take it upfront. I didn’t know what to say so I didn’t get to say anything. Turtwig got to Totodile with it’s mouth wide open and Totodile naturally defended itself with it’s stubby arms. But Turtwig just clamped it’s jaws onto one of Totodiles arms. My little water type ran around comically flinging the turtle in the air but Turtwig didn’t let go. Sal chuckled but I was fairly worried of the pain Totodile was taking. Sal was pretty amazing and I think he just read my thoughts. “Don’t worry El-chan, Turtwig is still young and fairly weak so it isn’t hurting Totodile very much. It’s your turn now” he said with a charming smile. With a snap of his fingers Turtwig let go of Totodile. Totodile grinned deviously and marched forward towards Turtwig. It opened it’s jaws nice and wide but then Turtwig disappeared in a flash of red. Totodile looked up at me with a confused look. “I just thought of something. Turtwig is my only pokemon that has Bite. So it needs to be there to help Totodile learn the move. But Totodile can practice Bite on any pokemon. And since Turtwig is young and slightly fragile I don’t want Totodile unleashing it’s jaw strength on Turtwig” Sal explained. Totodile and I just nodded along in understanding. Sal placed Turtwig’s ball on his belt and pull out another ball. He then released that pokemon on the training field. Totodile’s opponent as now a very odd looking orange, lizard like thing. This wasn’t a new site for Totodile and I though. This was Sal’s Zuruzukin and it was Sal’s tank. So he brought out a defensive pokemon to take hits from Totodile as he practiced Bite. “There is some strategy to using Bite, it’s about where Totodile bites. He could bite on the opponents hands to stop punching attacks. Or he could bite the tail to stop tail attacks and that’s usually the best place to bite to through the opponent. Now put this move into action!”
“Let’s do this, Totodile use Bite on Zuruzukin’s arm!” I commanded cheerfully to my pokemon. Totodile ran forward, jumped up and latched it’s jaws on Zuruzukin’s arm. Sal had his pokemon stay there and take the attack because if Zuruzukin just kept dodging Totodile would never get practice.
“Now Zuruzukin try to throw Totodile off!” The big fighting type started shaking it’s arm around, slowly at first. But he picked up the speed as the seconds went by. Totodile started to strain and loose it’s grip. After another second Totodile was flung very high in the air. Sal reached for another poke ball and released a light blue pokemon with cloud-like wings, Altaria.
“Altaria catch Totodile please” Sal asked his graceful dragon pokemon. Altaria just flew right under Totodile and my water pokemon landed safely on Altaria’s soft body. Altaria flew back to where we were standing and Totodile jumped off. “Now Totodile and El, try Bite again. And again, and again. We have most of the day.” Sal gave a huge smile almost like he was happy to be here helping me.
A few hours later Totodile was laying on it’s back with it’s tongue hanging out. The little guy was completely exhausted. Zuruzukin was breathing heavily but still had a lot left in him.
“Well that’s enough of that training for now. Let’s get to your other pokemon for a bit” Sal told me still with his cheerful voice. I tossed another poke ball in the air and there was my beautiful yellow Vulpix. She stretched her lovely body and shook her fur around. The sun beamed perfectly on her yellow coat.
“What training do you have in mind for her?” I curiously asked.
“Well I couldn’t think of a new move to teach Vulpix or a special technique. So we are just going to get in some sparring. But Vulpix’s sparring partner won’t be just anybody it’d going to be the Warrior of Destruction, the Champion of Chaos, the….”
“Porygon-Z” I interrupted. Sal dropped his head and frowned.
“You ruined my awesome intro speech” he put on a very fake cry. “Anyway” he transition, drying his fake tears. “Let’s go Porygon-Z!” Sal threw another poke ball onto the field and his closet friend was summoned. Porygon-Z was red and blue with a shape I couldn’t even attempt to describe. Porygon-Z was Sal’s strongest pokemon, it helped him win countless amounts of battles. It had a very diverse move pool which helped make it a great sparring partner. “I’m guessing you had some trouble hitting Falkner’s Pidgeotto so let’s try to replicate that trouble with Agility!” Porygon-Z increased it’s speed and danced around the field all over Vulpix. My fox pokemon darted her head side to side but had no hope to follow. I would usually use Omnious Wind because of it’s large attack radius but it had no effect against Normal Types.
“Use Ember and sway your head side to side!” Vulpix released a barrage of fire from her mouth and did what I asked. By moving her head side to side the flames covered most of the field in front of her.
“That’s a very smart technique but doesn’t work if your opponent is behind you!” Sal commented. “Zen Headbutt!” With a pink glowing forehead Porygon-Z rammed into Vulpix’s back. The fox pokemon was launched forward. All the speed Porygon-Z had going added more power to the attack.
“Vulpix turn around and launch a Bursting Flame!” Vulpix gracefully pulled a u-turn and launched a flaming red sphere blindly.
“Meet the Bursting Flame with your Tri Attack before it bursts!” Sal ordered. Porygon-Z stopped moving so I could now see it. Three right beams shot out from Porygon-Z’s chest. The beams stuck close together and attacked Vulpix’s Bursting Flame. The attacks collided and exploded. Vulpix was caught up in the explosion but Porygon-Z was able to easily avoid it. I’m guessing Sal isn’t even going full strength and we are getting our asses handed to us by him. Just land a hit, we just need to land a hit.
“Vulpix shake off the damage and charge forth with a Nitro Charge!” Vulpix charged forward covered in flames. It was going after the flashes of Porygon-Z she could see. Porygon-Z was so much harder to hit than Pidgeotto.
“If you can hit Porygon-Z you’ll be able to hit Pidgeotto” Sal encouraged. It wasn’t about aim, it was about strategy.
“Vulpix run around in circles!” Vulpix started to do just that with Nitro Charge still active. As Vulpix picked up speed it left a trail of fire from it’s Nitro Charge which made it hard to see where it was in the circle. Porygon-Z was outside the circle as I expected. “Now launch a stream of Ember!” The Ember helped make a large radius of attack. I was certain Porygon-Z would be caught up in this. But then the flames stopped and reveled Vulpix laying on the ground with very dizzy eyes. I had her running in a circle for too long. Porygon-Z stopped moving again revealing it was still untouched. “Well that failed.” I dropped my head in disappointment. That would’ve got some great points in a contest. Sal walked over to my and raised my head with his hands.
“It was a nice idea. Don’t worry that’s why we started early. We have tons of hours for you to try new ideas and just train. I brought Blissey along to offer healing when needed. Now raise that head, get back your confidence and show me who is boss!” Sal encouraged loudly. I couldn’t hold back a smile.
“Poison Jab” Sal called out. Zuruzukin rushed forward with it’s tail glowing purple and it swung at my water reptile.
“Totodile use Bite!” Totodile clamped it’s jaws down on the tail, stopping the attack. “Now make him fly!” Totodile spun around with Zuruzukin’s tail still in Totodile’s mouth. Totodile let go and Zuruzukin was tossed back a few feet. It didn’t fly far being much heavier than Totodile. But it still was tossed.
“Ok that’s enough. I think Totodile has it down. You should get an official healing at the Pokecenter and then go to your gym battle.” The sun was starting to set now. We had spent the entire day training and I felt good about tonight’s battle.
“What about that mental training you mentioned before” I brought up.
“Did you feel confident about the your first try at the gym battle?” He asked.
“No I was pretty nervous” I answered.
“Do you feel confident now?”
“Mental training was a success. The entire day of training was not just for your pokemon you now. Now go forth El and get your first badge!”
“Aye Sir! You’ll be in the stands right.” He just answered with a cute smile.
The stadium lights were bright, the roof was open, Falkner was there as smug as usual and that meant it was gym time.
“Since Pidgeotto took out your entire team last battle I’m going to see what other pokemon of mine can take out your entire team” Falkner taunted.
“This battle will be between Violet City Gym Leader Falker and the Challenger Elise. It will be a 2 v 2 battle. The battle will end when one side has no more pokemon that can battle. Now send out your first pokemon” the ref stated.
“Let’s go Skiploom!” Falkner called forward his green, flowery pokemon. I am familiar with this species but I didn’t expect Falkner to have one. Skiploom floated a few feet in the air.
“Well that makes my first choice easy. Vulpix you’re up!” I fancily flipped the poke ball into the air and smoke was released from it. When the smoke cleared there was Vulpix already in it’s battle stance. Vulpix did not want to loose twice to Falkner either.
“Begin!” shouted the ref.
“End this as fast as it started with Sleep Powder” Falkner told his Skiploom. Skiploom released the green powder from it’s flower and it flowed towards Vulpix.
“Great move but easy to counter if you’re familiar with it. Vulpix cancel the powder out with Ember!” Vulpix exhaled a stream of flames which overpowered the sleep powder and headed towards Skiploom. The flames landed on Skiploom’s body and it shrieked in pain. “Yoshi! We got first blood Vulpix.” Vulpix quickly glanced back and winked but then returned to the battle at hand.
“Great move El!” I heard a cheery man’s voice shout from the stands. That was no other than Sal. I felt better with him in the stands, much more confident.
“Vulpix use Nitro Charge!” The flame covered Vulpix ran forward at the still recovering Skiploom.
“Seed Bomb!” A brown seed materialized above Skiploom head and it shot the seed forward. But the seed stopped in front of Vulpix and stopped moving.
“Just jump over it” I told my pokemon. Vulpix still covered in flames leapt over the seed but then it exploded. Vulpix was tossed back and landed on it’s back. I did not expect that. Skiploom took the time to completely recover from the earlier ember.
“Now Sleep Powder while she is down” Falkner called out flipping his hair.
“Vulpix get up and counter with Ember again!” I cried out. But it was just too much to ask. As Vulpix got back to her feet she was swept up in the green powder. When the powder went away Vulpix was laying flat against the ground, asleep.
Not much to say this time except in upcoming chapters Elise will be catching a fourth pokemon for her team. If you are a fan of this story and have a pokemon you really want to see on Elise's team pm or post what you'd want her to catch.

