I Am a Lone RPG Gamer in a Morass of Action Players |
|
Join me, those who are shunned for enjoying the stimulation of back history and turn based battles over the thrill of shooting a lowlife pimp in the face with a shotgun.
Who else here enjoys sinning as an RPG gamer? ------------------- I don't hate oldies, I just amuse myself playing with them.

Man, I *bleep*ing love RPG's. My favorite types of games. Turn-based or Action-oriented, I love most RPG's I play. Any in particular you're a fan of, Mishy?

I just got this mental image of a lone Mishy huddling under a tent in the middle of a thunderstorm, cowering and shivering under a blanket. Not quite sure why. I love RPGs, definitely my favorite genre of games. Currently working on Kingdom Hearts, really enjoying it at this point. You play any tabletop RPGs? MMO's are always fun too, WoW is ftw (I don't play that anymore sadly). -------------------

I'd have to say some of my favourite games are RPG's. Fallout 3 and Oblivion are two of the best games I've ever played. The sheer immersion was enough to make me lose days and days in those games.

I was never a fan of RPG's because I don't have the patience for them, but I definitely see the allure. In fact, I love when great action games incorporate certain RPG elements into their games. GTA games on the PS2 comes to mind, where your character's skills leveled up through the course of the game, and you could buy and change clothing, eat food, work out, and do all sorts of other RPGish kind of things. Ratchet & Clank titles also added some nice RPG elements to the game. I have just never had the patience play a full blown RPG and to make decisions and watch the AI do all the work, though.

I love RPGs, the way your actions shape the course of the story is something which has always attracted me. I just don't like turn based RPGs too much. FFX and a couple others are exceptions.

Mass Effect. END.
I would probably say RPG's are my favourite games. I find it too hard to be TOTALLY evil, though ------------------- ![]() He pauses shaving and he tells himself that he is the bomb

quote RKO619GTA isn't an RPG??? I'd say RPG's are definitely in my top 4 genres of games. I love old ones like Secret Of Mana on SNES, all of the Final Fantasy series, can't wait for 13. Plus I loved Oblivion and Fallout 3 like Jack mentioned. FPS's, sandbox action and racing are my top 3 genres but RPG's come next. ------------------- Galileo was imprisoned by the church.

@ Steel and Mish
What did you think of Mass Effect ? If you haven't played it, i suggest you try it. I normally HATE space based games, but this one still stuck with me. ------------------- ![]() He pauses shaving and he tells himself that he is the bomb

I've given the beginning a go. I think it's a game Chiro needs to give a try, because it has action elements but is also partly an RPG (it's an "Action RPG", they're an advent of a shift in 2004 away for turnbased combat, you should give the genre a check Chiro). Unfortunately, the computer I was using couldn't handle the graphics requirement so I had significant issues finishing much more than the very beginning.
I enjoyed what I did play immensely though. =D Bioware knows their stuff. quote The HazIn most RPGs, you have to be a violent sycophant to be evil. I liked the more subtle assholery you could get away with in games like Mass Effect and Baldur's Gate II. quote BerginOh man, I remember sitting down to play on at three in the afternoon, and then standing up, thinking about hitting the sack and noticing it was sunrise. =D quote GregmI'm a fan of most kinds of RPGs, I do have a bit of an aversion to JRPGs due to the lack of storyline choice, mind. quote GexTheLizard... am I shooting RPG directly into my veins or something? ------------------- I don't hate oldies, I just amuse myself playing with them.

quote Mishtramhaha, what a word xD Yeah, i love being a prick to someone on ME, but when it comes to civvies i tend to travel accross the galaxy to save some randomer. You should definitely pick it up again, if you didn't finish it. It forces you to make some pretty hard choices later in the game. Oh and there is also the added bonus of ME2 using information from your ME save when you play it. ------------------- ![]() He pauses shaving and he tells himself that he is the bomb

I'm going to have to get something that can actually play it, but the big plan is once I have it, Mass Effect and it's sequel are the first two games I'm going to play.
Closely followed by The Witcher and Dragon Age: Origin, even though Freeze recently mentioned that the game wasn't as awesome as I hoped it would be. Thanks for the info on the save game thing, I didn't know that. I'm the same though. If I want to be a darker character, I usually become one of those shades of gray. I want to do what I want to do and be snarky when I want to be snarky. If that means I want to call someone an ass while saving their's, I fully intend to let myself do so, and ME seems to allow that option. =D Of course, first, I usually have to play the good side to make myself feel good, lol! I didn't know how the ME system worked when doing dialogue so I bet it helps having some obscurity in knowing what points I'll get when responding to others. ;D ------------------- I don't hate oldies, I just amuse myself playing with them.

I'm a hardcore RPG gamer, I don't play many other genres. Maybe a shooter like MW2 every once in a while. -------------------
