Talk about making the extra effort! ArenaNet announced this morning that they are developing a Guild Wars 2 client for Apple's OS X, and that a beta version of the client is available now. The Mac client will connect to the same servers that PC clients do, and won't lack any of the features that players have come to expect. While performance and system requirements aren't finalized, ArenaNet feels confident in the product and is excited to bring Mac gamers into the Guild Wars 2 fold.
ArenaNet's "Guild Wars 2 team" released the following statement on why they've build the client, and are so excited to finally have it released:
"Bringing Guild Wars 2 to the Mac is huge for us, because it introduces the game to an entire group of players who are often ignored by game developers. The ability to play together with your friends is one of the underlying principles of Guild Wars 2, and providing a Mac client means that friends and guildmates can play together regardless of what operating system they favor."
Of course, after that ArenaNet makes clear that they have a lot of Mac users on staff, including their president Mike O'Brien. We're on to you, Mike O'Brien, sitting on your pearl white Macintosh throne, decreeing that Guild Wars 2 must be on Mac or you'll release another Elder Dragon. Keepin' my eye on you.
Be excited! A new population of gamers will be coming to Guild Wars 2, which is now available on both PC and Mac. It's too bad ArenaNet hadn't announced this prior to release, because I know at least one friend installed Windows on his Mac just so he could play Guild Wars 2. I'd say he'd be angry, but he'll just gawk at his mesmer for a while and everything will be 'k.