Vulpix was just laying on the ground, sleeping defenselessly. I only had two pokemon to use for this battle and only one left. I couldn’t switch since Totodile would probably loose and even if Churine did win it wouldn’t stand a chance against Pidgeotto. I had to just keep faith in Vulpix to wake up.
“Skiploom recover with Giga Drain” Falkner wisely asked of his pokemon. Two green vine-like things grew from Skiploom’s hands and wrapped around Vulpix’s body. Then both pokemon began to glow green slightly. Skiploom was looking relieved as Vulpix was in some pain though still asleep. “Now use Bounce!” Skiploom soared into the air and then started to come down right over Vulpix. With it’s entire body Skiploom slammed Vulpix into the ground with the strong attack.
“Wake up Vulpix, I know you can hear me, wake up!” I pleaded. Vulpix’s right ear twitched a little but that was it. My shiny girl was still fast asleep.
“Skiploom shower Vulpix in Seed Bomb’s” Falkner ordered and flicked his wrist fancily in the air. Like earlier brown seeds materialized from Skiploom and it launched the attack towards my poor Vulpix. Skiploom shot out three seeds one after another and they all surrounded Vulpix. The first created on exploded and set off the other two. The exposion was big and was a direct hit to my defenseless Vulpix. Between the exlosion and the smoke from the explosion Vulpix was no where to be seen. That’s when something hit me, it was a feeling inside. It was a strong feeling that Vulpix was awake now and I ran with this feeling.
“Vulpix use Ember now!” I shouted with a fist pump.
“No use, your fox is still fast asleep” Falkner remarked with a sleazy smirk. I didn’t have to reply to Falker to tell him he was wrong. The flame erupting from the smoke cloud replied for me. Skiploom was enveloped in flames. Without my command Vulpix charged forward with just the move I wanted, Nitro Charge. Vulpix leaped up and slammed into Skiploom. Vulpix landed on the ground and caught it’s breath. But I knew I needed to act fast before Skiploom could use Sleep Powder again. Vulpix had taken pretty good damage, it showed on her body. If she fell asleep again it was over so I needed to finish Skiploom off fast. Good thing I have a move for that.
“Vulpix finish this battle off with a Quick Attack” I told my lovely fox. I punched my right fist into my left palm for emphasis. Vulpix charged forward with blindind speed and full out tackled the weird floating plant. Skiploom had no more energy left to fly and tumbled to the ground. It had no more energy left period, it was knocked out. The ref stepped forward and help up the flag on my side.
“Skiploom is unable to battle, Vulpix wins!” he declared. I clasped my hands, kicked my foot in the air and jumped up to celebrate. I had fainted a pokemon of Falkner’s finally! Vulpix stuck her nose up proudly in the air and spewed out flames of victory from her mouth. I looked over to the stands to see Sal standing up and clapping and cheering loudly. I shot a thumbs up and a wink his way. He replied with the same gestures of his own.
“Hmm I didn’t expect Vulpix to wake up so soon” Falkner said while he recalled Skiploom.
“Baka, that’s what you get from underestimating my dearest Vulpix.” Vulpix was sitting back and licking her right paw.
“No matter. That was only one pokemon. The star of the show is ready to make his appearance. Pidgeotto I’m calling on you!” Falkner tossed a poke ball high up in the air and the big brown bird I couldn’t forget came down for a battle. Pidgeotto hovered in the air with an expression as cocky as it’s owner.
“The battle between Pidgeotto and Vulpix will now begin” the ref declared.
“Alright Vulpix let’s get the fireworks started with your Bursting Flame!”
“That trick won’t work on me this time, Pidgeotto dodge it with your Quick Atttack” he ordered with his constant smirk. Pidgeotto flew right past the flaming red sphere of Vulpix’s. It exploded but Pidgeotto was out of the way and heading towards Vulpix.
“Vulpix Ember!” I hoped it would work but Pidgeotto got awfully close really fast. Vulpix shot out an array of flames which Pidgeotto took head on. The bird had to have felt the attack but was able to power through it and unless it’s Quick Attack on Vulpix. Vulpix was flipped back in the air. She landed on her back and then slid back. Pidgeotto pulled a U-turn and headed back for more.
“Wing Attack right on it’s underbelly.” Pidgeotto was flying towards the direction of Falkner now with one wing glowing. As it came up the struggling Vulpix the bird dipped it’s glowing wing down and the Wing Attack ran across Vulpix. The fox briefly howled in pain but then it stopped. She was down for the count. It was really fast but understandable given Vulpix’s previous fight with Skiploom. I rustled in my belt for Vulpix’s poke ball. I held it out and returned Vulpix.
“You fought excellent my darling” I told her and made it loud and clear. I wanted Falkner to hear my complementing my fainted pokemon to display my love for them. I glanced up to the stand to see Sal still cheering me on despite loosing that round. The confidence he had in me kept feeding me more confidence. “Alright Totodile I’m calling on you!” I yelled as I gently tossed the red and white ball in the air. My Totodile came out dancing happily amidst the spray of bubbles. The ref raised up his flags and said his words and the battle was underway. This was the last round of this gym battle, Totodile fainting here would mean another lost gym battle for me. I am not going to loose this, my pride won’t allow it. “Totodile Water Gun.” The energetic little pokemon exhaled a blast of water. Falkner just pointed up to the sky and though Pidgeotto wasn’t facing his trainer the bird flew up effectively dodging the Water Gun. “Follow him with Aqua Jet.” Totodile leaped into the air and then was covered in streams of water. The attack boosted Totodile in the air as he targeted Pidgeotto.
“Pidgeotto use Wing Attack now!” Falkner shouted. Pidgeotto quickly turned around and bashed it’s glowing wing into Totodile. Totodile had a lot of momentum with Aqua Jet but since Totodile was coming up Pidgeotto had gravity on it’s side. As the two pokemon struggled to overpower to other I could see the Aqua Jet wearing off on Totodile. If that wore off completely Totodile would crash into the ground which wasn’t good since they were about fifty feet in the air.
“Totodile Bite the wing” I called out quickly. Totodile immediately changed it’s attack and latched onto Totodile’s wing firmly. This was Totodile can’t crash into the ground. Unless Pidgeotto could get Totodile off which I doubt. Pidgeotto flapped and flapped it’s wings with Gust but Totodile was latched on firmly.
“Pidgeotto fly down and crash Totodile into the ground!” Falkner ordered. He was frustrated and wasn’t doing any fancy hair flipping. Pidgeotto headed straight down towards the ground, more falling than flying. The bird stuck the wing out that Totodile was on and put it closest to the ground. The plan was just to ram that wing into the ground which would damage Totodile more than Pidgeotto. Just as Pidgeotto got really close to the ground I shot my hand into the air.
“Release!” I exclaimed. Totodile let go and landed on the ground on it’s feet. Pidgeotto had no time to react and slammed it’s wing into the ground. Since there was no Totodile between the wing and the ground Pidgeotto’s wing took all the damage. Pidgeotto eventually stopped and turned around to face Totodile. But I noticed for the first time the bird was standing on both it’s talons, it was not flying. “Yatta! We grounded Pidgeotto!” I happily declared. But my smile faded a little bit when I noticed Falkner just smirking and flipping his hair.
“Hmph, rendering that wing almost useless was a very big thing. But see you rendered it almost, useless. Pidgeotto may not be able to fly anymore but I can still get him to use an attack that will finish off your tired Totodile. Gale!” Even with the hurt wing Pidgeotto started flapping both wings much like it did for Gust. The wings started to pick up and then all of a sudden a Tornado was summoned and Totodile was in the middle of it. The thing was huge and somewhere in there was Totodile probably being beat around by strong wings. If the attack was as strong as it looked this would not end well. But I wasn’t just going to wait around and hope, I was going to take action.
“Totodile use Aqua Jet and fly with the wings not against them!” I told my pokemon who I could not see.
“Wa wa” I definitely heard from amidst the tornado. I saw a streak of blue go around and around and around. Pidgeotto and Falkner just stood there waiting. There wasn’t really anything they could do without risking Pidgeotto getting sucked in the Tornado. The more times Totodile went around the more speed it was picking up. I worried about it getting confused though from going around in circles so much.
“Now Totodile break free!” I shouted out loud.
“Wa wa!” Totodile shouted back very determined. With the speed of Aqua Jet Totodile tried to leave the Gale attack and he broke out like a missile. A missile heading straight to Pidgeotto. The bird couldn’t do anything about it, Totodile was moving way to fast. The blue streaking Totodile just slammed into Pidgeotto hard and threw the bird flying back. Pidgeotto contacted into Falkner and they both fell down on the ground hard. Pidgeotto’s eyes were spiraled. The ref raised his flag towards me.
“Pidgeotto is unable to battle, Totodile wins! Falkner has no more pokemon left, the Chalenger Elise is victorious!” He declared. I ran over to Totodile and lifted him high in the air. I could see it in his eyes that he was really dizzy but I still lifted him up and danced around. I am just so dam happy. Totodile was smiling too even though his dizzy eyes didn’t look very happy. Sal was clapping and cheering louder than ever for me. I had one my very first gym badge. What a big step. This feeling I hadn’t felt since I won my very first ribbon. It was just a feeling of accomplishment that couldn’t be beat.
I stood outside of the gym doors as I was told. Falkner was in front of me holding a fancy case. Inside the case was the Violet City Gym Badge. Vulpix and Totodile were both by my side as Falkner handed me the badge. I pulled out my badge case, that I got courtesy of Sal. I placed the double wing shaped Zephyr badge into my black case.
“We may have not gotten along very well but you do deserve that badge. I wish you luck for the rest of your journey” Falkner said very honestly. He smiled and I smiled back. I was very happy with his final words. I wasn’t sure what to say back so I just waved and turned around. Sal was waiting for me a few dozen feet back and I made my way towards him.
“So Winner are you ready to be treated to some dinner?” This day was so great mainly because of Sal.
