Guild Wars 2 officially launches today, but many gamers have already been playing over the weekend. Publisher NCsoft has revealed a few numbers for its Headstart Access, and they're expectedly staggering.
Over one million prospective Guild Wars 2 players pre-purchased the game, granting them automatic Headstart Access, which began Friday evening, three hours ahead of schedule. And over that period, the concurrent player count went as high as 400,000. Color us impressed.
The publisher is calling the figure "record-breaking" as far as pre-launch events go. For a little perspective, keep in mind that World of Warcraft recorded 800,000 simultaneous users post-launch, though it's difficult to compare either to the free-to-play stuff in Asia (particularly China). Still, we're sure ArenaNet is plenty pleased with the reception, despite ongoing complaints about the Trading Post.
Folks who pre-ordered the game got their early access yesterday, giving them a one-day headstart.
