Elite Xtreme Combat (EliteXC)

One of the smaller but growing in popularity MMA promotions, EliteXC is a growing alternative to UFC/WEC. They have a TV contract with the cable network Showtime and also stream their unaired prelim fights for free at ProElite.com (free registration is required) and also feature fighters currently or formerly from UFC, most notably Nick Diaz. They also have a notable announce team, consisting of former PRIDE commentators Mauro Ranallo & Stephen Quadros and...ahem...Bill Goldberg. Yes, Iceberg. Tuesday will mark their first anniversary, as they ran their first event on November 13, 2006. They also feature slightly different weight classes:
Lightweight: 151-160
Welterweight 161-170 (no Champion as of 11/10/07)
Middleweight: 171-185 (Current Champion as of 11/10/07: Robbie Lawler)
Reportedly more may be on the way.

They ran their most recent show last night, here are the results:
Jae Suk Lim beat Anthony Pineda by submission (rear anked choke) at 2:42 of round 1.
Brett Rogers beat Ralph Kelly by submission (strikes) at 1:43 of round 1.
Matt Lucas beat Jon Kirk by unanimous decision, 3 30-27s.
Yves Edwards beat Nick Gonzalez by submission (rear naked choke) at 3:05 of round 1.
Geoff Bumstead beat Robert Ruiz by submission (rear naked choke) at 1:30 of round 1.
Antonio Silva beat Jonathan Wiezorek by submission (rear naked choke) at 3:12 of round 1.
Kyle Noke beat Dr. Seth Klein beak by TKO (cut) at 4:22 of round 2.
Jake Shields beat Mike Pyle by submission (rear naked choke) at 3:39 of round 1. This was to have been for the EXC Welterweight Title but Pyle declined the title shot since he reportedly is leaving EXC now.
Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson beat Bo Cantrell by TKO (strikes) in 19 seconds.
K.J. Noons beat EXC Lightweight Champion Nick Diaz by TKO (doctor's stoppage-cut) after round 1 to become the new EXC Lightweight Champion. Not surprisingly, Diaz was en fuego, left without congratulating his opponent and throwing out a few Stone Cold Salutes. Probably smoking more marijuana too.

Nick Diaz is a cry baby. The man gets pissed after every loss, no matter how badly he got beat.

Isn't Nick Diaz the dude that looks like Mark Briscoe? I think so. Yeah that dude pissed me off. I was angry that he got that far in the last TUF.

That's Nate (Nathan) Diaz, Nick's younger brother, who won the whole thing because of Manny Gamburyan's injury in the finale. Here's a decent picture of Nick from Sherdog:

The only reason I don't talk so much smack about Nick is because he's a bit of a hometown favorite of mine and ebcause if he ever finds out I'm in town after I say such stuff (I think he lives across from my uncle in Stockton), he'll kill me (haha). He just seems to have trouble keeping his emotions in check and staying out of trouble drug-wise.

Ah right. I always get Nate/Nick confused. I hate Nate regardless though.

re: Elite Xtreme Combat (EliteXC)

Oh shit, I just saw an add on Tv that announced the upcoming Kimbo Slice vs Tank Abbott match for THIS Saturday, the 16th. I didn't even know this was called back on after the last time.

Kimbo Slice is a bad ass street fighter. Seen tons of his vids online. Tank Abbott, unfortunately, ever since he jobbed to *bleep*ing David Arquette, the WCW Champion no less, I never could look at the man the same again. He ruined his career by going into Professional Wrestling. Can't wait for this one; hope Kimbo knocks Tanks' *bleep*ing head off.