I sat on my bed late at night, the happiness from my win didn’t go away yet. Dinner was amazing. Sal went home afterwards. He is such a busy guy and has a lot of things to do. Sal’s busy schedule came mainly from him being such a powerful trainer. My pack laid against the bed and the three empty poke balls scattered around the pack. This hotel room at the poke center was awfully bland and white but it was high quality. The sheets were nice and it smelt nice. Vulpix seemed to really enjoy the carpet of the room. She was laying on her stomach and had her body spread out. She seemed to be fast asleep. Churine was sitting on the corner of my bed dancing and spinning around. She felt a little left out not being used in the gym battle. I patted her on the top of the head.
“Churine I have some bad news for you. Sal told me to the next gym is the Bug Type gym. So odds are you won’t be used. But don’t worry I’ll make sure you get some good time out of your ball. Now little buddy you need to start winding down it’s almost bed time” I said softly to the little green plant. I heard a snore and I looked down to see the sound coming from Totodile. He was sitting in my lap and leaning back against my stomach. He was in a very deep sleep and he deserved it all. I let out a huge yawn and a stretch. It was bedtime for me. I picked up Totodile gently and leaned him against the pillows. I then laid my head down next to him. “Churine, Magical Leaf to turn off the lights please.”
With my big orange backpack strapped on my back I casually made my way out of the city early in the morning. I turned back and waved goodbye to Violet City. Though I’m sure I’ll return again sometime in my life. But with Violet City behind me it was time to look ahead to the future, to Azeala City. As I walked along the green path with Totodile in my arms something caught his attention. Totodile burst out of my arms and went running over towards a tree. Totodile started going around to behind a tree. I walked towards him very curious of what he saw. And then all I see is this silver claw hit Totodile. I speed my walk up to see what was going on. And there was a pokemon and for some reason I had a burning desire to catch it.

Updated the front post with an Information Hub, which is just to keep track of Elise and her pokemon, I’ll add more information about Elise’s pokemon and the support characters as well as more details on Elise later on.
Oh yeah, oppinions on Herman? If you like the character she'll appear more, if you don't like her she'll appear less or maybe never again
I pulled out my pokedex to identify the pokemon that just hit Totodile. I had gotten familiar with the species living in Johto currently that I hadn’t used my pokedex in so long. I flipped open the white device to scan the white, furry pokemon.
“Zangoose, the Cat Furret pokemon. Zangoose has feuded with Seviper for many generations. It’s sharp claws are it’s biggest weapon. Zangoose knows the followings moves Scratch, Quick Attack, Double Hit and …” the Pokdex informed me and then I shut it.
“Yoshi! This pokemon seems serious and intimidating. Much different than the cute and graceful pokemon I’ve been catching so far. Zangoose you will be mine!” I declared out loud. Totodile got another claw to the face and stumbled backwards. Zangoose was getting more aggressive with the passing seconds and leapt forward with another Scratch. “Totodile stop it with Bite!” Totodile intercepted Zangoose’s attack with it’s jaws. Zangoose yipped in pain but then almost instantly swung at Totodile with it’s other hand. Totodile didn’t expect this and released it’s jaw’s grip among impact with Zangoose’s scratch. Totodile stumbled back and fell down as his bottom. He was a little shaken up. “Totodile take a rest.” I reached back to my trainer’s belt for another pokemon. “Vulpix you’re…” I stopped before I released Vulpix’s ball. Totodile was up on his feet and looking for more fighting. The two pokemon exchanged death glares though Zangoose’s was much more scary. Zangoose got on all four’s and slowly started to circle around Totodile like it was prey. “I’m not one for waiting, Totodile Water Gun.” A blast of blue water poured from Totodile’s mouth. Zangoose darted forward with such speed that had to be Quick Attack and tried to power past the Water Gun. The white mongoose got closer to Totodile but eventually couldn’t go any farther. It kept trying to get closer through the water gun but both pokemon were at even power at this moment. I noticed some sweat drops coming from Totodile. He was keeping up Water Gun for a long time and it looked like his stamina would run out first. “Totodile abort and evade!” I commanded. Totodile shut his mouth and stopped the gun then tried to back peddle quickly. But it wasn’t quick enough as Zangoose came with a claw to Totodile’s side. The little water type rolled around before stopping and revealing it’s spiral eyes. “You’re strong” I complimented to Zangoose as I returned Totodile to his ball. He had a lot of power and Totodile didn’t do much damage but I had an idea. Zangoose couldn’t do much if it was asleep.
I reached back for Churine’s poke ball and tossed it up gently. My gorgeous plant came out singing and dancing cheerfully. Zangoose shot it’s new opponent an extra scary glance which killed Churine’s singing. I knelt down next to Churine and whispered into her ear, wherever it was. “Now I know this pokemon isn’t the kind of ally you’ve had before. He is scary and angry but he has a fierce battling spirit. I’m sure he will warm up eventually. Though I’m getting ahead of myself, we need to catch him first. And for that I need your help. Are you game?” Churine jumped up and down and I knew that to be her saying yes. “Alright Churine, Sleep Powder!” Churine and I both went to return out focus to Zangoose only to find out he was gone. He must not be a very patiently pokemon or something. “Running isn’t enough to stop me. Churine jump into my arms so you can be on the ready.” I wrapped one arm around the cute, green plant as I reached for my trainer’s belt with the other and got Vulpix poke ball. Upon coming out Vulpix gave a nice long stretch. “Hey girl, I need your nose. There was a pokemon that was just here a few moments ago, a Zangoose. Can you try to track it?” I sweetly asked Vulpix. She just smiled and answered by putting her nose to the ground. Vulpix and her nose followed along the walking path for a while before she took a sudden down right into the trees. I continued to follow her and look for Zangoose without much luck. I finally caught up to Vulpix because she stopped at the base of a tree. She sat down and nudged towards the tree proudly. “So he is up there then” I mumbled to myself. “Good girl” I complimented Vulpix and patted the top of her head. The tree had a very wide base and the first branches were very high up. But once you reached the branches there were a lot of them, so many I couldn’t see Zangoose up there through all the branches. And neither Churine or Vulpix could get up there, I hope Totodile is feeling better. I reached for his ball and gently released him. He came out laying on the ground on his back. “Hey Totodile, Zangoose is up in that tree, don’t you want your revenge?”
Those words got Totodile to jump to his feet instantly. Without command he used Aqua Jet to fly up to the branches. Once on the closest branch Totodile jumped from branch to branch. He stopped and panned around for Zangoose. He then started climbing again, my guess was he couldn’t find Zangoose yet. Totodile disappeared from my sight after climbing for a while and I got worried. My neck hurt from looking up to much so I leaned against the tree to wait. Vulpix was taking the time to groom herself while Churine just hummed a tune while still in my arms. I then heard what sounded like a lot of breaking branches and a blast of water. I quickly took some back steps so I could see what was going on up there. I still couldn’t see anything happening so I assumed it was on the other side and rushed around the tree’s base. Vulpix broke her cleaning time and trotted behind me. On the other side of the tree I could see thing going down. There were a bunch of broken branches on the ground and I could see a hole in the tree where there should been branches. In that hole were Totodile and Zangoose duking it out. Zangoose was on the very end of the branch it was on. Totodile must’ve surprised it with Water Gun and pushed it back. Then Totodile did something really reckless and charged forward with Aqua Jet. The attack pushed Zangoose off it’s branch and thus off the tree and Totodile went soaring with it. I quickly tried to think of a way to cushion their inevitable fall to the ground.
I needed a flying pokemon which I didn’t have on hand and Churine and Vulpix’s moves couldn’t help me in this situation. I ran forward with hopes to catch them. Totodile’s Aqua Jet had pushed them back far from the tree and the two were falling fast. There was no way I would get there in time but I kept sprinting. Then out of nowhere something black swooped down under the two falling pokemon and appeared to have saved them. Zangoose and Totodile had landed safely on Honchkrow’s back. Though with the size of Zangoose Honchkrow didn’t seem to be able to hold them up for long. The bird safely landed on the ground and both pokemon hopped off only to continue their fight. I wanted to know who’s Honchkrow that was, it had to be a trainer’s. Sure enough behind me was a gentle looking female. She had black hair and soft blue eyes. I instantly noticed her camping pack and trainer’s belt. She saw me looking at her and smiled kindly. The Honchkrow came over to her side. “Thanks for saving my pokemon” was all I could think of too say. She gave another really sweet smile.
“Ah it was no trouble. I was just on my way to Azeala and I barely spotted the two falling pokemon in time. But we trainer’s need to help each other out, so I’m glad to help” she replied in soft, quiet voice. Her dialogue was kind of weird but still she saved Totodile and Zangoose so I gave her a big smile and a thumps up.
“So I’m pretty sure from your attire you’re a trainer. Yet you’re leaving Violet City with such a powerful pokemon as Honchkrow. And not to mention why aren’t you flying on Honchkrow?” I asked very curiously, something was weird. She gave a cute and girly laugh back.
“Well this is kind of embarrassing but I only have one badge, I’m a fairly new trainer. Honchkrow doesn’t like anyone on it’s back so I’m stuck walking. Honchkrow might look big and powerful…but he isn’t very powerful” she whispered that last part. Her and Honchkrow both dropped their heads in shame.
“Hey don’t be like that, you have one badge, that’s something. Keep your head up, power is earned through experience” I tried to cheer her up. Her and Honchkrow raised their heads just slightly.
“Thanks for the encouragement mam.”
“No need for formalities, my name is Elise. Besides I only have on badge too.”
“Elise, that’s a lovely name, I’m Herman.” I took a sudden deep breath to cover up my laughter. Herman the girl, such a weird name for a female. “Something I wanted to ask you, why are your two pokemon fighting?” My eyes lit up like a light bulb and I quickly turned around. I completely forgot about Zangoose and Totodile. Totodile laid on the ground sprawled out and defeated. Zangoose looked pretty tired though and got ready to bolt off again but it was surrounded with a purple powder. I looked to see Churine using it’s Sleep Powder and Zangoose was falling to it. I didn’t even notice Churine leave my arms but I’m glad she stopped Zangoose from leaving. I reached back to my orange pack and got an empty poke ball. I pulled my arm back and got ready to throw it but I felt two arms wrap around mine. I glanced back to see Herman stopping my from throwing the poke ball.
