Guild Wars 2 may not have launched as smoothly as ArenaNet may have liked, but you can't stop a great game from selling like hotcakes. ArenaNet and publisher NCsoft revealed today that the new MMO has already surpassed two million in units sold since its August 28 release.
Previously, due to a number of annoying bugs and longer-than-expected maintenance on certain in-game features, ArenaNet temporarily discontinued sales from its own site and other first party avenues. Shortly after sales reopened, Guild Wars 2 lunged past the two-mil milestone.
ArenaNet president and co-founder Mike O'Brien is, of course, floored by the game's success:
"Reactions from around the world justified the time and care we put into developing Guild Wars 2 and making it into the game it is today. And this is only the beginning. We're continually fine-tuning the game to deliver the polished experience that our players expect, and we’re already working on new adventures and experiences to introduce into this truly dynamic online world."
Early access was a good indication of the game's incredible popularity. During the Headstart weekend prior to launch, Guild Wars 2 saw a record of 400,000 concurrent players, with well over a million in pre-purchases.
