Nasty Extras (Spoilers)

This is a thread dedicated to those who ran through the game on Easy mode first, then upgraded to Normal mode during the next game through. What extras did you notice the second time through? I've noticed this trend growing with survival horror games lately. They'll throw a bunch of scary stuff at you on Easy, then when you're swaggering through Normal all la-tee-da and happy with yourself because you think you know what's going to happen next, they throw EXTRA crap at you that they saved up just to keep you on your toes.

For example, the first time I went through the Sewers, everything was fine. Now that I'm on my second game, some of the walls that didn't do anything before have started BLEEDING on me! Nooooooooooooooo!!!! It's a clever ploy though, to keep the scares coming even on repeat play.

re: Nasty Extras (Spoilers)

Yeah, you remember that empty room with the gold wallpaper in the office building I mentioned a while back? Yep, there was an insane cancer in it. And there wasn't an enormous amount of room for the two of us! I katana'd him if I remember rightly.

That wall bleeding, which starts as you descend into the sewers after leaving the train, really freaked me out too! Have you noticed that there's not more blood on the lower walls, what it is is all the walls get gradually bloodier (in front and behind you) as you get further down, and they get less bloody as you come up.

Yes, I remember when I went through it the second time I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me:
"- Uh? Are the walls gettting... more and more red or is it just me?"

But it´s even worst if you´ve played in Hard Mode; going through that transition alone is enough to leave Heather in critical condition and in desperate need of a health drink.

re: Nasty Extras (Spoilers)

I'm glad you guys/gals agree with me!!! At first I thought that it was just getting darker and that my eyes too, were playing nasty tricks on me. I remember thinking to myself, "Wait a minute, this didn't happen the last time I was down here. What's Konami trying to pull?!" Plus, some of the hallways down there were turning as dark as those impossible-to-see-where-the-hell-you're-going hallways in the alternate hospital and alternate chapel. I KNEW there were rooms I needed to get into down there, but I was having trouble seeing them because of the blinding red.

Also, has anybody else in here played Fatal Frame? Because that's where I first started noticing the "Nasty Extras" trend. The first time you go through the entrance lobby to the house, everything's fine and dandy. The second time through I have candles flaring up in my face that didn't do anything before, and extra crap falling off of tables and shelves. Creepy, creepy stuff. But that's why I love it!

re: Nasty Extras (Spoilers)

this one's nasty too.. if you go to the bakery, where you found the tongs, there's a flyer by the counter (READ IT). I dunno what it says exactly but it's about them selling BREAD.. after completing the game and going through it again, you'll see that BREAD <is it BREAD??? my memory sucks... maybe it's FRESH... anyway...> was changed into DEAD... i really thought that it was creepy...

I thought so too, but I wasn't completely sure. I couldn't remember if that had changed because the first time I went through I could have sworn there was nothing weird about that flyer. Then lo and behold, they cross out a letter and turn it into "Dead"! I wouldn't have even noticed were it not for the fact that I had to pick up the Flame Thrower in that spot for my Extra New Game.

re: Nasty Extras (Spoilers)

It's "Freshly Toasted Bread", and you're left wondering if the makers have lost their minds. What the hell was that for?? Then the second time where it's the location for the flamethrower, it says "Freshly Toasted Dead" and you laugh your head off.

SZ, yep, I got the candle in the face in Fatal Frame (Project Zero, I call it). I'm going to go through that on Nightmare mode, which from the description I thought was impossible, then I discovered by accident that you keep all the film and health you picked up the first time. Wish Silent Hill 3 did that - I was playing through on Normal, trying to get all the way to the train without saving, and I was killed by a closer!

re: Nasty Extras (Spoilers)

OMG! I just found something else I overlooked before. Remember the Occult Magazine you read in the subway about "Suicide Spots?" Well I just found a four-month old newspaper I didn't notice before sitting on top of a phone cubicle (not the ones on the pillars, but the booths on the wall) on the first floor area that writes about a man in a black coat who may have killed himself on one of the train platforms. Now, I've discovered that this is the first step in opening up a secret. First, you read the newspaper, then you read the occult magazine. Once you've done both of these, you go downstairs from the Occult Magazine's location and get an extra cut-scene where an unknown person pushes Heather onto the tracks!!! Freaky! Did anyone else get this before? Because I completely missed the newspaper my first time around.

LOL

Yeah, I´d done this the first time through; really upset me because I had to go all the way back to the last saved game at the mall to restart it.

re: Nasty Extras (Spoilers)

How come you had to restart your game? Did you not climb up onto the platform quickly enough and get run over by the train during that part? That would suck!

re: Nasty Extras (Spoilers)

Wow, SZ, you did a great job of moderating this forum and avoiding spoilers! The suicide guy was mentioned a lot by us Europeans who got to play the game earlier. It's not so much an Extra, as it can be done on the first time through. And on Easy mode.

Unfortunately, the Subway was what got me my Beginner mode. I just kept wandering off the platforms in various places, just to see what happened - testing it out, so to speak. Then before I knew it I got told that I was obviously such an inept player I needed a "Beginner" mode! But I hadn't been killed by one monster!! Damn, now the system data has me down as a wuss. (It's amazing how you can feel these things about what is basically a memory chip.)

Has anyone here done Extreme mode yet? I was reading an FAQ about it, and apparently it's like a whole other game.