“You can’t just catch a sleeping pokemon. It’s defenseless, you’re forcing it to come with you and that’s not right” she reasoned. I sighed and dropped the poke ball. She was right. Herman let go of my arms and looked really happy.
“Alright you win this.” I swooped my poke ball up. “But I’m still determined to catch Zangoose. I’ll do it fair and square for you though.”
“Good.” Herman glanced around at my three pokemon and then back up at me. “So are these your only pokemon?”
“On hand yes” I responded but focused my eyes on the sleeping Zangoose. “Is Honchkrow your only pokemon?”
“Well Murkrow was my first pokemon and a bought a dusk stone as soon as I set off on my journey as a trainer. But I have two other pokemon, Slugma and Kurumiru. We both have three pokemon and one badge, we should battle” she suggested.
“Good idea, but it’ll have to wait” I replied hastily because Zangoose was waking up and all my attention turned to it. I let the mongoose pokemon get to it’s feet before holding a poke ball right in front of it’s nose. “Zangoose, will you join my team?” I asked as sweetly and kindly as possible. Zangoose just growled and head butted the poke ball out of my hand. “You’re fiesty, I like that!” I declared as I quickly jumped back. “Churine you’re a go, Energy Ball!”
“Elise I don’t think Zangoose wants to join you” I heard Herman protest quietly. I just ignored it as Zangoose tried to fend off Energy Ball with it’s Scratch attack. Zangoose failed and the Energy Ball hurt Zangoose good. Zangoose was looking pretty exhausted by now but it charged in recklessly with a Headbutt.
“Dodge and Magical Leaf!” Churine swiftly bounced to the side and Zangoose just ran past. This gave Churine a great shot at Zangoose’s back. The purple glowing leafs struck against the mongoose’s backside. Zangoose tried to stay standing, it fought to stay standing. But Zangoose’s knee’s soon gave in and then it’s whole body. The lovely white pokemon laid face down against the ground. I walked over to it with the empty poke ball back in hand. I got down on my knee’s and once again held out the poke ball. “Zangoose I love your fiery fighting spirit. I think you’ll make a great addition on my team. I really want to catch you, but if you don’t want me as your trainer then catching you won’t be beneficial to me. I wanted to defeat you so I could prove my worth to you. So I’ll ask for the last time now, do you want to join me?” I heard a happy squeal come for Herman probably because of how fair my speech was. Zangoose gave me a gruff smile and it nodded slightly. “Yoshi!” I exclaimed. Then I calmed down and lightly tapped the poke ball against Zangoose’s head. The ball opened and after a flash of light it closed with Zangoose. The ball gave three happy clicks and the Zangoose was mine. I grabbed the ball and fist pumped into the air! With Zangoose finally captured I turned my attention back to Herman. “Sorry but that battle will have to wait. Healing Zangoose and Totodile comes first” I told her.
“I understand, but Violet City is not that far away and I’m in no rush to get to Azeala. Let me go back with you and we will have our battle afterwards.”
It was now the afternoon and I was still walking with Herman towards Azeala with fully healed Zangoose and Totodile. We had yet to have our battle but I was having a good enough time talking with her. There was a small side path leading away from the main path and Herman stopped. I looked at her with curious eyes.
“I was going to visit my Aunt who lives this way. This is where we’ll part ways for now. But I’m sure we will meet up later. Though I still want that battle, let’s do it here. 3v3?”
“Sounds good, Churine rock’n’roll!” I yelled and tossed Churine’s poke ball drastically high in the air. The pokemon floated down amongst the rose petals and was singing cheerfully.
“Churine huh, did you forget my three pokemon are all strong against grass.”
“I didn’t forget, I wanted a challenge for Churine.” I stuck out my tongue and smirked. Herman smiled back and tilted her head, which seemed to be her signature thing.
“Alright then, go Kurimiru!” An extremely cute looking caterpillar with a leaf on the back of it’s head appeared before Herman. “Let’s begin, Kurimiru use Tackle!”
“Churine respond with Cut!” Churine went in head first with the leafs on it’s head glowing bright. Churine’s Cut went against Kurimiru’s Tackle and Churine was more powerful. Kurimiru rolled back but quickly got back to it’s feet.
“Razor Leaf now!”
“Magical Leaf go!” The two leaf attacks were shot rapidly at each other, both sides took damage from the opponents leafs. But once the attacks cleared there lied Kurimiru fainted and Churine was still fine, though a little exhausted.
“Alright Kurimiru you did well, return and go Slugma!” Herman released the blob of fire pokemon. Churine wouldn’t be able to take out another pokemon it was weak too I’m thinking.
“Churine return!” I placed Churine’s ball on my belt and brought out another ball. “Vulpix you’re up!” My bright yellow fox came happily onto the scene. That’s when I noticed something about Slugma.
“Oh wow your fire type is shiny!” we both exclaimed at the same time. Herman’s Slugma was a cool looking grey color. Slugma and Vulpix stared at each other intensively.
“Slugma start off with Rock Throw!” Somehow without any limbs Slugma got a rock laying near it and flung it the way of Vulpix.
“Toss it back with Omnious Wind!” Vulpix fanned it’s tail and blew out softly which somehow created a gust of purple winds. These wings got a hold of the rock and set it back towards Slugma.
“Shake it off and use Ember!” Herman frantically called out. I smirked as the slug fired a blast of fire which Vulpix just stayed still and soaked in. Her ability was Flash Fire, fire moves didn’t effect her and in fact made her fire moves stronger. “Crap, Flash Fire” Herman mumbled.
“Now Vulpix shoot back with a full fledged Ember!” Thanks to Flash Fire the Ember was huge, almost like Flamethrower sized. The flames covered Slugma and were too much for it to take and it fainted. Herman pulled Slugma back into it’s ball.
“You’re good Elise. You have more experience than just being a one badge trainer don’t you?”
“Well I may have traveled Johto earlier collecting Contest Ribbons” I informed her. “But I did loose to Falkner once, so I’m not great.”
“Once? I lost twice. I may come off as quiet and a little but shy, but I’m determined. And this battle is not over yet, go Honchkrow!” The big black bird which was standing behind her the whole time jumped out into the makeshift battlefield and cawed loudly.
“Vulpix use Nitro Charge!”
“Honchkrow Night Slash!” Vulpix ran forward covered in flames while Honchkrow flew low forward with it’s wing glowing a mysterious purple. Honchkrow was large and actually pretty powerful unlike Herman said before. The black bird over powered Vulpix in the close range tussle. My fox slide back on her feet and instantly charged up her Ember. I didn’t call for it but it was a good move. Vulpix launched it fast and the flames overtook Honchkrow but it wasn’t going down that easy. When the fire cleared Honchkrow had a Shadow Ball charged and ready. The black bird launched the purple ball of energy and it slammed hard into Vulpix. My yellow fox laid on the ground unconscious. That left me down to Churine and another pokemon of my choice. It seemed like a good time to test my new catch.
“Zangoose you’re up!” I tossed the poke ball high in the air and Zangoose came flying up out of it. The pokemon did several front flips in the air before landing on the ground in a battle pose. It had one knee on the ground, the other leg stuck out, one arm against the ground out in front and the final arm was being held straight out to the side. Zangoose had it’s claws extended out and the pose looked awfully cool.
“Cool poses are impressive, but can he fight? Another Shado…wait, Night Slash!” I laughed slightly at her little error but she caught it quickly. Honchkrow charged in with another glowing wing.
“Avoid the wing and slam against Honchkrow with a Scratch!” Zangoose charged forward on it’s two feet then it reached out and struck Honchkrow on the head with it’s claw before Honchkrow’s Night Slash ever got close. With Honchkrow grounded Zangoose kicked the bird in the face with it’s Low Kick. Honchkrow struggled to stand on it’s talons but Honchkrow didn’t give it a chance to recover and slammed it with a Headbutt. Zangoose was certainly aggressive and also quite powerful as I figured before I caught it. Herman recalled Honchkrow with a defeated look on her face. “Don’t be so down. Think of this as a chance to improve, every battle win or loose is a chance to improve. Now we will meet again I’m sure of it and test each others skills” I encouraged. Herman seemed to be easily depressed. She looked up and gave me a smile and a thumbs up before turning to go to her Aunts. That gave me a happy feeling in my heart. I headed off towards Azeala, eager of what would come next.

You, sir, have definitely improved in your writing. It's very clear, to the point, and your descriptions are very nice as well. There are only two things I'd have to comment on, in regards to your writing, and those would be:
o1. Punctuation - you should definitely watch out, because after a lot of your dialogue, you don't add punctuation. No commas, no periods, nothing. Always, always need punctuation.
o2. Paragraphs - wow, you've got some long paragraphs going on there, especially in that last one. There are plenty of places you can break it up to. You want to make new paragraph breaks after dialogue; though Elise is talking, there are places where different events occur and you can split it apart and make new paragraphs.
Anyway, otherwise it's great. I loved the battle with Falkner, that was a real fun read. I'll definitely be stalking this. <3
the moment to live and the moment to die. ☆

I love this. <3 When are you posting the next chapter?
Sometimes before it gets better,
the darkness gets bigger,
the person that you take a bullet for
is behind the trigger...

Next Chapter is here! Thanks for the comments, it really gave me inspiration to hurry this chapter up.
Updated the Information Hub with more details on Elise’s pokemon and a section for Sal.
As much as I love fighting and action I felt like there was too much of it going on and thus tried to splice in some emotions/drama, which really isn’t my writing strong point.
On March 6th I’ll be switching all my Japanese Gen V stuff to the English terms. But until then I will keep everything in the Japanese terms.
