Best Video File Format?

Okay I had no idea where to post this so I posted it here because this seems to be the closest thing. What's the highest-resolution, highest frame-rate video format?

AVI, MP4 or DivX! DivX is the best of all of them. But MP4 is the best as far as compatibility. DivX is the least compatible of the 3.

Aye. AVI is the most common by far. Most use DIVX or XVID encoding.

Next on the list would be .mkv.

H.264 encoding (.mp4) is getting more popular, especially with HD video files. You'll probably be seeing less and less AVI files as time goes on, and more H.264 files, on the net. but it might take a few years yet, before H.264 starts being more common (if ever). Of course, a new, better, format/encoding will eventually replace it, of course.

But yes, for compatability, .AVI with DIVX encoding, or .mp4 files are the most compatible with various devices. Especially when thinking of Sony products (the PS3/PSP namely).

Keep in mind that .mkv is a packaging type, not a video encoding type.

MP4 is a container, not a codec. most commonly uses H.264 for the codec. the video will turn out really good, not be too big and will be compatible with about anything where as Divx doesnt play nice with many things.

Posting in concurrence of .MKV and .MP4 using H.264 codec. DivX was alright around the Tribes 2 era. What makes it especially great is being able to interchange the audio with languages of your choice using a simple tool, as it is, as said, a package, which makes swapping the contents of said package simple.

H.264 is getting popular Nowadays. Other than that the most commonly used video format is AVI

Hi this is tom and i hope Quicktime is the best format for the video files.
Quicktime 7 implementation gives AVC a bad name. It's horrid. Try x264 or nerodigital instead. If you are in a Mac Platform you can try with latest VLC too.........
