Hey guys,
First off, let me welcome you to the first community social forum on Neoseeker. This forum has been created as a trial concept, so the pressure is on for us all to make this succeed.
So what is this and what's the point? Well, the point is just to let members of the GTA community (and others, if they so wish) to hang out. Think of this as an expansion of a General Discussion, or just a plain replication of Loungin'. Be sure that this is not a license to spam, flame or in any other way violate site rules, but at the same time we want it to be a relaxed place for you all to chill out.
The GTA community has been invaluable to the growth of neoforums over the years, so we feel now is a good time to try and build on that and let you guys hang loose a bit. We know Loungin is huge and that there are smaller communities around, so it seems only logical for those groups to have their own "lounge" area.
You will notice that the forum moderators chosen for this place are ChiroVette, Steel Magnolia and Mishtram. These guys have proven themselves on Neoseeker, so I hope you all give them your support in trying to make this thing work.
Finally, as I mentioned this is a trial. If this forum becomes too much work, or is for whatever reason considered no longer suitable, then it will be closed. If the forum is a success, however, you may see other similar forums cropping up.
I'll leave it at that then, feel free to ask any questions here.

Let's hold off on the hurt/heal thread for the moment. I am all for forum games, quizzes, and other activities, but these hurt/heal threads always end up as glorified SPAM. If the forum gets a lot more active then I would allow it, but right now I believe another Hurt/Heal thread would bring an artificial increase in activity.

I will talk to Mnmfan and see if he is either interested in keeping up with the scrapbook or would be willing to give the template to a volunteer who does want to continue it.

I agree. We can have a Hurt/Heal if you guys want, but GTA_Fanatic is right. There really would be little point in continuing the interviews when the forum is not that active.

I think that the main reason is the dismal failure of GTA IV in terms of its universal appeal to the GTA community and the lack of GTA fans interested enough to get their asses into the forums. It's a real freaking shame too. Had we created a GTA Social Forum when III, VC, and SA were in their respective heydays, the place would have been slamming busy. The fact is that with San Andreas having run its course, and GTA IV not garnering the interest of the GTA community anywhere near the way previous titles have, it is a given that this forum is comparatively dead.
The only hope we have for this forum becoming insanely busy, like it should be, is if GTA V greatly exceeds expectations and sucks the hardcore fanbase back into the community like the previous games did. I can PROMISE YOU right now that if Rockstar puts out a GTA title that is anywhere near as popular as any of the PS2 titles (by that I mean III, VC, and SA) that this forum will be SLAMMING busy.
So let's all cross our fingers for GTA: Next.

Again, I have no problem with people posting questions about my decisions, or even informing me they think I suck as a mod or get some exaggerated self-importance from presiding over the forums. Only the last couple of bans I didn't add, but I will probably start updating it again. Lately I have been considering abolishing a public ban list and perhaps adding it as a Mod Only thread.

One major point and one minor point. The major point is that it allows me to keep track of bans easier than trying to keep some off line list. This is good for future reference, say when some spamming troublemaker who gets a lot of bans pleads for leniency at some time later on. The second, more disputed reason, is it has the potential to act as a deterrent to future offenders, at least that is the hope.

This is why I mentioned that it is not universally agreed on whether to make them public. Personally, I do it because the forum I was invited to co mod with (my first forum) had one, and it is a tradition I have maintained. Not saying it is a tradition I intend to keep, by the way. I am considering my options.

Good points, Greg.
Final Blade, while I would agree that you lose a bit of credibility when quoting yourself, I am not prepared to use that as a reason to outlaw it in that thread. In addition, we have something Loungin' does not, an Off Topic CWM that gets deleted automatically when closed. So this means that anything in there will be gone for good, and some members might want to preserve some things they post in that thread by quoting themselves into a thread that will NOT auto-delete when I close it at 30 pages.

I think binding up a quotations thread with rules might make it a lot less sponteous. The thread is for quoting things that a member feels is worth quoting, whether it be their own posts or someone else's. I would probably clamp down if someone spammed the thread up with self-aggrandizing attention seeking quotes, but we have a thread there that is 4 pages in almost a month and a half. This is not exactly some runaway train of a thread.

I see your point, but I just don't think that I want to make that rule. I don't honestly see the good it would serve. If people were habitually abusing the fact that I allow self-quoting, I would be more inclined to give it more serious thought, but there doesn't seem to be an outbreak of self-quoting spam posts. In short, it isn't creating issues in the forum.
