Something about the combination of cutesiness and dead seriousness in FF games just makes me want to throw them out of the window. Mostly looking forward to four player co-op in Crackdown 2 this summer now, kicking unsuspecting mates off skyscrapers takes a long time to get old.
As for the game itself, it seems Spider-Man won't be contained to one central city. Fans are told to "prepare to be surprised with the unique, unexpected worlds Spider-Man will adventure through in Activision's latest foray," the listing says.
Spidey in the Negative zone? sounds like lots of smaller spaces rather than free roam in NYC, hmm.
Bit worried about this Spidey game from what I've heard about it, lots of different places sounds pre scripted and linear to me. Ah well, new info coming out soon. Anybody planning on buying, or bought Just Cause 2? I got bored of the first one pretty quickly and I'm curious how this one shapes up.
I don't, but I've wanted to try that and the first Just Cause game. I never even tried the first one yet.
The first one was so big it was actually a chore to get around and so repetitive I actually got bored and quit. I've quit a few games in frustration at being unable to progress, but this is one of only three games ever I've just got too bored to finish.
The next Saints Row is mind-blowing. New tech, mind-blowing. I can't talk about that too much but it's mind-blowing. The PR and the marketing for that is going to start rolling out this year.
TBH I think a ten out of ten score is bullshit anyway, there'll always be flaws. I'm more interested in the fact that all the reviewers so far praise how interesting the world is and how much stuff there is to find, along with Rockstar's typical excellent voice acting and writing.
But I was specifically addressing R* in that post. I'm not denying RDR will be a solid game worth purchasing, I just don't see it getting many 10's cause of what happened with GTA4.
Horrifying as this is to admit, I actually hope you're right. From what I know of the game I suspect that I'm going to love it, but I'm also absolutely sure I will find things about it irritating. I think a 10/10 score should be an impossible dream for games companies, games have such a large subjective element to them it shouldn't be achievable.
Bioshock 2 will be in the post tomorrow Ted. I know deep down it's a brilliant game and I'm annoyed at myself for giving up on it but I really just can't get into it like I did with Bioshock 1.
BS2 was an excellent game, but it just didn't have the suspension of disbelief that part one had. There was a sense of desperation in BS1 after the whole reveal of the twist that never surfaced in part 2.
quote Bergin
If my money goes in the bank on time, I'll be getting RDR a day early tomorrow from my local independent game shop. This looks like it's going to be game of the year, based on reviews. Can't wait.
You lucky bastard, I'm purchasing RDR at the crack of dawn Friday and I can't wait.
Got RDR from Gamestation at ten past nine this morning and the manager who I know quite well told me they'd sold about 15 copies in ten minutes. And it's epic, who would have thought herding cattle in a storm could feel so rewarding? I have to agree Chiro you should definitely give it a shot, it's fantastic fun. Being chased by bandits as you race your horse with a tied up bandit roped to your saddle is fantastic too!
Killing a cougar with a double-barrelled shotgun as just superb.
Those things aren't cougars, they're *bleep*ing horse assassins Oh and yes about the horse riding, I hated it at first but it comes totally naturally now.
The problem is that the more I read this thread and other forums where people describe the game, the more it sounds like this would not be something I would like.
The game has two strikes going into it in my book. The first is that I have never liked westerns, not movies and not games! The second strike (for me) is that it is on the same physics engine as GTA IV, and it is, for all intensive purposes (from a physics perspective) kind of a GTA IV western with a lot of side quests.
Well to answer your problems, A) I suppose there's just no cure for a lack of taste B) They have greatly toned the physics engine down in this game, it is not even close to as twitchy and annoying as GTA IV was.
I thought I would be bored with the horses in no time (no interest in them at all IRL) and I find I just love riding around exploring, weird.
I absolutely hated the ending, but in a good way if that makes sense. It made perfect sense in the context of the story, but enraged me deeply-probably the effect they were hoping for all along.
It's your loss Chiro Personally, the game was so good I admire Rockstar for putting in a surprise ending that was so in keeping with the theme of the game, it was a bold move. You're really overestimating the level of realism in the game, it's a spaghetti western you can play, with all the levels of bloodshed and destruction that genre implies.
Jesus Chiro calm down, did the smiley not make it obvious that particular remark was a joke? I completely agree you have every right not to pick a game based on disliking the genre, that doesn't I don't have the right to state what I think is great about it. I corrected you about the realism because you're wrong, it isn't realistic it's dramatic.
Yeah, my over enthusiasm for this game does get the better of me. I'm not trying to push the game on you, since I dismiss war, racing, strategy, JRPG's and other genres out of hand myself. I can see how my fanboy ranting comes off as that however, especially when I started the post by taking the piss out of you
Now I remember something I wanted to ask, did you ever get around to Crackdown (sequel coming next month) and what did you think ? Also has anybody looked at the new forthcoming Spidey game and felt any enthusiasm, because I'm feeling distinctly meh about it.
Yeah, I do tend to rant about RDR (in a good way I hope) because I genuinely think it's a step forward in game techniques. Which is not to say that I disavow anyone's right to say 'screw westerns, they are teh suck.' I wish there was a way you could watch all the RDR cutscenes in order though Chiro, because I think even though you dislike westerns, as a writer you'd appreciate the way the narrative fits together and admire what R* did, that is streets ahead of the usual bad-guys-killed-your-father origin story crap. And I'm glad you said that about the Spidey game, because I was thinking I was the only one thinking 'Shattered dimensions? *bleep*ing small pocket dimensions more like.' If this game is a linear scrapper, which I think it is, then regretfully I'm going to shelve it until I get a cheap used copy.
I hadn't thought about your Just Cause example Chiro, but it makes sense. Frankly not only am I not sold on the four different dimensions thing, but they have a different actor doing the voice for each dimension. What a mighty way to break my immersion in the game as I get used to a new voiceover
Mnm, here's the song in question, proper version too. I loved that part of the game, that was really epic. Dead Rising 2 in September also Bergin, I'm cautiously optimistic about that one, they're actually releasing a short prequel in August. About five hours of original content as a demo/introduction to the main game and your character carries over so you can get a quick boost. I like the idea of a demo that's separate from the main game even if I do have to pay a fiver for it, which they've hinted at.
I won an early access key to the Crackdown 2 demo over the weekend and have been playing it obsessively ever since, I'd almost forgotten how much I loved bouncing over rooftops and staggering levels of violence. Can't wait until next month for the full game now, the only thing wrong with the demo is the thirty minute time limit. I want my damn rocket launcher! It's not much of a progression from the first one, but being able to pick up a streetlight and beat the crap out of hordes of freaks with it is a lot of fun.
Man, inFamous is one of the few exclusive games on the PS3 that I absolutely burn to own, I guess next time I have the money to purchase a PS3 it'll be really cheap though, so silver linings I guess I am guessing that you'll have a ball with Crackdown Chiro, there's something about being able to flaunt superpowers in a decent sized city that makes me still play it.