Edit: Son of a bitch. It's on Showtime. I DON'T HAVE SHOWTIME.

re: Elite Xtreme Combat (EliteXC)

EliteXC: Street Certified Results:
Prelims (aired live on ProElite.com):
Moyses Gabin beat Jirka Hlavaty by TKO (doctor stoppage-cut) at 2:32 of round 1.
Lorenzo Borgameo beat Mike Bernhard by tapout (triangle choke) at 4:11 of round 2.
Eric Bradley beat Mikey Gomez by unanimous decision, 3 30-27s.
Dave Herman beat Mario Rinaldi by TKO (strikes) at 33 seconds of round 3.
Yosmany Cabezas beat Jon Kirk by submission (rear naked choke) at 58 seconds of round 2.
Rafael Feijao beat John Doyle by TKO (strikes) at 2:17 of round 1. Feijao was cornered by UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Dana isn't gonna like that, haha.

TV (10 PM live on Showtime):
Brett Rogers beat James Thompson by KO at 2:44 of round 1.
Yves Edwards beat Edson Berto by KO at 4:56 of round 1.
Scott Smith beat Kyle Noke by KO at 7 seconds of round 2.
Antonio Silva beat Ricco Rodriguez by split decision, 29-28 Rodriguez, 30-27 Silva, 29-28 Silva.
Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson beat David "Tank" Abbott by KO in 43 seconds. Pre-fight scene said to be ugly in the making, security seems to be letting hundreds, if not thousands of fans into the lower bowl seating area. Pretty much all Kimbo, Tank said to be gassing after just 20 seconds. Probably would've ended sooner had it not been stopped briefly for strikes to back of head by Kimbo. Tank reportedly did the Ric Flair face-first flop when he went down for the KO.

Go to www.sho.com and you can now reportedly see the main event replayed in ref camera view.

Tank is washed up. Put Kimbo in the UFC against real competition. He would do pretty good but you get him on the ground he would be toast

And I don't get why everyone is saying he has never been beaten. A guy beat him up pretty soundly in a street fight. The video is on YouTube

EDIT: Here is the video

re: Elite Xtreme Combat (EliteXC)

I saw the Kimbo fight and Tank definitely did the Flair flop at the end of it Lots of stoppages in the fight though, one for Kimbo intentionally hitting Abbott in the back of the head (no point taken away though), and the second one I'm not sure what happened but I think Kimbo's mouthpiece came out, but he just picked it up and threw it out of the cage, then shoved the ref's arm away from him wanting to get back to the fight. Tank looked horrendous.

That's the link to the Kimbo-Tank "ref camera" version of the fight. I just watched it, not surprisingly the video quality is horrendous and you don't see much, but it clearly was a quick street fight.

Kimbo lost against Sean Gannon before, a doughy white guy lol. But I still like him. He wouldn't do good in UFC since everyone would just take him down, but keep booking him in slugfests and I'll watch. He said he wanted to fight Mike Tyson that would be cool

re: Elite Xtreme Combat (EliteXC)

Surprised no one's mentioning how Kimbo tried to curb stomp Tank when he was down. You can see it in the vid SS provided.

I was disappointed with the fight. Tank wasn't even a challenge; he was so out of it and Kimbo is an amateur MMA fighter as it is so it's not saying much of a win. I'd still love to see him in UFC only to be completely dominated. Hell, I'd put money on Tim "The BOREmaniac" Sylvia to get a win over Kimbo.

Eh, Sylvia is a good fighter, he's just irritating to watch. Now Kimbo vs. Lesnar, that would be fun times

re: Elite Xtreme Combat (EliteXC)

He's just boring. He should change his last name to Sawvia, as in sawing logs and putting us all to sleep. Or however it goes.

Post-event news/notes:
They claimed a sellout of 6817 paid for a live gate of at least $500K.

Fighter Of The Night, as voted on by EXC Staffers, was Kimbo, just beating out Edwards.

Kimbo's next fight isn't set yet but likely to be in April or May.

They'll definitely return to Florida in the near future.

Antonio Silva fought with a torn MCL, suffered 2 weeks ago.

As noted before, UFC Champions Anderson Silva and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira were in Rafael Feijao's corner.

Next event is the joint EXC/Strikeforce event on 3/29, headlined by Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le for the Strikeforce Middleweight Title and Jake Shields vs. Drew Fickett for the EXC Welterweight Title. Gina Carano may fight on this event pending her American Gladiators commitments.