Zangoose ran forward and swung it’s tail with Double Hit to meet Churine’s Cut. The two attacks met and Churine was holding her own surprisingly. Zangoose then quickly turned to the other side to do the second hit of Double Hit. Zangose’s tail just hit Churine’s leaves again and the power struggle stayed. The two pokemon pushed their attacks against each other for another few seconds. I raised my right hand high in the air and snapped.
“Ok that’s enough” I called out and both pokemon stopped their attacks. “Take a rest now you two.” Churine waddled off into the sun where she laid down and soaked it in. Zangoose walked the short distance to a nearby tree and started practicing his Scratch against it. I walked over and knelt next to him. “You don’t know the meaning of a break do you” I joked. The mongoose looked at me briefly then faced back to the tree. “I noticed your Double Hit is your weakest attack. Or mainly it’s just your tail is weak. Or maybe a combination of both. But either way I will help you work on that. Ok bub?” I gave a really big smile at the end of that speech. Zangoose turned his head my way again but still kept his same serious expression. The pokemon then once again turned back towards the tree and continued to tear it up. I just sighed and rose to my feet. Totodile was laying belly down on my backpack fast sleep. Vulpix, like Churine, was basking in the shade. But instead of laying down in it Vulpix was just sitting and cleaning her paws. Her tail was sparkling in the suns light. It was a very beautiful day at the best time of the day, noon. I was still on my way to Azeala, traveling alone. Suddenly a huge sound filled my ears, then more sounds followed. It sounded like pounding and pummeling, like a pokemon fight. I rushed towards the sound, leaving my pokemon behind. Totodile raised it’s head as I ran by. He then got up very fast and ran by my side. We didn’t have to go far from our camp the see the culprit of the noise. Totodile and I made our way between a few trees that lined the route to see a Rhyperior and a Garchomp doing battle. A few yards back from each pokemon was a trainer shouting out commands. Both trainers were sweating and getting quite into it. It looked like a very intense battle. That’s when it hit me, I knew one of those trainers. The man behind the Rhyperior, in his green jacket, with his cool black shades. He name is Zach and he is one of the trainers that got me to go on this badge getting journey. But what was he doing here? Totodile grabbed onto my hand and used that to climb onto my shoulder. From there we watched the battle together. Rhyperior just used Dig and Garchomp was scanning around for signs of him underground.
“Now Hammer Arm Rhyperior!” Zach commanded loudly accompanied with a fist pump. Rhyperior emerged behind Garchomp with both hands clasped over head and glowing a bright white.
“Block with Brick Break” the other trainer, who was a girl with dark green hair. Garchomp turned around and swung a Brick Break up to meet Rhyperior’s Hammer Arm. But Rhyperior was swinging down so had the power of gravity on it’s side. And the big rock pokemon appeared to have more physical strength. The Hammer Arm slammed Garchomp into the ground and made it unable to battle. “Thanks for the battle, it was a good one” the girl said kindly as she recalled her downed dragon pokemon. “I’d love to stay on chat but I have places to be. We exchanged numbers already so give me a call anytime you want another fight. Tata for now Zach-Boy.” The girl tossed down another poke ball, and out came a Skarmory. She jumped on the birds back and took off to the skies. Zach returned his Rhyperior to it’s sphere cage.
“Did you enjoy the battle Elise” he asked with a straight face, still staring straight ahead. He hadn’t looked my way, I was really surprised he knew I was there.
“I only got the tail end of it, but it seemed intense. So what are you doing here Zach?”
“I can’t just be randomly walking a route in Johto?” he joked, his laugh was weird, it was a very serious sounding laugh. “I was visiting an old friend in Violet City, I looked for you while I was there but never came across you. Now I’m on my way to Azeala to have another battle with Bugsy. We became really good friends and he wants me to come by and test his team.”
“Why don’t you just fly to Azeala, don’t you still have Staraptor?” I came out of the trees now and he finally faced my direction.
“Yes I do still have him with me. But I felt like walking there, get a good glimpse of the scenery again. Walking is just so peaceful. And then I got really lucky and ran into that strong girl here. So today was a very good day. Anyway, I see your Totodile hasn’t evolved yet. Evolution is good, just ask my Typlosion.” Zach reached his hand back and with the press of a button out came a gigantic pokemon. The blue and cream colored pokemon roared loudly and release the bright flames on it’s back.
“I remember you when you were a Cyndaquil and cute” I recollected. “Totodile is still adorable though” I commented and my little water type did a taunting dancing while on my shoulder.
“Typlosion may not be cute anymore, sorry buddy, but he is much stronger. He could easily defeat Totodile now, despite the disadvantage. My experience as a pokemon trainer will also help Typlosion win, compared to your experience as a Coordinator” he mocked.
“Shut up about that, I’m on my way to prove you wrong!” I shouted. I walked over to him and shoved my badge case in his face. “Look at that beautiful badge, the other seven will come in no time.” Zach pushed my hand aside and laughed. He swept his hand down along his pants and pulled out his badge case. He flipped it open to reveal all eight badges, nice and shiny.
“You still have a long way to go, kid.” I clenched my fist in anger and let out a breath of steam. Zach could be such a jerk sometimes. It was Justin who I was better friends with. But Justin was friends with Zach and we all started our journey together. So somehow we became a trio of friends. Though not even really good friends. I enjoyed Sal’s company much more than those two boys.
“I’ll show you how long I have to go!” I exclaimed and quickly moved back. Totodile jumped off, knowing what was going to happen.
“Water Gun!” Totodile inhaled and exhaled a blast of water at the big Typlosion. Typlosion was caught off guard and the attack sprayed him hard in the face. After a moment the surprise wore off of Typlosion and he loudly roared, making the flames on his back grow immensely. As Totodile kept the stream of his Water Gun up the big fire pokemon then let out a Flamethrower. Despite the disadvantage the Flamethrower canceled out the Water Gun. Zach shot a cocky smirk my way follow by a ‘hmph.’
“Looks like we have a fight on our hands Typlosion, though not a very hard fight.”
“Aqua Jet!” I immediately followed up with pointing right at Typlosion with two fingers. Totodile ran forward as water began to envelop the little guy. He then jumped slightly in the air and took off like a bullet covered in that blue streaming water.
“Intercept with Thunder Punch” Zach countered.
“Kick up the speed!” Totodile’s face stressed indicating it was trying a bit harder. Lightning burst from Typlosion fist and surrounded it. Typlosion timed his punch perfectly and the attack reached it’s max power right when Totodile was in striking distance. With Typlosion strength and the super effectiveness of the electric attack Totodile’s Aqua Jet was knocked off and he went flying back. I could already tell Totodile was knocked unconscious as he flew through the air. I quickly launched off my back foot and strode forward to catch Totodile before it painfully crashed into the ground. I held Totodile close to my chest, making me feel secure that Totodile was safe. I know my pokemon will get hurt battling, it’s unavoidable, but I want to do what I can to make them feel as less pain as possible. The battle was over and Zach didn’t say anything. He just looked at me with a grin as he scratched his Typlosion’s back. The big fire pokemon was grinning in pleasure from the back scratch. Zach might be a real asshole but his pokemon loved and respected him. He was a very tough trainer with a tough attitude that his pokemon were completely ok with.
“I left my other pokemon back alone and I’m going to go check on them now. I’m sure I’ll see you in Azeala” I informed him and then quickly turned tail and ran back. I didn’t want to say anything about the battle, even a good game, because I didn’t want to give him an opportunity or idea to insult me about it. I try to act all badass and tough when I can but I know deep down insults, especially from trainers I dislike, don’t go well with my confidence. I returned to my camp to see it the same way as I left it. Churine and Zangoose were doing the exact same thing. Though Vulpix was now laying on her belly, head on her front paws, asleep. I placed Totodile gently down next to my backpack. I then searched from my medicine pocket and retrieved a violet colored potion. I sprayed the medicine over Totodile’s body. I wouldn’t be able to reach the next poke center, which was in Azeala until tonight so the potion would have to make due until then. I then slide down to a sitting position next to Totodile.
My head fell forward and landed in my hands. My eyes closed upon being covered by my hands. I felt really pathetic at the moment. Ever since Zach and Justin told me I took the easy way out with Contests I’ve felt like my pride as been stripped. And now it’s a struggling battle to regain that pride. When I started my journey I had a strong confidence in myself. As my party grew and my pokemon knowledge grew my confidence grew. But ever since going on this second journey I’ve had a wavering confidence and it’s a feeling I don’t like. I slammed my fist against the grass covered ground as a single tear filled my right eye. I then raised my head and opened my eyes back up. I gasped in shock from the sight I immediately witnessed. My four pokemon were standing right in front of me with really confident expressions. Zangoose was looking very badass as it sharpened it’s claws against each other. Churine spun around surrounded by Magical Leaf. Vulpix shot flames into the air and lastly Totodile was flexing. His lack of noticeable muscle made his actions very adorable. My team was telling me something. While I couldn’t decipher their message completely I could just tell that there were showing me what they could do and that they were lending me their strength always, because they had confidence in me. At least that’s what I interpret their actions as. That little scene wouldn’t be enough to fix the emotional struggle going on inside my head right now but it was enough to get me to stand up and give me motivation to get to Azeala. Barring a big time stalling event I would reach their by nightfall.
