A tweet coming from the official Okami Twitter account today is teasing the announcement of something related to Okami next week. The poor commercial success of Okami led to the closure of Clover Studio back in 2007 and the DS sequel Okamiden performed well, it was and wasn't what many folk were expecting. Could Capcom have relicensed the franchise in the hopes of recreating the original game's magic?
Here's an embed of the official tweet, followed by a loose translation from All Games Beta:
こんにちは！最近ちょっとご無沙汰している大神ニュースですが、GW明けくらいには新しいお知らせをドカン！と投下できる気がしていますので、楽しみにお待ちくださいね。現在、着々と準備中。運営壱も、とってもワクワクしています…！#OKAMI— 大神 絶景版（公式） (@OKAMI_CAP) April 18, 2013
"Hello, this is Okami news. Sorry I’ve been kind of out of touch lately, but I have the feeling we’ll be able to drop a fresh announcement like WHAM! around the beginning of Golden Week, so please look forward to it. Right now we’re on track with preparations."
Of course, this could all be completely unrelated to an actual game release. Considering this teaser is coming over Twitter rather than through some more official form, we could be looking at... I don't know, the announcement of new merchandise in the Capcom store. A special fan event, or something else similarly small in scale.
Either way, I'll be waiting and watching with eyes wide open, as Okami was one of my favorite games from the past generation. A new 3DS title, or perhaps a full console release? Ah, it's like floating away on a cloud just thinking about it. Stay tuned.
