Reviewing old games you have'nt played in ages.
|
Do any of you do this? I don't. In fact if I don't review a game within a week of finishing it then I just won't review it. It's just my own way of doing things. I like to write a review while the game is still fresh in my mind otherwise the review will be sloppy and it'll be missing stuff that I just forgot about. Well at least that's how I am now. When I first started reviewing I was reviewing games that I literally haven't played in years.
I had every intention to write a review for Saints Row 3 but I kept putting it off and now I feel it's too late to review it. I just wouldn't be able to recall all the stuff I wanted to originally talk about had I reviewed it as soon as I finished the game.
So yeah, I only reviews games that I finished within the last week.

Depends on how well I feel I remember the game. A couple of the reviews I've done were for games I hadn't played for quite a while but recalled the experience well enough to translate into a review.
Did I miss stuff? Maybe, but not enough to make me consider ditching the review entirely. As far as I was concerned my opinion still held more than enough weight to be valid.

If I review a game I haven't actually played in a while, sometimes I go to Youtube and find some gameplay videos. Generally I then remember my opinions of the gameplay and whatnot.
I generally don't forget plots to games unless they were that bad, so that's not an issue normally.
Most of my reviews were of games I hadn't played in a little while, so I had time to form an opinion that was less based on the rush of actually playing the game and more objective.

I find it very hard to review a game I haven't played in ages. It's a bit unfair to the game if I only highlight what I remember from years before. That's why I only have 1 PS2 review.

My thoughts exactly. I just hate the thought of not doing it justice. Also, when remembering a game the good stuff stands out in your mind. You very rarely remember all the bad stuff about the game. It's just the way the human mind works. The good memories pushes the bad memories aside and so you might end up giving it a higher score than what it deserves.

You're totally right. For example, I adored Timesplitters 2; if I wrote a review on that now I'd give it 5 stars and wouldn't mention any of its disadvantages. I'd actually love if I still had a PS2 just to revisit games like that.

Depends on how poor I am. I will usually play it again before reviewing it. For example, I played SCII for the first time in a long time before I wrote the review for it. I've written reviews after not playing a game for a while though.

Some games, I have a very good memory of - in fact, sometimes, it can take a long while for it to set in and allow me a decent opinion.
Tends to happen more with retro games because most modern games (N64 and beyond) tend to be pretty forgettable.