The light hit me bright as I emerged from Union Cave. I kept trekking onwards with my team walking by my side. Well Zangoose and Vulpix were walking at my sides. Churine was in my arms and Totodile was asleep in my backpack. I giggled as Vulpix made sure she was always walking right in front of Zangoose. She’d get in front of him and so he’d get annoyed and move over. Then of course she’d move over too. And then he’d switch to the other side of me and so would Vulpix. I figured she was trying to send as message saying she thought she was better then him. It was kind of rude but it was harmless and it was a standard attitude from my Vulpix. She was a bit stuck up and a little spoiled. But that was just her personality and I had no intention to change how she acts. Nostalgia hit me hard as I walked past Slowpoke well. Deep inside the well is where I caught my first pokemon Vanipeti. The rare to Johto pokemon was taking shelter there because it was very cold down in the well and the pokemon loved the cold. I didn’t want to take him with me at first because I knew I couldn’t keep the pokemon cold always. But after visiting down there the little ice cream cone was set on coming with me. So I caught it. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. A moment I’ll never forget. Last time I went to Slowpoke well just to explore and to see as much as Johto as I could. This time around I knew there wasn’t much down there and had no reason to go. I walked right past it and the eyes were blessed with the sight of Azeala. It was a small city, much smaller than Violet. But it was a very pleasant looking city, it had a very natural feel. But once I made my way across the city border I noticed something unnatural. There was a crowd gathered at the center of town. I recalled Vulpix and Zangoose into their balls so they didn’t get lose in the city. I then sped up to get close to the crowd. It wasn’t a very big crowd, though it was big considered Azeala’s population. There were about ten people around in a circle. In the middle of the circle was a familiar looking Zach and his Typlosion. After seeing that I really didn’t care to join the crowd.
“So there we were, in the Semi-Final Round of the Pokemon League” I heard Zach tell the crowd with a very loud, excited voice. He must’ve been telling the tales of his pokemon journey. I hated the thought of it but it was true, Zach made it that far in the pokemon league. Though he ended up loosing that match, getting that far was still an impressive feat. I made my way to the PokeCenter. The night sky was upon Azeala and I wanted to get a room before there were no rooms left. The automatic glass doors slide open as I went inside the red and white building.
I walked out of the PokeCenter with a shiny silver hotel key in my hand. To my surprise the crowd around Zach was still there. I thought he was at the end of his tale, but I guess not. And now he had his Rhyperior out and it was showing off how badass looking it was. I walked past the crowd on my way to the Gym. I figured it was too late for a match and didn’t really want to have my gym match right now anyway. But I wanted to go there and get a time reserved for tomorrow. I walked fast past Zach and quickly found myself in front of the big brown building. There was no open roof in this Gym like in the Violet City Gym but there was no need for an open roof here. As quick as it took me to get to the gym I found myself disappointed. There was a big sign on the gym saying ‘Gym Closed for the night.’ I dropped my head and sighed. It wasn’t a big deal though, I’d just show up in the morning. But now I didn’t know what to do with my time. I wasn’t ready to go to sleep just yet. I could go with the crowd and listen to Zach’s stories. I’m sure he had some interesting tales and I didn’t really hate the guy. But at the moment I just did not feel like being around him. Even though it was dark I decided to go to Ilex Forest. I really enjoyed the scenery and atmosphere there. The smell of the pine was really relaxing. I would just go there and chill out for a bit then return here and go to sleep. And then I’d wake up, fight Bugsy, get the badge and have a party. The schedule was happily set. I took a step out of Azela and passed through the gate leading to the Forest.

Recap: Elise reached Azeala late at night with her sites set on the gym battle. Her frenemy Zach was in this city too visiting his good friend Gym Leader Bugsy. With nothing else to do Elise went into Ilex Forest late at night to relax around the lovely atmosphere.
It was now eight in the morning according to my poke’gear. Though time always looked the same here in the forest. I was absolutely exhausted but I kept moving. I didn’t want to admit it but I was lost. Hell I was lost more than eight hours ago. I had ventured out to this forest to relax late last night and I couldn’t find my way back. My hair was really ruffled up, my pants and shirt were torn at various places and my feet hurt from walking so much. I didn’t care if I found the Goldenrod exit or the Azeala one, I just wanted to get out of here.
I had Totodile in my arms at the moment. The wild pokemon around here were surprisingly hostile and Totodile was the only defense I had left. I did have Churine still but everything around here as a bug type and I didn’t want to risk her getting horribly beaten. Vulpix had been doing most of the fighting through the course of the night and now was taking a long rest in her pokeball. Zangoose was helping fend off the local angry pokemon until he was brutally beaten by a Scyther. I used up all my potions on him but he still could barely move. He was resting in his pokeball too and was another reason I really needed to get back to Azeala. Nurse Joy would be able to heal him up good and he needed that badly. I hadn’t slept at all because I didn’t feel safe sleeping here with all the hostile pokemon. So I had pulled an all nighter and really all I want to do now is kill myself. It’d be really helpful to have a flying pokemon right now. I had Totodile and Zangoose climb the tallest trees earlier but just saw more trees and no exit. So all I could do was wander about and try to hope to come across an exit. Now that I thought about it there was a bit more light now than when I first entered the forest which was nice. Totodile was constantly scanning around for any wild pokemon that might attack. I continued to walk about when Totodile’s head suddenly perked up. A sound filled my ears and it was a sound foreign to my ears. It must’ve been what got Totodile’s attention. My legs drifted towards the sound. After a few seconds of really fast walking an amazing site came into view. It was a human being. He was a rather elderly looking man most obvious in his wrinkled skin and white hair. He seemed to be plucking round, colorful fruit from the trees. The foreign sound I had heard was him whistling a merry show tune. Usually I’d be cautious around a stranger especially in a place such as remote as this. But I was tired, hurt and just desperate to get out of this forest.
“Hello sir!” I shouted and waved my hands. The man jumped up at my voice mostly likely surprised by it. He turned my way and instantly looked very worried.
“Oh my miss, are you ok? Your clothes are all torn up and you seem to be cut a lot” he deduced.
“I’m fine in the sense I don’t need any medical attention. But I’m not fine in the sense I’m extremely exhausted and well, lost” I told him, cringing at the last part. He just chuckled and placed another round fruit into a pouch in a bag he had along.
“You must be lost to have found me way out here, far from the path. Are you trying to get to Azeala or Goldenrod?” He placed both hands behind his back and began to walk my way.
“Azeala, but any civilization is what I want. If Goldenrod is closer then that’ll do for now” I answered. He walked passed me, making sure not to get to close. I began to follow him slowly. Totodile let out a huge yawn and began to doze off.
“You’re just in luck miss. Azeala is much closer and that’s where I live so I’ll have no problem taking you back” he informed me. His voice was very cheery but also had a strong, confident tone.
“Luck” I laughed. “I didn’t think it existed after these past few hours. Thank you very much for stopping your activity to take me back. If you don’t mind me asking, what were you doing?” I strode along at his side now and he pulled out a bright pink fruit from his bag. He gently tossed it towards me.
“That’s an apricot. I collect them to make pokeballs. That’s how I make my money to live. My name is Kurt by the way.”
“Hello Kurt, I’m Elise” we exchanged. “I definitely know what an apricot is, living in Johto all my life. But I did not know they could be used to make pokeballs. You learn something new everyday.”
“If you bring me some apricots or if you pay I’ll be happy to make you some pokeballs. I’m sure you use them, you seem like a trainer.” He seemed to like pointing out the fairly obvious but I remained grateful and didn’t say anything.
“I am a trainer, doing my second journey through Johto. First I went for Contest Ribbons and now I’m going for Gym Badges. I have four pokemon on me at the moment and plenty of pokeballs in my bag but thank you. Though if pokeballs can just be bought so easily in a store, how do you make a living selling yours?”
“That is because with apricots I make special pokeballs. In stores you can just by the basic general pokeballs. But I make balls that excel for certain situations. Like pokeballs really good for catching underwater or ones made specifically for bug pokemon. Since they are made for certain situations the catching strength of my balls are much stronger than a general pokeball.”
“Ah interesting. But they only work well for the certain situation they were made for, right? Like using your bug type ball to catch a fire type isn’t a good idea. One would be better off using a pokeball in that case, correct?”
“Absolutely correct. That’s why I’ll never be able to run general pokeballs out of business but I also make a fair share. Thanks for showing some interest in this conversation. I’ve come across many young trainers who didn’t care to talk about this sort of things.”
“Well a big reason I love to explore Johto is all the things I learn. So I’m happy to talk about anything and everything, it’s enjoyable.” I was just mindlessly following him but I noticed now the grass under my feet was nicely cut and full of footprints. Different than the untouched long grass I had been walking in most of the night. We must be on the walking path. My guess was soon confirmed by the building that was unmistakably the exit out of here.
“Well if you love information I have some great stories for you that’ll I’ll try to tell you later. But as I’m sure you noticed the exit is right up there. I’m guessing you’re going to go right to the Poke Center and sleep which I completely understand. You should stop by my house so I can tell you some stories. it’s the house closest to the exit to the forest.” I had been in that forest for so long the natural light beaming out of the exit was hurting my eyes. I squinted as I happily crossed out of the forest. Azeala looked the same as always but it was a great site to see.
“Thanks a bunch Kurt. I owe you my life. I’ll make sure to come by later!” I waved goodbye and took off running to the Poke Center. My run was more like a stumble but I did all I could to get to the red and white building fast. Totodile was woken up by my run and seemed pretty unhappy to have been jostled awake. I charged past the automatic doors and almost collapsed as I reached the counter. The Nurse Joy gasped and jumped back.
“Sorry for the dramatic entrance. But my pokemon need to healed, right now!” I exclaimed. My running, cut up appearance and now yelled was really making a scene but I didn’t care. I handed the Nurse Zangoose and Vulpix’s pokeballs. I then recalled Totodile and also through his ball in the mix.
“Alright I see your urgency, we will seek to these pokemon right away” the nurse told me. I smiled and stumbled as my right knee gave out for a moment. She placed the three pokeballs on a scanner behind her which checked their vitals. “Wow you’re Zangoose is in really bad shape. I understand why you were in such a rush to get him healed. He will get the best of medical help, don’t worry.” I still worried very much.
“Thank you very much. Now I have a room here that I’m going to go to and pass out at. Please deliver my pokemon there when they are healed.” I wanted to wave goodbye but I didn’t have the arm strength. I started to make my way down the hall to the human rooms when my left eye closed. I didn’t have the strength to open it. Now I really couldn’t walk straight. I staggered from side to side as I continued to push on to my destination. I was able to reach my room and I leaned against the door. I pulled out my keycard from my left pocket and swiped it through the door’s lock. I was so glad I didn’t loose that keycard in the forest. I weakly pushed the door open and kicked it closed behind me. I then took a few steps and just collapsed on the bed. I still had on my dirty clothes, backup and shoes but I didn’t care. My mind quickly found sleep.
My mind decided it was time to wake up though my eyes disagreed and stayed closed. I pushed my body up with my arms which were now full of strength. With my arms I removed my backup and then kicked off my shoes. I wasn’t sure how long I had slept but I felt much better now. My energy was mostly restored though my eyes were still struggling to stay closed. Though I wasn’t feeling completely well. My body was still dirty, cut and covered in those pretty much destroyed clothes. A shower and a change of clothes would fix this mess. As I trekked towards the bathroom I noticed a tray of pokeballs by my door. There were three pokeballs there and it made me smile. They all must be fine to have been returned now. I decided to let them rest a bit longer as I made by way into the bathroom. Details for the rest of my actions are not needed.
With a fresh set of clothes, though identical to the clothes I was wearing I set off to leave my room. The shower had made me feel clean and happy. Though I still had a few bruises and scratches, most were small. But there was a big nasty scratch below by left eye that would probably scar. It was caused by a tree branch that I wasn’t paying attention to. Then I had a huge bruise across my stomach. It was hidden by my shirt but every time I rotated my top or laughed I was reminded of that bruise through pain. I strapped my pack back on and slide into a clean pair of flip flops. The last thing was placing my other three pokeballs back on my belt. With that deed done I headed out of the room. I clicked Totodile out of his cage and he greeted my happily with a ‘waaa!’ The little guy jumped up and grabbed onto my pack. As I walked through the white hall Totodile climbed up to the top of my big orange back. Instead of going inside it he just sat on top of it this time. I reached the lobby and continued towards to door. The nurse behind the counter waved at me.
“Miss Elise, Bugsy came by and told me to tell you to stop by his gym as soon as you wanted” informed the pink haired lady in a very soft, girly voice.
“Thank you and thank you for healing my pokemon.” Bugsy wanted to see me, but why. How does he even know who I am. I guess Zach could’ve told him about me, but why. These whys would only be solved by going to his gym. I’d go visit Kurt afterwards. I left the center to be greeted by the setting sun. I glanced at my poke gear for the first time since getting up to check the time. It was just a bit past six in the evening. I set my sights on the gym building.
The brown door slide open to reveal a very bad scene. The battle field which was very noticeable was like a forest. It was very grassy and lined with trees. There was no line to secure a time for a gym battle and there was no gym battle going on. The field was empty but in the stands were four figures. I spotted out Kurt and Zach as two of the figures. Another one was dressed like a ref. That left one figure unidentified. The person had a bug net and purple hair. The person was pretty thin and quite short. I don’t want to sound mean but I couldn’t tell this persons gender. I began to walk towards them with no where else to go. The purple haired one saw me first and motioned for me to come towards them. I’m very curious to see why I was summoned here.
“Hello Elise” spoke the purple haired person with a voice that didn’t help me decide it’s gender. “I’m Bugsy, the gym leader. Kurt told me about what happened earlier and Zach let me know that you were collecting gym badges. So the reason I called you here is to fight me. The battle time has been scheduled, for now, if you want. If it’s too soon then we can do it another time. But I just felt really bad that you got lost in a place so connected to Azeala that I wanted to give you this gift. I have no battles for the rest of the night. So anytime today will work just give me the words.” I patiently waited for a time to speak, Bugsy liked to talk.
“That’s really nice of you Bugsy. My pokemon are freshly healed so I’m ready now. Bugsy, I challenge you for your Gym Badge!” I exclaimed with a fist pump.
“Alright I accept your challenge. Follow me.” Kurt and Zach stayed in the stands as Bugsy, the ref man and I headed down the wooden stairs to the battle field. Kurt was smiling and looked exited to see a battle. Zach just kind of sat there with his arms crossed. One we touched down on the grassy field we split up and headed towards our respective spots. Once I got to my side of the field I pulled out Zangoose’s pokeball. I had foolishly accepted this challenge without checking on Zangoose’s status. The white mongoose materialized in front of me and he appeared fine.
“Hey bud. I’m about to fight a Gym Leader. Do you feel up to it? It’s ok if you’re hurt to sit out.” Zangoose growled and grinned. He showed his fangs and began to sharpen his claws together. “Yoshi! I’ll take that as a yes.” I turned to focus my attention on Bugsy and the ref. The man dressed in black and white raised up his hands.
“This will be a battle between Challenger Elise and Gym Leader Bugsy. It will be a 3v3 battle. Once one side has no more pokemon that can battle then it will be over” he formally stated.
“Let’s start this battle of right with Scyther!” exclaimed Bugsy. He rose his bug net in one hand and tossed up a pokeball in the other. The ball popped open and a Scyther rained down. The green pokemon seemed very fearsome with that tough looking body and those sharp blades. Zangoose stepped forward to battle first for me. I didn’t give him the command but it wasn’t a bad match up. Zangoose was growling like crazy, he was going to fight this Scyther and I couldn’t stop him. The hatred towards Scyther’s he seemed to gain overnight was very much present here. The Ref raised both hands in the air and looked at both trainers.
Sorry this took longer than usually. I wasn’t really feeling up to writing this past week.
I was originally going to include the Bugsy battle in this chapter, from start to finish. But this chapter took up more words than I expected so it seemed like a good place to stop here.
Also I will continue writing without fresh comments but comments are always nice. If you don’t really know what to say just letting me know you’re keeping track of this story would make me happy.
Also the Recap is a new thing I’m going to be adding before my stories. It’s just like a ‘Previously On’ thing you see on TV shows. I figured it’d be good to have a quick refreshment of what was going on previously.

This is a nice story. I've been waiting a little less than patiently for the next chapter and I'm really glad it's here. I didn't see much wrong with it other than a few typos but that's not a big deal. Keep writing, this is good stuff.

Recap: Elise is at Azeala Gym just about to have her Gym Battle with Bugsy begin.
“Show them a tough U-Turn now!” Bugsy called out very quickly. And just as fast as Bugsy could move his mouth Scyther moved in toward Zangoose.
“Zangoose attack him with your Scratch” I told my pokemon. The two pokemon ran at each other, Zangoose with his claws ready and I’m not sure what Scyther was going to attack with. When the two pokemon got close Scyther leapt up and kicked Zangoose right under the chin. Scyther turned into red energy and went back to his ball before Zangoose could do anything back. Zangoose didn’t seem surprised by the disappearing Scyther, just pissed off. “What was that?” I asked extremely curious. That was a move I had never seen before.
“U-Turn is a move that returns the user to it’s pokeball after use. It’s a very powerful move, which is why I like starting with Scyther” the he/she Gym Leader let me know. It stuck the butt of it’s net firmly in the ground and smiled confidently. I looked at Zangoose to see him panting with a big bruise where Scyther hit him. That move really did hit hard. “Alright let’s go Spinarak!” Bugsy tossed another pokeball in the air and again another green bug type came out. Spinarak was a species I’d seen plenty of times before. The spider pokemon didn’t look very powerful and the species usually wasn’t super strong.
“Zangoose are you feeling like you can keep fighting?” I checked in with Zangoose. Zangoose put his claws together and cracked his knuckles. “Let’s make the first move this time…”
“Pin Missile!” Bugsy interrupted. Handfuls of small needles were shot from Spinarak’s mouth. There were much to many to dodge and Zangoose didn’t have any special moves to counter back with. He just put up his arms in front of his face to protect himself best he could. Spinarak had to stop the onslaught eventually to inhale.
“Now is our chance, let’s go with Scratch!” Zangoose charged in with both arms held to the side, claws fully extended.
“Jump back and use Spider Web!” As Zangoose closed in the little spider smoothly jumped to avoid Zangoose’s Scratch. A white web was shot from the spider’s mouth. The web was shot at Zangoose’s feet and soon had the pokemon stuck to the ground. All of Zangoose’s attacks were physical, if Zangoose couldn’t move Spinarak could just stay back and spray Zangoose with Pin Missile or any other range moves.
“Zangoose cut yourself free with Scratch!” Zangoose leaned over and began to claw himself free from the web. He was wide open for an attack but I couldn’t do anything about it.
“Hit him hard with Poison Jab!” Spinarak lunged forward with it’s front leg glowing purple. It struck down against Zangoose’s exposed back. Zangoose yelped in pain. Spinarak then jumped off Zangoose’s back and onto the ground behind him. My eyes spotted than Zangoose got his legs free.
“Low Kick!” I called out hoping Zangoose attacked before Spinarak moved. Zangoose was smart and knew to just kick straight back. Even though he couldn’t see his target Zangoose’s foot connected against Spinarak’s butt. Zangoose quickly spun around with his claws read and fangs bearing. “Scratch, Scratch and more Scratch!” Spinarak also turned around to face Zangoose. But by then Zangoose was just pounding the little spider into the ground with repeated Scratches. After four hits Zangoose let up, Spinarak was fainted. The ref waved a flag towards me and called out that I had one the round. It was the same routine that happened against Falkner and it wasn’t worth paying attention to.
“I compliment you on your battle skill. Your Zangoose is quite tough. And tough is what I love. I train my pokemon hard but they also want to train hard, so it’s not like any harm is done. My pokemon and I share a strong bond through my rough training. And that is how I’m the Azeala Gym Leader. You may have taken first blood but don’t underestimate me. Beedrill you’re up!” Bugsy revealed his last pokemon to me while I still had only revealed Zangoose. Things were definitely looking good for me. The bee pokemon was standing in place and throwing Poison Jabs against the air. He looked like too much of an opponent for Zangoose at the moment. I got Zangoose’s ball from my trainer’s belt and held it out.
“Return.” Zangoose didn’t seem to happy about being recalled but it went in it’s cage. “Totodile buddy you’re up!” I shook around my body to shake my pack to get Totodile’s attention.
“Waawaa!” he exclaimed and jumped right over my head onto the battle field.
“First a normal type and now a water type. Seems like you might fight me with no type advantages, very bold. Alright Beedrill start things off with Silver Wind!” Bugsy really liked to get in the first move and it annoying me a bit. I wanted to get in the first move. Beedrill stood on the ground on it’s thin legs and began to flap it’s wings. An olive green colored wind was formed and was flying towards Totodile.
“Aqua Jet!” Totodile covered itself in water and took off like a bullet towards the wind. It hit the wind head on but the wind was more powerful than he. Totodile’s Aqua Jet was blown off and he was sent soaring back.
“Now follow up with Twineedle!” shouted Bugsy with a confident smile. He was confident like a gym leader should be, but he didn’t piss me off like Falkner did. Beedrill darted forward as Totodile soared helplessly through the air. Beedrill hit Totodile twice in the stomach from above with it’s stingers. Totodile was sent smashing into the ground. Beedrill kept flying as Totodile lay hurt on the ground. Beedrill turned around as Totodile desperately tried to get to his feet.
“Totodile get up, you can do it” I encouraged with my hands clasped together. The little water type rose to a stand position on his stubby little legs as Beedrill was flying back for another attack. “Water Gun!”
“Dodge!” Beedrill was substantially faster than Totodile and avoided the blast of water pretty easily. Though the Water Gun did clip Beedrill’s right wing it didn’t screw up his flying. Beedrill closing in now and Totodile only had one move left he could use before getting hit.
“Bite a stinger!” I ordered and Totodile nodded. Beedrill swung his needle arm and Totodile ducked and was able to avoid it. Then came the second attack, too low to duck over. Totodile opened up his big mouth and clamped down. The force of the attack pushed Totodile back a few inches but his jaws were now clamped down on one of Beedrill’s stingers. I could see the sweat coming off of Totodile, he was exhausted by now. “Alright now, dodge this, Water Gun!” With Beedrill’s silver stinger still in Totodile’s mouth the water type launched his Water Gun from his mouth. This pushed Beedrill free from Totodile’s Bite but now he was getting slammed with a strong blast of water. Totodile was able to get Beedrill good for a few moments until Beedrill got back into the air. Totodile tried to aim his Water Gun but Beedrill was just too fast for him.
“Now finish it with Silver Wind!” Bugsy commanded very composed. Amidst dodging the Water Gun attacks Beedrill turned to face Totodile and began to flap his insect wings. The olive green wind hit against Totodile’s body and pushed him back. The guy rolled head over heel back towards me. When the when died out Totodile laid sprawled out with his eyes full of spirals. I dropped my head slightly in disappointment. Not disappointed in Totodile but in myself for letting him loose. I grabbed his and Vulpix’s ball from my belt. I had been zoning the ref’s talk out but it seemed like it was ok to send out my next pokemon. I returned Totodile and out the same time let out my shining beauty. Both Bugsy and the Ref took a double take at my lovely fox pokemon.
“Yes she really is shiny. Now Bugsy, I’ve held my own so far without advantages. Now with this fire type I’m going to sweep you under the rug!” I declared pointing at him with two fingers and flipping my hair.
“You seem to be full of a lot of boldness. Beedrill continue to show her the strength of bug types. I’ve had to take down fire types before. Twineedle go!” Bugsy continued the streak of first moves, I was just too slow. Beedrill flew forward with it’s feet just barely above ground.
“Scorch him with your Ember!” A straight blast of red fire came from Vulpix’s mouth which Beedrill tried to swiftly dodge but Vulpix was faster than Totodile. The Ember hit a good half of Beedrill’s body. But it didn’t do enough damage to stop Beedrill from charging forward. Beedrill jabbed Vulpix twice in the head with both it’s stingers. Vulpix wasn’t knocked back at all just shaken. Beedrill went in for another attack. The first Twineedle Jab hit Vulpix in the head again. But before Beedrill could land the second attack Vulpix lit herself on red fire. Under the fire her yellow body charged forward and tackled Beedrill.
“Beedrill get back!” Vulpix continued to push against Beedrill with her Nitro Charge. Beedrill broke free by taking off towards the sky. “Now rain down Swift!” For the first time Beedrill attacked from high in the air. He summoned bunches of golden stars and shot them right down at Vulpix.
“Ember!” Vulpix looked up and fired a her attack. The flames meet with the stars and ignited them, making flaming stars. But the Ember wasn’t powerful enough to change the direction of the Swift attack and it kept coming towards Vulpix. Which was just what I wanted. “Now Omnious Wind, send those stars back where they came from!” Vulpix nodded and began to flap her tail. She summoned an eerie purple wind that pushed the flaming stars upwards and yet didn’t put out the flame. Their were far to many stars for Beedrill to dodge. The yellow bee was hit over and over again. Beedrill was knocked unconscious and began to fall towards the ground. Bugsy quickly snapped out Beedrill’s pokeball and returned him.
“Great job dude” Bugsy complemented and it was well deserved. Beedrill took out Totodile and put some good damage on Vulpix. “Down to my last pokemon, let’s go Scyther!” The green pokemon that had started this match for Bugsy was going to finish it, how poetic.
“Vulpix just one more, you can do it. Let’s go with Em..”
“Quick Attack!” Bugsy shouted first. Vulpix still got the idea and shot her Ember attack. Scyther is a really fast species and then mixed in with Quick Attack he became a blur. He evaded the Ember and smashed right into Vulpix sending her skidding on her backside. My Vulpix was skilled though and as she slide on her back she lifted up her head and fired an Ember. Bugsy or Scyther didn’t see this coming and Scyther was covered in flames. Vulpix then took that opportunity to rise to her feet. I could tell she really wanted to clean up her fur that was all messy now but she knew to focus on the battle. The flames were off Scyther to reveal he was a bit unhappy to get heated like that. “Air Slash!”
“Omnious Wind!” Two thin blades of air came off Scyther’s wings while Vulpix stirred up her purple wind. I was hoping the wind would push back the Air Slashes but that wasn’t the case. The Air Slashes just kept going and sliced Vulpix in both shoulders. She cried in pain as Scyther was speeding forward for another attack. A physical attack this time, though not sure what. This was no good Scyther was extremely fast, if Vulpix got hit again she’d faint. I needed to make sure this next attack hit. “Burst Flame at the ground!” A red ball of fire began to form at Vulpix’s mouth. Just as Scyther closed in Vulpix looked down and released the attack. It hit the ground and exploded all in front of Vulpix so Scyther couldn’t avoid it. The green mantis was pushed back just slightly. The ground absorbed most of the damage but Scyther took some. Vulpix didn’t take any damage because of her Flash Fire. She actually got slightly powered up from it. “Now finish this with Ember!” I shouted, pumping my fist in the air.
“Slash quickly now!” Scyther was still really close to Vulpix and took a step forward. He then raised up his scythe and slammed it into Vulpix’s side before she could fire her attack. Her body rolled twice before revealing an unconscious Vulpix.
“Great job girl” I told her and then recalled her to her pokeball. I reached for Zangoose’s pokeball. “Alright Zangoose you’re the last hope!” I said as opened the round cage. Zangoose came out excited to see he got to face Scyther. In Ilex Forest we got attacked by a Scyther and it really hurt Zangoose. Bugsy’s Scyther is a different one but Zangoose still wants to get his revenge against the species. “Zangoose he can’t U-Turn away this time. Go get him!”
“The Final Round between Gym Leader Bugsy and Challenger Elise will begin now!” I heard the ref declare this time. Both pokemon had a taken some hits, this would be a fairly short battle.
“Scratch!” I yelled finally getting in the first move.
“Slash!” Both pokemon ran towards each other ready to slice each other up. Scyther’s right scythe collided with Zangoose’s side while Zangoose went for Scyther’s head. Both attacks landed at the same time and even though it had to hurt both pokemon got their other hand ready for an attack. Zangoose hit first this time and got Scyther right across the chest. This coupled with Zangoose’s previous attack made Scyther stumbled back in pain.
“We have him running, finish it with Headbutt!”
“Quick Attack, head to the trees!” The trees that have lined both sides of the battle field haven’t come into play at all, until now. Scyther had to be going there for cover. And I’m sure he was used to fighting on and around trees, Zangoose was not. Zangoose switched to his own Quick Attack but he wasn’t as fast as Scyther. Scyther made it into the tree cover and hide behind one. Zangoose and I both knew where he was but Zangoose would have to go around the tree to reach Scyther and Scyther would be ready to attack. I noticed there was nothing but Scyther behind this tree that stood about fifteen feet tall like all the trees. “Knock it down, with Double Hit!” Zangoose turned it’s body and slammed it’s tail into the tree. Zangoose’s Double Hit was fairly weak and that showed here as the tree didn’t really shake at all. Scyther was taking this time to rest a bit. Scyther was still fresh off his fight with Vulpix while Zangoose had a few rounds to rest. “Try it again!” The frustrated Zangoose roared as he started to swing his tail at the tree again. But his tail had a metallic cover this time, it was no double hit. This move was Iron Tail and it was strong. The attack sliced right through the tree, sending it falling down towards Scyther. Scyther wasn’t able to get out of the way and was smashed against the ground. Bugsy quickly returned Scyther to his pokeball before the weight of the tree hurt him anymore.
“Scyther is unable to battle, Challenger Elise wins!” the ref declared. Kurt and Zach clapped from the stands as Bugsy and I walked forward. We meet at the middle of the field and shook hands. Zangoose made his way towards me, very satisfied.
“That was a great battle Elise, definitely one to remember. You deserve this badge” Bugsy stated reaching into his pocket. Suddenly the gym doors opened and a female ran in panting.
“Bugsy there is trouble in Ilex Forest, we need you!” she exclaimed.
I just noticed I went from Roman Numeral number chapters to standard numbering. Silly me.
For those of you that noticed the Gym Leaders are using their signature pokemon in the final round just like in the games and are rather bored of it. The next gym is going to change things.
